The Chiefs placed wide receiver Terrance Copper on injured reserve Saturday with a troublesome knee injury. Copper, who was already ruled out for the season finale, was replaced on the roster by fellow wideout Terrance Cooper after he was promoted from the practice squad.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid was asked Thursday about what he thinks of receiver Jon Baldwin so far. Kansas City is going through OTA workouts. “He’s done some good things," Reid said. "He had some good catches today. He’s working hard. He’s working on the little things, and that will help him down the road here.” Reid said Baldwin is adjusting his style of play. "He’s a big man, so there is a certain way you need to play when you’re big," Reid said. "He’s doing that. He’s getting better at it."

Chiefs rookie receiver Devon Wylie says things are slowing down for him at OTAs after a hectic minicamp. Wylie is vying for playing time this summer. "Things are all starting to click," he said Monday. "Remembering terms -- things are all starting to click. It's definitely a lot easier than it was in the beginning."

The Cowboys released cornerback Vince Agnew Tuesday.

The Chiefs promoted wide receiver Junior Hemingway from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, helping provide some depth to the team's ailing receiving corps. Kansas City placed fellow wideout Terrance Copper on injured reserve to clear a roster spot.

Chiefs interim head coach Romeo Crennel said Wednesday that QB Kyle Orton would start Week 15 vs. Green Bay, if healthy. Orton is recovering from a dislocated finger on his throwing hand, suffered Week 13. If Orton isn't available, then Ricky Stanzi would start, as Crennel has benched Tyler Palko, who has been starting in place of the injured Matt Cassel.

Chiefs TE Jake O'Connell finished with a season-high three receptions for 22 yards in Week 11 against the Patriots. He now has seven catches for 52 yards on the season.

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports that the Chiefs have signed defensive end Mike DeVito to a three-year deal worth $12.6 million with $6.2 million guaranteed. He is scheduled to make $5.1 million in 2013. DeVito has spent his entire six-year career with the Jets. In 2012, he had 52 total tackles and one sack.

The Chiefs added running back Cyrus Gray of Texas A&M with their sixth-round pick in the NFL draft. The 5-foot-10, 206-pound Gray ran for 1,045 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Aggies last season. He finished with 3,298 yards rushing with 30 touchdowns on 632 carries in 49 career games. He also caught 103 passes for 776 yards and six scores. He returned 99 kickoffs for an average of 23.7 yards a return, with two touchdowns -- one covering 99 yards against Colorado and another going for 98 yards against Oklahoma when he was a freshman. He also threw a 14-yard touchdown pass as a junior. "His role will define itself as time goes on," Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli told SiriusXM NFL Radio. "He knows a lot about the NFL game. [Former Texas A&M head coach] Mike Sherman ran a pro style offense, and he's a smart player, a really tough player. He played a whole season with his shoulder in a harness. ... We've got a number of good backs and he's going to find a role. We're excited about having him around."

The Chiefs signed linebacker and special-teams standout Edgar Jones, releasing Andy Studebaker in the process.

Chiefs RB Thomas Jones rushed for 42 yards on 15 carries in the Chiefs 7-3 win over the Broncos in Week 17, and it may have been the last time Jones appears in a Chiefs uniform. With his contract up, Jones will be a free agent with his 34th birthday approaching before the 2012 season. At that advanced age, it seems unlikely that he will get much attention on the market, though he has given no indication that he is ready to quit playing.

Green Bay linebacker Desmond Bishop (hamstring) was among five players placed on injured reserve Monday and will miss the entire upcoming season. Bishop, who suffered a hamstring injury during the first quarter of the team's preseason opener, joins running back Duane Bennett; tight end DeMarco Cosby; defensive lineman Johnny Jones; and wide receiver Shaky Smithson on injured reserve.

Chiefs safety Abram Elam totaled nine tackles (six solo) Week 2 against the Bills. He had one tackle for loss. Elam has 14 tackles (10 solo) in two games.

Undrafted rookie quarterback Tyler Bray has looked good through offseason practices with the Chiefs and might catch on to the roster as their No. 3 QB this season. "I’ll tell you, he did a nice job. He did a really nice job," Reid said. "You never know until you get them here. He’s in a good room, so he’s got good examples around him as players. He’s got coaches that have played the game and the position in there. He’s embraced that and really focused in. The fact is that he did a nice job and improved every day. He was a bit like a sponge just taking everything in. I was impressed."

The following players were cut by the Chiefs Friday: defensive linemen Brandon Bair, defensive back Mikail Baker, wide receiver Josh Bellamy, fullback Patrick DiMarco, defensive back Chandler Fenner, defensive lineman Amon Gordon, wide receiver Junior Hemingway, defensive lineman Jerome Long, linebacker Gabe Miller, receiver Jamar Newsome, defensive back, Terrance Parks, defensive back Neiko Thorpe, safety Donald Washington and linebacker Leon Williams.

The Chiefs promoted wide receiver Jamar Newsome to the active roster Saturday to provide additional depth on special teams. Kansas City released offensive lineman Rich Ranglin to clear a spot on the roster for Newsome.

The Kansas City Star reports that Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles isn't worried about rookie running back Knile Davis taking away playing time from him this season. “There’s a short life for running backs,” Charles said. “I’m not worried about (Davis). He’s my teammate. I love the guy. I want him to come in and do great. I wish that to be known. But at the same time, I’ve got a family to feed. My main job is to stay on top of things as much as possible.” Charles likes his chances to stay on top this season given the new offense in Kansas City under coach Andy Reid. "This offense might be the best thing that ever happened to me,” Charles said. “I think this offense will get me open. They’re going to throw me the ball more. I think I’ll continue to stack Pro Bowls on Pro Bowls if I can stay healthy. "

The Chiefs and cornerback Sean Smith have agreed to a three-year deal. Smith's arrival gives Kansas City a pretty good cornerback trio with him, Dunta Robinson and Brandon Flowers.

The Chiefs have signed ex-Eagles linebacker Akeem Jordan. He's expected to start as an inside linebacker in their 3-4 scheme defense next to Derrick Johnson.

The Chiefs added three players Monday: defensive end Marcus Dixon, tight end Kevin Brock and wide receiver Mardy Gilyard.

In addition to drafting edge rusher Justin Houston, the Chiefs drafted Miami DE Allen Bailey (Round 3), Colorado CB Jalil Brown (Round 4), Oregon State LB Gabe Miller (Round 5) and Ole Miss DT Jerrelle Powe (Round 6).

The Chiefs have signed outside linebacker Frank Zombo, according to ESPN.

The Chiefs made the final cuts necessary to get down the the final 53 players on Saturday. Among the released were WRs Jeremy Horne, Zeke Markshausen, and Verran Tucker; DL Harold Ayodele, FB Shane Bannon, LB Justin Cole, FB MIke Cox, DL Dion Gales, TE Charlie Gantt, LB Micah Johnson, LB Amara Kamara, S Reshard Langford, DB Quinten Lawrence, Ricky Price, TE Cody Slate, DT Anthony Toribio, LB Pierre Walters and DB Demond Washington. The team also placed LB Gabe Miller (undisclosed) on injured reserve.

The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said Monday quarterback Brady Quinn suffered an injury to his ribs Week 15 and he is questionable heading into Week 16 vs. Indianapolis. Crennel was vague Monday about who would start at quarterback if Quinn was sidelined. Crennel hinted Ricky Stanzi might start for Kansas City. “There’s a possibility,” Crennel said of Stanzi playing Sunday. “Like I said last week, there’s a possibility, and I mentioned injuries as one of the reasons. We’ll see what Brady looks like, and then we’ll make some decisions and go from there.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Thursday that tight end Tony Moeaki, who underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his knee this offseason, could be out until training camp. "Probably see him at training camp,” Reid said. He was asked if Moeaki would be ready when training camp starts. “We’ll see," Reid said. "But right now, I’m thinking he will be, but we’ll see how it goes. He’s working like crazy.”

Knee - Questionable for start of training camp

The Chiefs have released fullback Ryan D’Imperio, running back Nate Eachus and defensive back Jose Gumbs.

The Kansas City Chiefs filled one of their biggest needs with a massive gamble, selecting Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe with the No. 11 pick in the NFL draft Thursday night, taking a mammoth run stuffer whose raw ability and impressive numbers from the scouting combine trumped his modest on-field production. The 6-foot-4, 346-pound Poe pushed 44 reps with 225 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash in an unofficial time of 4.98 seconds. But he was only second-team all-Conference USA after making 33 stops, eight tackles for loss and one sack, flying under the radar most of last season. "We think he's a good player. I think that's probably the best way to put it," Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli said. "I don't think this is as risky of a pick. Here's what's not risky about the player: The player fits the mold of the type of player we were looking for physically, for that position. He fits a need to a degree. He fits everything we believe in makeup-wise. This is not a risky player in a sense that I know, and we know, we have a football player who will come in and do a great job."

When asked by the media Friday to talk about a player who has stood out through the Chiefs' OTAs, coach Andy Reid singled out undrafted hoopster-turned-tight end Demetrius Harris. "Harris has done a nice job," Reid said. "He came in as a basketball player and has just gotten better and better every day. You see him out here making plays. ... I’m proud of him for the way he’s worked, that’s not an easy transition. ... We saw the athleticism. John Dorsey, that was his guy and he saw the ability there. He had been a real good high school receiver so you bring him in and give him a shot. That’s what those are all about -- those tryout positions. He came in and stayed in and made the most of it so far."

Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe said earlier this offseason that his goal is "to lead the league in receptions and touchdowns," but that didn't fly with the coaches in Kansas City, according to the National Football Post. The report says some of the coaches for the Chiefs "had to have a word" with Bowe about his stated goal. The report says they appreciate Bowe’s enthusiasm and ambition, but they want him to understand Andy Reid’s offense doesn’t work that way. Reid likes to spread the ball around to multiple targets and take what the defense gives them. The report adds Reid "won’t be looking to use Bowe the way the Lions use Calvin Johnson."

The Chiefs have re-signed unrestricted free agent defensive back Travis Daniels. Daniels has appeared in 41 games over three seasons with the Chiefs, with 47 tackles (28 solo) and three interceptions. He also plays on special teams. Daniels is a seven-year NFL veteran who was a fourth-round pick (104th overall) out of LSU by Miami in 2005.

Multiple sources are reporting that Chiefs backup tight end Martin Rucker could be lost for the year with a torn ACL suffered in practice this week. Head coach Romeo Crennel said the injury doesn't look good.

Free agent receiver Steve Breaston has been cleared to resume his career after an MRI revealed no significant damage to his knee. ESPN reports the agent for Breaston said his client will not undergo a Regenokine procedure in Germany after he experienced knee inflammation and early arthritic symptoms in his knee.

The Chiefs announced that the signed free agent safety Sabby Piscitelli on Thursday, with the terms of the deal undisclosed. He will compete for playing time as a reserve, though he has starting expiration in the NFL. Piscitelli was a backup in Cleveland last season, notching just 23 tackles and one interception.

The Chiefs added defensive back Neiko Thorpe to the active roster Friday, as they are dealing with some injuries in the defensive backfield.

Chiefs defensive back Brandon Flowers registered his first sack of the season in Week 16 against the Colts. Flowers also was credited with two tackles for loss, one pass defended and a quarterback hit as well as four solo tackles in the 20-13 defeat.

Chiefs rookie running Knile Davis has caught coach Andy Reid's eye. Even though he has virtually no shot at replacing Jamaal Charles as the team's starting running back he has been impressive through OTA workouts and minicamp thus far. "He's getting better," Reid said. "He's a smart kid. It looks like he's playing faster, which normally means he's picking things up and things are becoming a little easier for him. I like the way he's catching the ball. He had the one drop today, and you can't have that. But other than that, he caught the ball well."

The Chiefs and linebacker Zac Diles have agreed to a contract.

Chiefs TE Anthony Becht had one catch for 6 yards Saturday against Oakland in Week 16. He had one target in the game.

The Chiefs announced on Monday that the club has signed linebacker Edgar Jones and placed defensive back Kyle McCarthy on injured reserve.

Chiefs defensive back Eric Berry was credited with two more passes defended in Week 16 against the Colts. Berry also finished with four solo tackles in the 20-13 win, including one tackle for loss. He now has 10 passes defended on the season, which is a career high.

The Chiefs announced Sunday the release of fullback Shane Bannon, tight end Tim Briere, linebacker Caleb Campbell, defensive back Dominique Ellis, defensive back Jean Fanor, linebacker Dexter Heyman, wide receiver Jeremy Horne, defensive end Ethan Johnson, wide receiver Brandon Kinnie, wide receiver Zeke Markshausen, kicker Matt Szymanski and wide receiver Aaron Weaver.

Chiefs running back Peyton Hillis did not see a ton of touches in Week 17 against the Broncos. He gained just 4 yards on five carries in the 38-3 loss.

The Chiefs have parted ways with tight end Kevin Boss and wide receiver Steve Breaston, according to the team's official website.

The Chiefs announced Wednesday that the club has signed free agent linebacker Chad Kilgore. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Raiders in 2012. He spent the 2012 training camp with the Raiders before being released prior to the regular season.

Just a week after being released by the Falcons, ESPN reports that the Chiefs have agreed to sign free agent Dunta Robinson to a three-year deal. The deal is expected to become official once the free agency period begins on March 12.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced the release of fullback Patrick DiMarco, linebacker Cory Greenwood, offensive lineman Bryan Mattison and quarterback Alex Tanney.

Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop supplied the only offense for his team in Week 17 against the Broncos. He made 1 of 2 field goals in the 38-3 loss. He made a 23-yarder in the first half but missed from 33 yards before halftime.

The Chiefs moved wide receiver Josh Bellamy from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, adding some needed depth on their ailing roster. Bellamy saw practice time at defensive back this past week. To clear a roster spot, Kansas City released offensive lineman Hayworth Hicks.

The Chiefs signed linebacker Leon Williams Thursday.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid likes what he sees from rookie tight end Travis Kelce so far through OTA workouts. The Chiefs drafted Kelce in the third round from Cincinnati. "He’s doing a nice job, athletically," Reid said Thursday. "Again, that’s one of the positions that has a whole lot of different looks that they’ve got to learn, and he’s working through that. He’s a smart kid, he’s working through it. It’s just a matter of time and reps there. He’s working hard.”

Chiefs receiver Dexter McCluster was back at practice in full Tuesday according to the Kansas City Star. He missed some work with a hamstring strain.

Less than a month after the Chiefs restructured the contract of defensive lineman Tyson Jackson, ESPN reported Tuesday that the two sides have tweaked his contract again in order to keep him around for 2013. Jackson finished last season with a combined 43 tackles and three sacks in 15 games played.

The Chiefs have reached a one-year agreement with DL Kelly Gregg on Saturday.

The Chiefs placed defensive lineman Allen Bailey (ankle) on injured reserve Thursday.

Kansas City DB Jon McGraw left during the second quarter of Week 14 against the Jets with an ankle injury. McGraw hobbled off the field following a tackle and his return in questionable. He recorded four tackles before departing.

To get down to the league-mandated 53-man roster, the Ravens parted ways with the following players: DT Nader Abdallah, FB Jason Cook, TE Davon Drew, LB Tony Fein, WR Yamon Figurs, WR Jayson Foster, K Graham Gano, S K.J. Gerard, WR Justin Harper, CB Evan Oglesby, RB Cedric Peerman, OT Joe Reitz, WR Eron Riley, TE Isaac Smolko, LB William VanDeSteeg and WR Ernie Wheelwright. DT Will Johnson reached an injury settlement with the team and also was jettisoned.

The Chiefs have agreed to terms with quarterback Chase Daniel on a three-year deal, ESPN reports. Daniel backed up Drew Brees in New Orleans for the first four years of his career.

Donnie Avery was back at Chiefs OTA practice on Friday, doing some team drills among other things. According to coach Andy Reid he had missed time with a high-ankle sprain. "[T]hose are tough to come back from, especially at his position," Reid said. "Offensive linemen, defensive linemen can come back a little bit quicker."

Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali registered his ninth sack of the season in Week 16 against the Colts. He finished with two tackles in the 20-13 win and now has nine sacks on the year, which is second only to Justin Houston's 10.

The Chiefs claimed defensive lineman Austen Lane off waivers from the Jaguars, dropping defensive lineman Daniel Muir in the process. Lane has three career sacks over three seasons; Muir has one-half sack over 46 career games. 

Houston coach Gary Kubiak said Monday that defensive back Quintin Demps had surgery on his broken forearm and is expected to be sidelined for an extended period, but the issue is not season-ending. Demps also had surgery to repair his thumb last week and played Sunday.

The Chiefs signed linebacker and special-teams standout Edgar Jones, releasing Andy Studebaker in the process.

The Kansas City Chiefs waived LS Thomas Gafford, WR C.J. Jones, DT T.J. Jackson and LB Darrell Robertson on Friday. Gafford played in nine games as Kansas City's long snapper in 2008, while Jackson saw duty in four games for the Chiefs a year ago.

The Chiefs have signed former Vikings safety Husain Abdullah, who gave up football last season to make a pilgrimage to Mecca. A practicing Muslim, Abdullah turned down a contract offer from Minnesota to speak at mosques across the country along with his brother, former Cardinals defensive back Hamza Abdullah.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid has been impressed with quarterback Alex Smith so far this offseason. “I think Jim (Harbaugh) did a nice job with him out in San Francisco," Reid said. "He was productive out there. What we’re doing here is just what you’re saying. Everybody is all on board. He’s a good football player. He has good leadership. I’m asking him to do a ton of things. He’s handling it. We’ve had an interception here or there, but that’s all part of this thing. You have to find out about the offense, and you can’t do it with your hands in your pocket. You have to go out and you have to try things and experiment. That’s what he’s doing right now. At the same time, you’re training the receivers, and they’re running their tails off for him. It’s just good stuff. He’s staying aggressive with the ball, and I appreciate that.”

The Cardinals have traded fullback Anthony Sherman to the Chiefs for cornerback Javier Arenas.

Wilson.

Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston was able to contribute just two tackles in Week 14 Sunday against the Browns. He was held without a sack for the first time in three games.

Kansas City defensive back Kendrick Lewis left in the first half of Week 12 against Denver with a shoulder injury and was questionable to return. He matched the team lead with five tackles before departing and now has 18 total stops on the season. Travis Daniels took over for him Sunday.

Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson had another productive performance in Week 17 against the Broncos. He recorded six solo tackles and also defended two passes in the 38-3 loss.
