Jacksonville activated linebacker Daryl Smith off injured reserve on Saturday, reports the Florida Times-Union. To make room for Smith, who was out with a groin injury, the Jaguars placed safety Dwight Lowery on injured reserve, ending his season with a foot injury sustained at Miami last week.

The Jaguars activated defensive end John Chick off the PUP list Saturday. The team also signed quarterback John Parker Wilson off the practice squad. Jacksonville waived linebacker Brandon Marshall.

The following players were cut by the Chiefs Friday: defensive linemen Brandon Bair, defensive back Mikail Baker, wide receiver Josh Bellamy, fullback Patrick DiMarco, defensive back Chandler Fenner, defensive lineman Amon Gordon, wide receiver Junior Hemingway, defensive lineman Jerome Long, linebacker Gabe Miller, receiver Jamar Newsome, defensive back, Terrance Parks, defensive back Neiko Thorpe, safety Donald Washington and linebacker Leon Williams.

Marcedes Lewis told the Florida Times-Union that he's going to have the opportunity to "get busy" this season. Offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch wants to use as many playmakers as he can in this offense and has considered Lewis one since he came to Jacksonville, speaking about him as early as January. Lewis is focused solely on this season and isn't looking back at last season. "Let’s not even go there. I don’t want to go there in any aspect. I’d like to forget about all that. I’m kind of disgusted with that," he said.

The Jaguars announced Tuesday the team signed cornerback Marcus Trufant and waived cornerback Antuan Molden.

The Jaguars placed defensive lineman D'Anthony Smith (concussion, neck) on injured reserve Wednesday.

Jaguars rookie quarterback Matt Scott was back at practice on Monday.

Ankle - Probable for start of training camp

The Florida Times-Union reports that Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew showed up to the mandatory minicamp, even though he is not participating because of his injured foot, noticeably leaner than in early May. The report says he has advanced to full-speed cutting and last week pulled a 115-pound sled during one workout and ran a mile on the beach. “Things are going on the right path,” he said. “Obviously with the rehab, you’re going to have some off-days when there is some residual pain here and there. But as long as things keep going in the same direction, I’ll be alright.” Jones-Drew said his plan is to be ready for training camp. “Speaking to the doctors and [general manager] Dave [Caldwell], I don’t know if I’ll be on the field that day," Jones-Drew, indicating the start of camp. "But my plan is to be on the field going full speed and running and making cuts.” Jones-Drew must first be cleared by Dr. Bob Anderson, who performed the Dec. 28 Lisfranc surgery in Charlotte and by the Jaguars’ medical staff.

Foot - Questionable for start of training camp

Free-agent defensive lineman Roy Miller agreed to a deal with the Jaguars on Friday and will compete for a starting job during the upcoming season, The Florida Times-Union reports. Miller started only 34 games with Tampa Bay after being selected in the third round of the 2009 draft.

The Jaguars placed LB Matt Roth (concussion) on injured reserve on Monday. Roth will miss the last week of the season.

Jaguars quarterback Jordan Rodgers will be out until the start of training camp after undergoing hernia surgery, the Florida Times-Union reports.

Hernia - Questionable for the start of training camp

The Jaguars signed wide receiver Toney Clemons off the Steelers' practice squad Tuesday.

Jaguars defensive tackle Tyson Alualu and defensive end Andre Branch sat out practice Thursday with injuries suffered in previous minicamp workouts. Alualu has an abdominal issue while Branch hurt his groin. Neither ailment is considered serious.

The Jags have solved one of their potential free agent problems as they have signed LS Jeremy Cain to a contract. He was scheduled to be an UFA.

Jaguars linebacker Paul Posluszny (groin) was cleared to play Week 17 at Tennessee after being listed as probable on the injury report.

The Jaguars have claimed quarterback Mike Kafka on Tuesday after he was waived Monday by New England to make room for Tim Tebow.

Jaguars defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey had one of his poorer games during the Week 11 overtime loss at Houston Sunday. Mincey recorded just one tackle in the game.

The Associated Press reports that Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon is dealing with a left groin injury, which has limited him during minicamp practice.

The Jaguars waived defensive end Ryan Davis Tuesday.

In the wake of Josh Scobee agreeing to a new contract, the Jaguars waived kicker Brandon Coutu.

The Jaguars have signed another Patriots castoff, this time receiver Jeremy Ebert.

The Jaguars placed running back Jordan Todman (calf) on injured reserve Tuesday.

The Florida Times Union reports Tuesday that the Jaguars will not offer defensive back Rashean Mathis. Mathis will become an unrestricted free agent. “It was a difficult decision because he’s done so many things not only for the team but the community,” general manager Dave Caldwell said.

CBSSports.com Senior NFL Columnist Pete Prisco believes Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts will break out in 2013. Shorts revealed he's put on seven pounds of muscle this offseason to help shed defensive backs that jam him on the line of scrimmage. He said he feels stronger and more explosive. He's also headed to Larry Fitzgerald's workouts in Minneapolis this summer for the second year in a row. "Fitzgerald is the ideal pro," Shorts said. "He's an extremely hard worker, extremely humble. He's the professional of all professionals. He gets it. You can see why he's one of the best. I want to work to get there."

They also drafted receiver/kick returner Ace Sanders from South Carolina.

NotedSports Illustrated NFL writer Peter King reports that he's hearing the Jags have some very interesting offensive wrinkles set to try with fifth-rounder Denard Robinson. King reports that Robinson could be a Kordell Stewart-slash kind of player.

According to CBS Sports Radio 610 in Houston, it appears the Texans are a step closer to signing receiver Mike Sims-Walker. The Texans had him on the field Tuesday for the first day of their three-day minicamp. Currently, the Texans are thin at receiver with Andre Johnson sidelined with a knee injury, leaving Kevin Walter as the only healthy receiver on the roster with a catch in an NFL game. Sims-Walker, a five-year veteran, had some good years with the Jaguars. He caught 63 catches for 869 yards and seven touchdowns in 2009, but his production dropped off considerably last season and he was cut by the Rams after just four games. “He looked pretty good,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak said after Tuesday’s practice. “Obviously jumping out here in this heat we are having right now is pretty tough. Thought he did some pretty good things but we will go back and look at the tape and all the periods and see how he did. It gives us three days to evaluate.”

The Jaguars bolstered their linebacker depth with Geno Hayes, formerly of the Bucs and Bears.

The Jaguars signed quarterback Jordan Palmer Wednesday after placing Blaine Gabbert (forearm/shoulder) on injured reserve.

The Jaguars have tinkered with defensive lineman Tyson Alualu, moving him to end on first and second downs, then moving him inside on third downs. The plan is to use his run-stopping skills more on those early downs.

Jaguars linebacker Russell Allen had another solid performance in Week 15 against the Dolphins. He finished the game with seven tackles -- all solo -- in a 24-3 loss.

The Jaguars on Thursday released defensive end Aaron Kampman. The 10-year veteran signed as an unrestricted free agent in 2010 but was limited to 11 games in two seasons because of knee injuries. He had been working on the side during the offseason after playing three games last season.

The Florida Times-Union reports that Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert is on top of the depth chart heading into training camp ahead of Chad Henne for the starting job. The report says that "barring a horrific August, Gabbert will be the starter against Kansas City on Sept. 8."

Forearm, shoulder - Probable for start of training camp

Jaguars receiver Taylor Price (foot) had been placed on IR. He has five receptions in six career games, and was a stretch to make the final roster had he remained healthy.

New Jaguars running back Justin Forsett figures he'll be pushed into a backup role once Maurice Jones-Drew comes back from a foot injury, but until then he's doing what he can to take advantage of his practice reps with the first team offense. Coach Gus Bradley is happy to have him. "You can count on him, steady, always does things right, had a good last year [in Houston]," Bradley told the Florida Times-Union. "I know in talking with some of their staff earlier they felt strongly about him just the same way I felt about him when we were in Seattle. So I think he brings that continuity to what we have. He raises the level of play throughout the whole running backs."

The Florida Times-Union reports that Jaguars receiver Mohamed Massaquoi’s best chance to play this season will come at the slot position since the Jaguars have Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon locked in as their starters. In his last two games for Cleveland last year, Massaquoi played 19 of his 39 snaps against Kansas City and Washington in the slot or inside as part of a bunch formation. “It’s weird because the slot is a world of difference than the outside,” he said. “But I’m comfortable playing either one.” Massaquoi and Jordan Shipley are expected to compete for playing time in the slot.

The San Jose Mercury News reported Thursday that the 49er's have cut defensive back Curtis Holcomb, the team's seventh-round pick in 2011.

ESPN reports the Jaguars have signed receiver Jordan Shipley to a two-year deal. The report says Shipley has a chance to be the No. 3 receiver behind Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts.

The Jaguars announced Tuesday the team signed cornerback Marcus Trufant and waived cornerback Antuan Molden. Trufant is entering his 11th season after playing his previous 10 with the Seahawks including four with current Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley.

Jacksonville placed rookie DB Chris Prosinski on injured reserve with a thumb injury. He is the 22nd Jaguars player to be placed on IR this season.

Florida International safety Jonathan Cyprien was a second-round pick of the Jaguars in the NFL draft. The 6-foot, 217-pound safety is known for his hard hits and work as a two-deep defender in college. In four seasons Cyprien racked up 365 total tackles, six interceptions, a sack, and 28 passes defensed.

NotedSports Illustrated NFL writer Peter King reports that he's hearing the Jags have some very interesting offensive wrinkles set to try with fourth-round pick Ace Sanders. King said Sanders could be a lesser Tavon Austin, who is a fellow rookie with the Rams.

Abdomen, Hip - Questionable for start of training camp

Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee didn't attempt a field goal and finished with just two extra points Week 17 at Tennessee. It was the third time this season Scobee was held without a field goal.

The Jaguars have signed defensive lineman Pannel Egboh.

The Jaguars re-signed defensive back Kevin Rutland on Friday to fill the roster vacancy created by linebacker Daryl Smith, who was placed on injured reserve. Smith is eligible to return for the final two games of the season. Jacksonville released Rutland on Oct. 15.

The Cowboys continued trimming their roster Friday in preparation for the regular season and released the following players: defensive linemen Clifton Geathers, Rob Callaway and Ben Bass; linebackers Baraka Atkins, Orie Lemon and Adrian Hamilton; wide receivers Saalim Hakim and Tim Benford; quarterback Rudy Carpenter; tight end Andrew Szczerba; defensive backs Eddie Whitley, Lionel Smith, Teddy Williams and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah; and running back Shaun Chapas.

Third-year linebacker Greg Jones and second-year running back Richard Murphy were waived by the Jaguars on Monday.

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis, RB Montell Owens, RB Brock Bolen and QB Luke McCown didn't record offensive statistics at New England in Week 16.

Former Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey told SiriusXM NFL Radio Wednesday that if he were still in Jacksonville he'd go with Chad Henne over Blaine Gabbert at quarterback. The two passers are battling for the starting job this summer, with Gabbert believed to have the edge. "I think the jury is still out on Blaine. He's got a lot of growing up to do. He's still a young player mature-wise," Mularkey said. " ... I know the number of starts that [Henne's] had and I know how our guys responded when he came in against Houston last year and we should have beat Houston. Lost to them in overtime at their place. And I know that, at the time, players were drawn to him by his leadership ability. He reminds me a lot of Matt Ryan, being with Matt for four years, of walking in that huddle and calling a play and guys believing the play's going to work. That's what Chad's got going for him right now."

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley announced defensive end Jason Babin had groin surgery Tuesday morning. He's expected back for training camp.

Groin - Questionable for start of training camp

The Jaguars have claimed defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick from the Patriots.

The Jaguars added depth to their ailing backfield Friday, claiming running back Jonathan Grimes off waivers from the Texans. Grimes was released by Houston earlier this week after suiting up for just six games with the team after being dropped by the Jets.

Jackonsville tight end Brett Brackett was placed on season-ending injury reserve Tuesday, less than a week after he signed with the team. The Jaguars signed tight end Colin Cloherty to take his place on the active roster.

Jaguars defensive lineman Austen Lane suffered a late leg injury on Sunday of Week 12 against the Titans. Lane left the game late and finished with two tackles prior to leaving.

Jaguars running back Keith Toston was a late addition to the starting lineup Week 17 at Tennessee after starting running back Montell Owens was a pregame scratch because of a knee injury. While Toston hadn't received a carry in an NFL game since Dec. 22, 2010, he looked the part of a starting NFL running back Sunday. Toston had a team-high 74 rushing yards on 17 carries. He started well by rushing for 29 yards on the team's opening drive. Toston added three catches for 41 yards and finished with 115 total yards.

The Jaguars claimed tight end Allen Reisner off waivers Monday and added him to the active roster. Reisner, who was released by the Vikings last week, will occupy the roster spot vacated by running back Rashad Jennings, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

A day after the Patriots waived defensive tackle Kyle Love, the Jaguars claimed him. He's the second defensive tackle claimed by the Pats this week, the other being Brandon Deaderick.

The Dallas Morning News reports that the Cowboys could have interest in free agent receiver Laurent Robinson. The report says Dallas hoped to keep Robinson after his breakout season in 2011 but could not come close to the 5-year, $32.5 million contract he received from Jacksonville. Robinson caught 24 passes for 252 yards and no touchdowns for the Jaguars in 2012 but suffered four concussions. He caught 54 passes for 858 yards and 11 touchdowns in his only season with the Cowboys. Robinson’s health is a concern, but he developed a strong rapport with quarterback Tony Romo, especially in the red zone, that he remains an option to return. “Obviously, he played lights out and we tried to sign him last year and his price got more than we could handle under our cap,’’ executive vice president Stephen Jones said. “But obviously things change from year-to-year. We’ve got to look at the big picture with Laurent. He had some injuries that we’re going to be doing our homework on and be going from there.’’

The Jaguars have signed defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks to a contract. He'll provide depth along the D-line.

Jacksonville defensive back Mike Harris had a big game in the Week 12 win over Tennessee Sunday. Harris recorded a sack of quarterback Jake Locker in the game. He also picked off a Locker pass and finished with five tackles. All five of his tackles were solo stops. Harris had three passes defended in the all-around solid game.

Former Texans defensive back Alan Ball agreed to a contract with the Jaguars on Friday, The Florida Times-Union reports. Ball, who spent just one season with Houston, is expected to compete for a starting job at cornerback with Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released offensive tackle Guy Whimper, quarterback John Parker Wilson and defensive back Brandon King.

The Jaguars placed cornerback William Middleton on waivers Tuesday because of a concussion.

Jacksonville placed DB Darcel McBath on injured reserve Tuesday because of a broken hand. The Jaguars, who now have 28 players on injured reserve this season, signed seven-year veteran DB C.C. Brown to take his place.
