Dwight Lowery
News
The Colts have agreed to terms with safety Dwight Lowery, according to the team's official website. Terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.

Lowery, an unrestricted free agent, is entering his eighth season in the NFL, spending time with the Jets, Jaguars and Falcons.

The 29-year-old has recorded 259 total tackles, four sacks, 50 passes defensed, 12 interceptions, seven fumbles recovered and seven forced fumbles in his career.

Joe Reitz
News
The Colts will have a very deep offensive line for OTAs. Currently, the team's roster features 10 players that have started in the NFL, per Colts.com

The Colts will have battle for starting spots at center and on the right side of the line.

Khaled Holmes enters the offseason as the starting center, but he'll be pushed by Jonotthan Harrison, who started 10 games last season.

At right guard, offseason acquisition Todd Herremans has the inside track, but he'll compete with Hugh Thornton, a veteran of 20 NFL starts.

Gosder Cherilus, returning from knee and groin injuries that landed him on injured reserve last season, will start OTAs as the right tackle. Joe Reitz and Ulrick John will compete for the job.

Josh McNary
News
Colts owner Jim Irsay said Friday the arrest of rookie Josh McNary will be a limited distraction to the team this week and expects his team to move forward.

"We'll move forward," Irsay said. "You don't want things to happen, but it was really limited as a distraction to the team. It was dealt with and we'll move forward."

McNary was charged with rape during an incident with a woman in Indianapolis. He entered a not-guilty plea to the accusations.

"Obviously, it's unfortunate," Irsay said. "We'll see what develops."

Arthur Jones
News
The Patriots have run for 480 yards and 10 touchdowns in two recent meetings with the Colts. Indy defensive end Arthur Jones, a 6-3, 337-pounder, wasn't there for either.

Jones, who missed the Week 11 meeting with an ankle injury, is set to play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game at New England.

“(Jones has) made a huge impact,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano told ESPN.com. “It was too bad that we lost him early for that span. Right now he’s feeling really good and he’s very disruptive. He does a great job along with those other guys of forcing double-teams. He commands a double-team. He’s sideline to sideline. He’s a great effort, great energy guy, can give you some push in the middle of the pocket in the pass game. Certainly, it’s good to have Art playing at the level that he’s playing at.”

Without Jones this season, the Colts have given up 4.7 yards per carry. With him, they're yielding 3.7 ypc.

Indy is a 6.5-point underdog Sunday.

D'Joun Smith
News
Some rookies might be willing to bide their time and wait for a chance to prove themselves. Colts new cornerback D'Joun Smith is not one of them.

The third-round pick not only seeks playing time, he considers himself potentially the finest at his position in the NFL.

"Under the right tutelage and the right coach that's going to make my technique even better, I'm probably going to be the best cornerback to play the game," Smith told the team website."

Chuck Pagano declined to tone down the rhetoric. In fact, he welcomes the confidence.

"You don't want a meek kind of milk toast type of guy sitting there," he said. "This sucker was on the edge of his seat in his (Combine) interview. When he came in, it was all business. ... This guy truly believes. At the time we asked him who was the best corner in the draft this year, he said, 'It's me.' He plays with a chip on his shoulder. You have to have it to play that position."

It might take a while for Smith to receive the opportunity to prove his assertion. The Colts start veterans Mike Adams, Dwight Lowery, Vontae Davis and Greg Toler in the secondary. They combine for 30 years of NFL experience. Fellow veteran Darius Butler plays the nickel.

The Colts exercised the 2015 option on left tackle Anthony Castonzo, reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.

Sheldon Price
News
The Colts have declared the following players as inactive for Sunday's AFC Championship Game: Trent Richardson, Griff Whalen, Sheldon Price, Xavier Nixon, Jonotthan Harrison, Bjoern Werner and Zach Kerr.

It is the second straight week Richardson will be inactive.

The Colts are currently 7-point underdogs against the Patriots Sunday.

Vick Ballard
News
Colts running back Vick Ballard said he's continued to stay on track with his recovery from a ruptured Achilles, according to Scout.com

Ballard has missed just about all of the previous two seasons due to injuries. He tore his Achilles before the 2014 season and was unable to play. When training camp comes around, it will mark almost a year from when he sustained the injury.

He said he should be good to go for the start of camp, though.

“Yeah, definitely man,” Ballard said. “Training camp is a long time from now, so truth be told, I probably could participate now, but there’s no rush. Just trying to take my time with it.”

Ballard led the Colts in rushing as a rookie in 2012 with 814 yards and two touchdowns. He only played in one game in 2013 before tearing his ACL in a practice the following week. His Achilles tear came during the 2014 preseason.

Ryan Lankford
News
The Colts have pared down their roster to 53 on Saturday by cutting 17 players and making other moves.

The offensive players on the list are running back David Fluellen, quarterback Chandler Harnish, wide receivers Ryan Lankford and Josh Lenz, center FN Lutz, tight ends Weslye Saunders and Erik Swoope and guard Josh Walker.

The defensive players let go by Indianapolis are ends Gannon Conway and Tyler Hoover, linebackers Rob Ruggiero, Kelvin Sheppard, Phillip Hunt and Andrew Jackson, safety Dewey McDonald, tackles Brandon McKinney and Nnamdi Obukwelu and cornerback Sheldon Price.

The Colts waived/injured tackle Matt Hall and safety Delano Howell and placed linebacker Robert Mathis on the reserve/suspended list.

Jack Mewhort
News
Colts offensive lineman Jack Mewhort received the majority of his snaps on Wednesday at right tackle, according to ESPN.com.

Mewhort was getting these reps due to Gosder Cherilus unavailable. Mewhort entered the league as a left guard.

"Versatility is hard to find," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. "So obviously him playing a bunch of spots and playing everywhere along the line is definitely the more you can do. I think everybody is well aware of that spot and us trying to fill that hole right now. I'm fully confident that we've got the guys in this building right now that we're going to be fine there."

Jerrell Freeman
News
Linebacker Jerrell Freeman has signed his one-year qualifying offer for a reported $2.35 million and will remain with the Colts for a fourth season, the team website has reported. He had been a restricted free agent.

The three-year starter led Indianapolis in tackles in 2012 and 2013 before losing four games to a hamstring injury last year. He still finished with 95 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks.

Sean McGrath
News
After activating tight end Sean McGrath from the reserve/did not report list, the Chiefs waived the tight end Wednesday, reports The Baltimore Sun.

McGrath did not play during the 2014 season. In 2013, he caught 26 passes for 302 yards and two touchdowns.

Greg Toler
News
Barring a setback before the game, Colts cornerbacks Vontae Davis and Greg Toler will play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game at New England, sources told the NFL Network.

Davis has been battling a knee issue, while Toler has been dealing with a groin injury. Both are listed as questionable heading into the game.

The Colts are considered 6 1/2-point underdogs.

Montori Hughes
News
The Colts ruled the following players inactive for Sunday's game at Dallas: wideout T.Y. Hilton (hamstring), defensive back Jalil Brown, defensive back Sheldon Price, guard Hugh Thornton, guard Joe Reitz, guard Gosder Cherilus and nose tackle Montori Hughes.
Dewey McDonald
News

The Colts gave linebacker Jerrell Freeman, a restricted free agent, a qualifying offer, the organization announced on Thursday.

The Colts also placed tenders on exclusive-rights free agents OLB Daniel Adongo, RB Dan Herron and OLB Cam Johnson.

Trent Cole
News
If Colts outside linebacker Trent Cole considered every barrier placed in front of him a stop sign to success, he would have no confidence heading into 2015.

The 32 year old doesn't take a glass-half-empty view of his situation despite those who believe he is too old or that he will not play once Robert Mathis returns from a torn Achilles.

"Look at the tape," Cole told ESPN in response to the critics.

The Colts did not sign him to an $8 million contract to watch games from the sideline. They are seeking to keep as many pass-rushers fresh as possible. And Cole knows his role.

"I'm here to do what they tell me to do," he said. "I'm glad to be with a team that wants me here, wants my services and they feel like I can be an impact to this team. That's a great feeling to have."

Cole certainly didn't play like an old man last season with Philadelphia, which released him greatly because his cap number was scheduled to be $11.6 million. He contributed to 52 tackles and managed 6 1/2 sacks.

Erik Swoope

The Colts waived/injured tackle Matt Hall and safety Delano Howell and placed linebacker Robert Mathis on the reserve/suspended list.

Bjoern Werner
News
Since he was selected in the first-round of the 2013 draft, Colts defensive end Bjoern Werner has been banged up and bruised with various injuries.

For Werner, playing through these ailments has frustrated him through the first two years of his career. He's totaled 68 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks through 28 regular-season games int wo seasons.

"I don't want to sound cocky, but personally, I feel like when I'm out there and healthy, I can be a baller," Werner said, via the Indianapolis Star. "I can do it all. You always have to get that mojo going of course. But I'm telling you, I'm confident I can be an NFL player and a starter in this league."

Chance Casey
News
The Colts have made several minor moves, including the signing of cornerback Chance Casey and guard Will Corbin, per Indysportscentral.com. They have also waived-injured cornerback Josh Mitchell.

Casey has played in four NFL games in two seasons. He totaled six tackles with Oakland a year ago.

Corbin and Mitchell are undrafted rookie free agents. If the latter clears waivers, he will revert to injured reserve.

Matt Hasselbeck
News
It looks like Matt Hasselbeck's NFL career will extend at least one more year.

The Colts reached a one-year deal with backup quarterback Hasselbeck, the team announced on Thursday.

Hasselbeck, 39, will enter his 17th year in the NFL. After starting out as Brett Favre's backup in Green Bay for his first two seasons in 1999 and 2000, he joined the Seahawks via a trade and quickly established himself as a starting-caliber quarterback.

In 16 NFL seasons, Hasselbeck has totaled 34,948 yards, 203 touchdowns and 148 interceptions. He'll be the top candidate to back up Andrew Luck next season.

Khaled Holmes
News
The Colts are trying offensive linemen at different positions in the team's offseason workouts.

Part of the reason for the shuffling is that a pair of linemen, right tackle Gosder Cherilus and right guard Donald Thomas, aren't taking part in OTAs.

Left guard Jack Mewhort filled in at right tackle and newly acquired Todd Herremans was at right guard.

At center, Jonotthan Harrison appears to have the early edge over Khaled Holmes

"We've got some guys that we're moving around," coach Chuck Pagano said, per ESPN. "Come training camp, still going to be some competition."

Josh Mitchell

Injury
Duron Carter
News
The Colts certainly can't be viewed as short-handed at wide receiver. No team lining up T.Y. Hilton and Andre Johnson can be thought of negatively in that department.

But the team could struggle with depth at wideout if one or two others don't step up, per ESPN. Plenty of candidates pepper the roster, including Donte Moncrief, Phillip Dorsett, Duron Carter and Vincent Brown.

The most accomplished is Moncrief, who racked up 444 yards as a rookie a year ago. But Dorsett has an advantage as a 2015 first-rounder. Carter has two years of experience in the Canadian Football League while Brown has 72 receptions for 919 yards during his NFL career.

It remains to be seen how it all shakes out, but the presence of premier quarterback Andrew Luck could prove to make one and all better.

Zach Kerr

Clayton Geathers
News
The Colts didn't sign veteran Dwight Lowery to cool his heels on the bench, but rookie fourth round pick and fellow safety Clayton Geathers is certainly making things interesting.

Geathers has earned plenty of practice reps, including some with the first team. Chuck Pagano is impressed.

"He's further ahead," Pagano told ESPN. "He's kind of exceeded our expectations to this point."

Geathers boasts the size and athleticism to cover tight ends. He showed that at Central Florida, where he racked up 383 tackles, three interceptons, five forced fumbles and 30 passes defensed.

"We're playing him down in the box in sub-packages as a dime backer," Pagano said. "So he's learning the backend plus he's learning the sub stuff. He's been really impressive as far as picking things up. He's an athletic guy."

T.Y. Hilton
News
Colts owner Jim Irsay said he believes the organization will work out a new deal with receiver T.Y. Hilton, according to the team's website

There was some speculation that the Colts could let Hilton walk since they drafted Phillip Dorsett. However, it doesn't appear the Colts drafted Dorsett as Hilton's replacement. With Irsay saying they're confident in extending Hilton, one could assume Hilton is who the Colts envision as their No. 1 receiver of the future.

Carlos Fields
News
The Giants signed cornerback Victor Hampton and linebacker Carlos Fields to the practice squad Tuesday, the New York Daily News reports.
Andre Johnson
News
Colts skill position newcomers Andre Johnson and Frank Gore have already shown a "relatively smooth" transition to their new team, Chuck Pagano told ESPN.

The wide receiver and running back performed so well in OTA work Wednesday that Pagano claimed that it appeared they had been with the organization for years.

"Pretty seamless," Pagano said about their work. "They don't miss a beat as far as the playbook goes, knowing what to do. Every time I see them in the huddle, break a huddle, to me it looks like they're going the right direction. They're lining up right. They're very talented, talented guys. They fit right into the locker room. They're professionals. ... They're not talkers. They're workers, they're doers."

Both veterans, however, have shown signs that their best days are behind them. The 33-year-old Johnson failed to reach 1,000 yards receiving last season for Houston for the first time in his last seven full seasons. The 32-year-old Gore managed another 1,000-yard performance in 2014, but his total was its lowest of any in a full season since 2008.

The Colts have re-signed safety Mike Adams to a two-year deal, CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports. Adams racked up 87 tackles, five interceptions and two forced fumbles in 16 games last season, his first with the Colts.

Vincent Brown

Gosder Cherilus, returning from knee and groin injuries that landed him on injured reserve last season, will start OTAs as the right tackle. Joe Reitz and Ulrick John will compete for the job.
