Arian Foster
News
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien has spoken highly of Arian Foster all offseason long, but on Tuesday he discussed Foster's receiving skills with the media and made it clear he's not afraid to let the running back handle that on top of everything else he'll be asked to do

"In the past, we've had guys like Kevin Faulk, Danny Woodhead in this offense that have filled those types of roles," said O’Brien per Comcast Sportsnet, "and now it looks like definitely Arian will be able to do that and more.

"What the most important thing to do is to make sure that you look at the player's skill set and figure out how they fit your system, or our system, and so what we do is when we have a back that is a three-down back as Arian is, a guy that can play on first, second and third down, then you're finding ways to incorporate him into the passing game and the running game and it really works out well for your offense."

Andre Johnson
News
The Jets could use a receiver to pair with Eric Decker, but Metro New York reports the team is not pursuing disgruntled Texans wideout Andre Johnson.

Acquiring Johnson "is not something we are actively pursuing," a team executive told Metro New York, adding “he isn’t a fit for where we are heading." The executive said Johnson is a special player, but he'd hurt the team's cap flexibility.

So far, Houston has not shown a willingness to trade Johnson, the report said.

Ryan Fitzpatrick
News
Texans coach Bill O'Brien named Ryan Fitzpatrick the starting quarterback, the official team website reports Tuesday.

Fitzpatrick was expected to battle rookie Tom Savage for the job in training camp, but O'Brien has apparently seen enough to trust Fitzpatrick with the role now.

"He's a guy that earned the job," O'Brien said.

Savage will now compete with Case Keenum and T.J. Yates for the No. 2 job. O'Brien said "I don't know" when asked if he will carry two or three quarterbacks on the roster this season.

Jawanza Starling
News
In addition to quarterback Case Keenum, who was ruled out earlier in the week with a torn ligament in his thumb, and tight end Garrett Graham, who is out again with a hamstring injury, the Texans' list of inactives for Week 16 against the Broncos includes wide receiver DeVier Posey (ankle), defensive back Jawanza Starling, offensive lineman Alex Kupper, offensive lineman Andrew Gardner and offensive lineman Cody White. Starling, Kupper, Gardner and White are all healthy scratches.
Louis Nix
News
With the No. 83 pick in the NFL Draft, the Texans selected defensive tackle Louis Nix from Notre Dame. He is the second defensive lineman the Texans drafted so far with Jadeveon Clowney at No. 1 overall.

Nix started 30 games at nose tackle for Notre Dame in the Irish's 3-4 defense. He should be a contributor right away for the Texans playing between Clowney and J.J. Watt.

Case Keenum
News
The Texans' quarterbacks -- all four of them between Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tom Savage, T.J. Yates and Case Keenum -- continue to be a work in progress, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Coach Bill O'Brien said that Fitzpatrick, the expected Week 1 starter, had a "decent offseason" and has done a good job of picking a new offense. But O'Brien said the quarterback competition is wide open.

"T.J. and Case ... they've also done a good job," O'Brien said. "Savage is a rookie. He's a little bit behind. But you can see he's got some tools. He can throw the football and he works extremely hard."

The backup position is expected to come down to Keenum and Yates. But O'Brien didn't rule out Savage for the spot.

"I don't know. We'll see. We'll let it play out a little bit," O'Brien said.

Jadeveon Clowney
News
Texans rookie linebacker Jadeveon Clowney said Thursday he played his final year at South Carolina while dealing with the same sports hernia injury he had surgery on recently, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Bus Cook, Clowney's agent, said Clowney almost skipped his pro day.

"He thought about not participating in his pro day but went ahead anyway, and what a performance," Cook said.

Clowney had surgery on his groin earlier this month, but Texans coach Bill O'Brien expects him back in time for training camp.

"It was the best thing for J.D. and the best thing for our team and the best thing for our organization," O'Brien said. "He'll be ready to go for training camp. That's about all I'll say about that."

Playing over 13 games, including a five-week stint as the starter in 2011, the Georgia native has 1,100 passing yards and three touchdowns with a rush score and six interceptions and four fumbles lost.
