Ryan Mallett
News
Bill O'Brien expressed disdain for a question Thursday night inferring that the Texans are still seeking their franchise quarterback.

"You know, 'until we find our quarterback' like I just want to make sure that just personally I'm clear on that," he said via ESPN. "We feel really good about our quarterback position. To be honest with you, I'm a little tired of hearing that."

The thought of the Texans addressing the situation in the first round seems a bit far-fetched when considering that premier talents Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota were gone after two picks and no other top candidates were thought of that highly.

Houston is set to wage a competition between Ryan Mallett and free agent signing Brian Hoyer for the starting job. O'Brien is not complaining about that.

"These guys are in here competing," he said. "They're learning. They're doing a good job so far in the offseason workouts. We can't wait to get out there and start working with them."

DeAndre Hopkins
News
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien is very encouraged by the performance of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins last season, per ESPN. O'Brien went as far as to say that Hopkins can be one of the best.

"He had a really productive year," Texans coach Bill O'Brien said. "The thing that we really like about Hop and that we want him to continue to do is his work ethic. He’s a hungry player. He works every single day. He came into the spring a year ago and he was learning the offense and thinking out there, then all of a sudden you could see all the work he put in and learning, he just took off."

Due to the departure of wide receiver Andre Johnson, the progression of Hopkins will be under the microscope as he is now the focal point of the passing offense.

"We just want to see him continue and progress," O'Brien said. "We think he can be one of the best, we think he is one of the best. We have a lot of confidence in him and we’re looking forward to seeing him progress when the offseason program starts."

I’m just happy to get there and get things going.”

After spending his first four seasons with the Jaguars, Shorts is excited about the Texans' offense and the direction the team is headed in going into 2015.

“It feels good,” Shorts III said of joining the Texans. “This organization is definitely a franchise that’s very consistent with winning the last some-odd years. I think it was a great year last year being Bill O’Brien’s first year coming in going 9-7 and right in the playoff hunt and they’re just a franchise going in the right direction.”

The 27-year-old has racked up 176 receptions for 2,343 yards and 12 touchdowns in his career.

In a public appearance on Saturday, Cushing told the Houston Chronicle's John McClain that he's had surgery on his broken right wrist as well as arthroscopic procedures on his left knee and left ankle.

"It’s not uncommon for stuff like that to happen," he said of the two arthroscopic surgeries. "It’s just little things here and there, the residual effects of two major surgeries and injuries, the wear and tear of playing throughout the season. There were still some things bothering me a little bit. Just went in there and had real good success in both areas."

Cushing has a cast on his wrist. “It’s coming along real well,” he said. “I’m going to start working out a little bit. From a pain standpoint, there’s really nothing going on there. I’m real happy about that. I’m real happy to get the cast off and start doing some physical therapy on it, and I don’t have to worry about it anymore."

News
Running back Alfred Blue was a pleasant surprise for the Texans last year, and he is participating in a grueling offseason workout regimen in order to prove to the team that he is capable of handling more of the workload, per the Houston Chronicle

Blue has been working out with Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in Houston, hoping to increase his speed and durability. Last year, Blue rushed for 528 yards and two touchdowns, starting in three games. This season, despite Arian Foster's role as the No. 1 back, Blue wants to become a bigger contributor.

"They tell you every year that nobody's set, nobody's safe," Blue said. "You've got to come in every year like you just got drafted or like you're an undrafted free agent trying to make the team."

Brian Hoyer

Charles James
News
The Texans have signed cornerbacks Charles James and Kendall James to the practice squad.

Charles James was undrafted, but did make an appearance with the Giants in 2013. He recorded two tackles and induced a fumble. Kendall James was drafted by the Vikings this year, but did not make the 53-man roster.

Jaelen Strong
News
Texans wide receiver Jaelen Strong was pegged as a potential first-round pick entering the 2015 NFL draft.

However, he had to wait quite a while in the green room to hear his name called. In the third round, the Texans took Strong, a productive wideout at Arizona State. Strong, surprised at the fall in the draft, picked a jersey number to remind himself of what happened to him.

Strong was the 11th receiver selected this past weekend. Therefore, 11 is the jersey number Strong will wear this season, to remind himself that 10 other receivers were selected ahead of him.

"Number 11 to remind me that 10 receivers were taken before me in the Draft," Strong wrote on his Instagram page. "So much hunger in my heart. Thanks Houston!"

Chris Myers
News
Free-agent offensive lineman Chris Myers is visiting the Seahawks Monday, ESPN reports.

Myers graded out positively in 2014, ranking 16th out of 41 centers, per Pro Football Focus. He has started every game in each of the last seven seasons for the Texans and could be an option to fill the team's hole at center after Max Unger was traded to New Orleans earlier in March.

Randy Bullock
News
With the Texans starting their third quarterback of the season, the team relied heavily on kicker Randy Bullock during the Texans’ 25-13 win over the Ravens Week 16.

Bullock set a franchise record by converting all six of his field goal attempts. Bullock converted from 35, 25, 30, 20, 39 and 33 yards. He also made his lone extra point attempt. Before converting all six field goals, Bullock had never made more than three field goals in any game during his career.

The Texans host the Jaguars Week 17.

Louis Nix
News
Texans coach Bill O'Brien delivered a message to defensive tackle Louis Nix through the media at the NFL Owners Meetings on Tuesday.

After praising rookies Jadeveon Clowney and Xavier Su'a-Filo for the work ethic they've shown while rehabbing from injuries, O'Brien was asked about Nix's offseason rehab work.

"I have not seen Louis Nix," O'Brien said, per ESPN. "I don't know. He’s working out somewhere in Florida I guess. Haven’t seen him."

O'Brien added a caveat, saying, "That’s their prerogative, so don’t read anything into that. When they show back up here for the offseason program, especially the younger players, the younger players need to be ready to roll. So hopefully he’s ready to go."

When asked what changes he'd like to see in Nix, O'Brien landed another shot. ""I would say the ability to make it through a practice," O'Brien said. "That would be the biggest thing I need to see."

"I've been encouraged and impressed," Smith said. "He's doing well. We expect him to be a major contributor this year."

Clowney had his rookie season cut short last year when he required knee surgery. He previously said the rehab was going well and he thinks he can return to being the same player as before the injury.

Vince Wilfork
News
After spending 11 seasons with the Patriots, Texans defensive tackle Vince Wilfork is ready to put pressure on his new teammates and coaches to raise their performance levels, according to the team's official website.

"You have to put pressure on each individual, and that’s what I’m going to do," Wilfork said. "I’m going to put pressure on everybody. Not just myself. Not just the older guys. Not just J.J. (Watt). The quarterback. The coaches. No. It’s everybody."

"I’m not a rah-rah guy," Wilfork said. "And that’s one of the things that they’ll get to know quick. I love to have fun. I have the passion. I love the game. But if I need to say something, I will say something."

Entering his 12th season, the five-time All-Pro selection has recorded 516 total tackles, 16 sacks, 25 passes defensed, three interceptions and four forced fumbles.

Kevin Johnson
News
Texans top draft pick Kevin Johnson proclaimed himself the best cornerback in the ACC when he played for Wake Forest. Now that he is about to embark on his NFL career, he will have to continue backing up his confidence at a higher level.

Former Demon Deacons coach Jim Grobe, who coached Johnson, expresses little doubt that he will.

"Some corners are always hoping you'll throw it to the other side of the field, and there's some guys that are hoping you'll throw it their way and that's Kevin Johnson," Grobe told ESPN. "It's not a cockiness, it's not an ego thing. It's just confidence that not only can he take care of the deep ball but the underneath stuff.

"...I think most kids would tell you that's the way they are; in reality I think Kevin Johnson's just one of those guys that has the ability to break up and take care of the underneath stuff but has the confidence to flip his hips and play the deep ball."

Rahim Moore
News
Former Broncos safety Rahim Moore has agreed to terms with the Texans, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Moore was a second-round selection out of UCLA by the Broncos in the 2011 NFL draft. In his four seasons with Denver, Moore totaled 196 tackles and eight interceptions. Four of those interceptions came this past season.

However, Moore will long be linked with allowing Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco pass to go over his head and into the arms of receiver Jacoby Jones for a late 70-yard touchdown in a divisional round playoff game following the 2012 regular season. The Ravens won that game in double overtime as a result.
