The Texans added some more size to their line with the first pick in the sixth round, selecting defensive lineman Jeoffrey Pagan out of the University of Alabama 177th overall.

Pagan is a 6-foot-4, 310-pound lineman who played three seasons at Alabama, racking up 60 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks.

Keenum was competing with quarterback Thad Lewis for the starting role after quarterbacks Ryan Mallett and Ryan Fitzpatrick were lost for the season and Tom Savage was ruled out with a knee injury.

A torn pectoral muscle ended Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett's season early in 2014, shortly after he assumed the starting role. 

A few months into recovery, Mallett still isn't 100 percent, he said at a charity event on Wednesday, according to the Houston Chronicle.  

"I'm getting close," Mallett said. "There's no magic potion. I'm trying to get better every day. We'll see how it goes."

The Texans have been talked about as a team that needs to upgrade at the quarterback position this offseason. However, coach Bill O'Brien wants Mallett back in the fold as an option to start in 2015. Mallett is going to hit free agency when the new league year begins if he is not re-signed by Houston before then.

Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins revealed he recently had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist, reports CBS Houston.

Hopkins was listed on the Week 17 injury report with a wrist injury. The surgery placed a pin and rod into his wrist. Hopkins had to wear a cast, which was removed Saturday. He said the procedure was minor and he's a couple of weeks away from resuming normal activities.

The Texans got a bunch of offensive contributions in their Week 13 blowout of Tennessee. Wideout Keshawn Martin made a 32-yard catch, tight end Ryan Griffin caught a wide-open swing pass for an 8-yard touchdown and defensive end J.J. Watt hauled in a 1-yard touchdown -- his fifth score this season.

Running back Jonathan Grimes gained 13 yards on five carries, and running back Alfred Blue added 6 yards on seven carries.

They'll all visit the Jaguars in Week 14.

The Texans have signed wide receiver Jace Davis to their practice squad. The rookie had been with Baltimore and has yet to play a game in 2014.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien told reporters that running back Arian Foster "has a lot of football left in him" and that team will try to "communicate with him and try to manage his workload" moving forward, per the Houston Chronicle.

O'Brien also noted that running back is a position where they could add some depth in order to compliment their top back.

Foster, 28, has played 21 games in the previous two seasons, and has not played 16 games in a season since 2012 due to an assortment of injuries. In 13 games, Foster took 260 carries for 1,246 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 38 passes for 327 yards and five scores in 2014.

Kareem Jackson

Looking to upgrade at cornerback, the Dolphins are interested in bringing on Brandon Flowers or Kareem Jackson during free agency, according to a report from the Miami Herald

The Dolphins don't appear sold on cornerback Cortland Finnegan for future seasons with the organization discussing alternative options. 

In 2014, Flowers totaled 52 tackles and three interceptions after signing a one-year deal with the Chargers. Jackson recorded 57 tackles and three interceptions in his fifth season for the Texans.

Every player listed as "probable" on the Texans injury report is active Thursday against the Colts. 

Studs like J.J. Watt, Arian Foster and Brian Cushing will play. Alfred Blue and Ryan Fitzpatrick were also cleared. 

The club will also have A.J. Bouye, Akeem Dent, Tim Jamison, Damaris Johnson, Ben Jones, Johnathan Joseph, Shane Lechler, Derek Newton, Ryan Pickett, Eddie Pleasant, D.J. Swearinger and Jeff Tarpinian available for the contest. All 12 players were listed as probable entering the game. 

Andre Johnson
News
Andre Johnson's agent, Kennard McGuire, told Pro Football Talk he asked the Texans to cut the disgruntled wideout, rather than try to trade him. Johnson said he was told by coach Bill O'Brien last week that the team envisioned him in a reduced role in 2015.

Johnson, 33, has two years and $21.5 million left on his contract. He has spent his entire 12-year career with Houston, racking up 1,012 catches for 13,597 yards and 64 touchdowns.

Assuming he is released, Johnson is expected to try to latch on with a Super Bowl contender. He's appeared in four playoff games without reaching a Super Bowl.

The Texans signed linebacker Ricky Sapp and waived linebacker Jason Ankrah, reports CSNHouston.com. Houston also released wideout Travis Labhart from the practice squad and filled his spot with safety Josh Aubrey.

The Texans listed a lengthy injury report for Week 8 against the Titans.

Texans LB Brian Cushing has had three surgeries since the end of the season. 

In a public appearance on Saturday, Cushing told the Houston Chronicle's John McClain that he's had surgery on his broken right wrist as well as arthroscopic procedures on his left knee and left ankle. 

"It’s not uncommon for stuff like that to happen," he said of the two arthroscopic surgeries. "It’s just little things here and there, the residual effects of two major surgeries and injuries, the wear and tear of playing throughout the season. There were still some things bothering me a little bit. Just went in there and had real good success in both areas."

Cushing has a cast on his wrist. “It’s coming along real well,” he said. “I’m going to start working out a little bit. From a pain standpoint, there’s really nothing going on there. I’m real happy about that. I’m real happy to get the cast off and start doing some physical therapy on it, and I don’t have to worry about it anymore."

Grimes pitched in with 54 yards on 13 carries to help his team. Also chipping in was wide receiver Damaris Johnson with five catches for 21 yards, as well as one run for six yards, and fellow wideout Keshawn Martin, who caught one passes for two yards.

Texans running back Alfred Blue totaled just 15 rushing yards on nine carries Sunday against the Jaguars, but he did have a rushing touchdown in a 27-13 win. It was the first rushing touchdown of his career.

With a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter Week 14, Blue became the only player in Texans history to have a rushing touchdown, receiving touchdown and return touchdown in the same season.

The Texans are back in action Week 15 at Indianapolis.

With the Texans starting their third quarterback of the season, the team relied heavily on kicker Randy Bullock during the Texans’ 25-13 win over the Ravens Week 16.

Bullock set a franchise record by converting all six of his field goal attempts. Bullock converted from 35, 25, 30, 20, 39 and 33 yards. He also made his lone extra point attempt. Before converting all six field goals, Bullock had never made more than three field goals in any game during his career.

The Texans host the Jaguars Week 17.

The Saints announced a pair of roster moves on Saturday. The team elevated quarterback Ryan Griffin to the 53-man active roster and placed nose tackle John Jenkins on injured reserve with an abdominal injury.

Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick spoke to reporters for the first time since his suffering a season-ending broken leg injury on Monday, per ESPN. He expressed his desire to remain in Houston with the Texans. Fitzpatrick signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract in the offseason and is expected to remain under contract next season.

"I'd love to be here," Fitzpatrick said. "I think aside from all the football stuff, which we've talked about a lot, just the city of Houston, the family's settling in. ... We think it's a great place to live and raise a family."

Texans quarterback Case Keenum put together an impressive performance to lead his team to a 23-17 victory over the Jaguars in Week 17.

Keenum, who made his second second start of the season, found Arian Foster for a 10-yard score in the opening quarter and an 8-yard touchdown strike to Andre Johnson in the fourth quarter. He compiled 250 passing yards while completing 25 of 35 passes. He added two touchdowns and one interception. He was sacked three times and registered a 98.5 passer rating.

Keenum passed for 435 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions this season.

While Texans GM Randy Smith said earlier in the day that LB Jadeveon Clowney could be ready for training camp, there are other league sources that disagree.

Clowney is recovering from microfracture surgery in his knee. Tony Pauline of TFY Draft Insider cited several sources, both close to the Texans and around the league, as saying that there is "serious concern" over Clowney's knee. 

Opinions ranged from the injury keeping Clowney from having an impact in 2015 to the possiblity that Clowney would never fully recover.

Texans offensive tackle David Quessenberry, diagnosed with lymphoma last June, said he now in remission. 

"I finished radiation two weeks ago," Quessenberry said, via Houston's ABC 13. "I'm officially in remission. I love saying that. I'm in remission and I'm starting into my maintenance phase."

Quessenberry missed the entire 2014 season as he underwent cancer treatment. It's unclear if Quessenberry will be able to participate in any offseason activities with the Texans. He's under contract through the 2016 season. 

Quessenberry was taken in the sixth round of the 2013 draft by the Texans.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named the 2015 NFL MVP at the NFL Honors awards show, held Saturday at the Phoenix Symphony Hall in Phoenix, Ariz.

Rodgers played all 16 regular-season games in 2014 for just the second time in the last five seasons, completing 65.6 percent of his passes while racking up 4,381 passing yards, 38 passing touchdowns and five interceptions. He also added two more touchdowns on the ground while gaining 269 rushing yards on 43 carries.
