The Cleveland Browns have waived running back Clifton Smith, who was recently signed to return kickoffs when Joshua Cribbs was hurt.

The Dolphins spent two seventh-round picks on defenders: Alabama A&M DT Frank Kearse and Montana CB Jimmy Wilson.

Miami placed LB Koa Misi on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday with a shoulder injury. The Dolphins promoted QB Pat Devlin from the practice squad to take Misi's spot on the active roster.

Shoulder - IR. Out for the season

The Dolphins signed defensive back Richard Marshall to a three-year deal on Wednesday. The Cardinals did not match the Dolphins offer on Marshall. ESPN.com reported the deal was worth $16 million, including $6 million guaranteed.

Miami TE Anthony Fasano registered four catches for just 11 yards during the Dolphins' 19-17 loss to the Jets in Week 17. Fasano was back in the lineup after missing last week's game with a concussion and collected six targets from QB Matt Moore on Sunday.

The Seahawks signed DB Marcus Brown to the active roster on Monday and placed DB Roy Lewis on injured-reserve.

The Dolphins selected Michigan State receiver B.J. Cunningham in the sixth round of the NFL draft. Cunningham, the Spartans' leading career receiver, had 79 catches last year for 1,306 yards and 12 touchdowns. In four seasons he made 218 receptions for a school-record 2,086 yards. He stands at 6-foot-1 and 211 pounds.

Dolphins DB Tyrone Culver totaled two solo tackles and one sack in Week 9 at Kansas City. It was his first career sack.

The Dolphins reached the decision on the final 53 players they will carry heading into the season, so they let several players go. Among the released were QBs Kevin O’ Connell and Pat Devlin, CB Vincent Agnew, TE Brett Brackett, WR Patrick Carter, TE Dedrick Epps, LB Jonathan Freeny, RB Nic Grigsby, WR Phillip Livas, WR John Matthews, CB Nate Ness, LB David Nixon, WR Julius Pruitt, S Mark Restelli, LB Robert Rose, TE Mickey Shuler, LB Quinton Spears, S Gerald Alexander, CB Will Allen, FB Lousaka Polite and NT Ronald Fields.

The Chiefs made the final cuts necessary to get down the the final 53 players on Saturday. Among the released were WRs Jeremy Horne, Zeke Markshausen, and Verran Tucker; DL Harold Ayodele, FB Shane Bannon, LB Justin Cole, FB MIke Cox, DL Dion Gales, TE Charlie Gantt, LB Micah Johnson, LB Amara Kamara, S Reshard Langford, DB Quinten Lawrence, Ricky Price, TE Cody Slate, DT Anthony Toribio, LB Pierre Walters and DB Demond Washington. The team also placed LB Gabe Miller (undisclosed) on injured reserve.

The Dolphins made Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill their first-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft at No. 8 overall. He will now compete with Matt Moore and David Garrard for the starting job.

The Dolphins' draft was highlighted by the selection of Ryan Tannehill, but they added three defenders. Miami (Fla.) defensive end Olivier Vernon, Oregon linebacker Josh Kaddu and Texas defensive tackle Kheeston Randall got their names called by the Fins.

The Dolphins placed WR Roberto Wallace (quadriceps) on injured reserve Wednesday to clear a roster spot for Gerald Alexander.

Quadriceps - IR. Out for the season

Miami K Dan Carpenter connected on four field-goal attempts -- all from outside of 40 yards -- and an extra point during the Dolphins' 19-17 victory over the Jets in Week 17. Carpenter's 58-yard field goal just before halftime was the second-longest of his career, trailing the 60-yarder he kicked against Cleveland last season. He also booted field goals of 44 (twice) and 40 yards during Sunday's game.

The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins signed receiver Legedu Naanee to a one-year deal Tuesday. Naanee, who spent last season in Carolina and ended the year on injured reserve with a foot problem, will compete for a roster spot.

Miami DB Sean Smith collected two tackles and an interception during the Dolphins' 20-19 loss to Dallas in Week 12 on Thursday. Smith picked off Cowboys QB Tony Romo during the first quarter -- one of two interceptions by Miami in Dallas' first three possessions.

The Dolphins signed WR Julius Pruitt to the 53-man roster on Saturday. Pruitt was cut by Miami at the end of training camp back in September.

Dolphins running back Jerome Messam will have his second knee surgery in five months. The former CFL rushing standout posted the news on Twitter, with the Palm Beach Post confirming that Messam originally hurt the meniscus in his left knee last November while playing with the Edmonton Eskimos. Messam is 6-foot-4 and over 240 pounds, a giant for a running back. He rushed for 1,057 yards and six touchdowns in 18 games for Edmonton last year.

Knee - Questionable for start of training camp

According to ESPN.com, TE Will Yeatman was ready to sign on to Pats practice squad Sunday when he was informed he had been claimed by Dolphins. He will now be the No. 2 TE in Miami behind Anthony Fasano.

The Dolphins selected Nevada receiver Rishard Matthews in the seventh round of the NFL draft. The 6-foot-2 Matthews had 91 receptions for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior. During his two seasons at Nevada he caught 147 passes for 2,243 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. He's a junior college transfer who missed two seasons (2007, 2008) with injuries.

Jets LB Jamaal Westerman recorded a sack of Redskins QB Rex Grossman in the Week 13 win at Washington. Westerman registered five total tackles in the game to go with his sack. He had two tackles for a loss.

Linebacker Gary Guyton has signed with the Miami Dolphins after spending the past four seasons with New England. Guyton started 32 games for the Patriots and has career totals of 4 1-2 sacks, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries. He signed with New England as an undrafted free agent in 2008.

The 49ers signed RB Ian Johnson to the practice squad on Monday. In a corresponding move, the team released RB Xavier Omon.

Back - Probable for start of training camp

The Dolphins have announced the signing of former Vikings safety Tyrell Johnson. The former second-round pick in Minnesota never met expectations, and he couldn't secure a starting job last season. He finished 2011 on injured reserve.

The Dolphins swapped defensive tackles on Wednesday, waiving Igor Olshansky and signing Ryan Baker.

The Dolphins have announced the re-signing of running back Steve Slaton on Wednesday. Slaton was claimed off waivers from the Texans on Sept. 28, 2011 as insurance for Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas.

After participating in his first weekend of workouts with the Dolphins, running back Lamar Miller seems like a player the team will depend on if only for his speed. And it might be beyond the running back position. Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said the team is looking into using Miller in a number of ways this season. "There's a couple pictures of him being spread out," Philbin told the Palm Beach Post. "There's a chance down the road, as Lamar gets acclimated, that he might be able to spread himself a ways as a receiver to a certain degree. I'm not saying make a full position change, but I think there's some flexibility with what you can do with the guy."

The Redskins have placed Anderson Russell on injured reserve on Monday with a knee injury. Russell tore his knee in the first half of Sunday's game against the Titans. He will miss the rest of the season.

Dolphins TE Charles Clay, playing with Anthony Fasano out injured for the game, caught a touchdown pass in the Week 16 game against the Patriots. Clay caught his second TD of the season in the second quarter as he scored on a 1-yard pass from Matt Moore to make the score 17-0 at the time. Clay finished the game with

The Dolphins promoted TE Jeron Mastrud from their practice squad to the 53-man roster on Tuesday.

The Dolphins signed DB Jonathan Wade on Tuesday.

Miami LB Karlos Dansby left in the first quarter of Week 17 against the Jets with a groin injury. His return is questionable. Dansby, who was tangled up attempting to make a tackle near the goal line, was replaced by Marvin Mitchell at the inside linebacker position.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Dolphins receiver Clyde Gates is no lock to make the final roster. The report states that "Gates, a former basketball player who didn’t play high school football, has tremendous speed, but is incredibly raw as a receiver, barely getting on the field during his rookie year and finishing with two catches. Considering he was drafted for the previous offense, has no ties to the current coaching staff and is competing with seven other receivers for three spots, Gates is certainly no lock to make the roster. His $339,861 in dead money is not onerous at all."

The Giants have signed WR Chris Hogan to the practice squad on Monday. Hogan was cut by the 49ers during the preseason.

The Palm Beach Post reports Wednesday that the Dolphins were able to sign free agent OLB Jason Trusnik to a two-year deal. The special-teams standout played in all 16 games over the last two season with the Browns.

The Dolphins have signed LB Danny Lansanah to their practice squad.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Dolphins receiver Davone Bess was healthy and practicing Tuesday during voluntary workouts, but the knee injury he suffered in the fourth quarter of the season-ending 17-13 win over the New York Jets last year turned out to be worse than previously reported. Bess said he suffered both a second-degree torn MCL and a partially torn ACL when he was dragged down by Jets linebacker Bart Scott following a 2-yard completion with just more than eight minutes left in the game. "Luckily, the ligaments were in the right place where they could heal by themselves, so I didn't have to have any surgery," Bess said.

Knee - Probable for start of training camp

The Dolphins' draft was highlighted by the selection of Ryan Tannehill, but they added three defenders. Miami (Fla.) defensive end Olivier Vernon, Oregon linebacker Josh Kaddu and Texas defensive tackle Kheeston Randall got their names called by the Fins.

Miami receiver Brian Hartline had a solid performance in the Week 16 loss at New England on Saturday. Hartline was involved early and often and he finished with four catches for 72 yards from QB Matt Moore. Hartline was targeted eight times in the game. He finished second on the team in receiving.

Dolphins DB Vontae Davis intercepted Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick twice in a Week 15 victory. Davis now has four picks on the season. He also made five tackles in the game.

The Dolphins might have another early season setback with LB Austin Spitler, who was seen walking out of the locker room with a boot on his left leg after Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons. He finished with one tackle before the early exit from the game.

Dolphins DL Tony McDaniel totaled two solo tackles, one sack and one pass defense in Week 9 against the Chiefs. He has 1 1/2 sacks in his last two games.

Dolphins S Chris Clemons recorded his first interception of the season in Week 12 against the Raiders. Clemons snagged a undethrown pass from Bruce Gradkowski out of the air in the end zone on Sunday. He finished with four tackles, all solo in the 33-17 win and was also credited with a pass defended.

The Dolphins have extended pass rush specialist Cameron Wake's contract through the 2016 season. Wake made the Pro Bowl in 2010, when he had 14 sacks, and he had 8 1/2 sacks last year. He came to the Dolphins in 2009 from the Canadian Football League, where he was a two-time defensive player of the year. ESPN reported the extension was worth $49 million, with $20 million guaranteed. "It's kind of like taking things to another level, kind of like when I came down here from the CFL," Wake said Sunday. "It has been an amazing, amazing journey."

Miami DB Nolan Carroll had two tackles and an interception during the Dolphins' 35-8 victory over Buffalo in Week 11. Carroll hauled in his first interception of the season on a tipped pass throw by Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. It was the second pick of his career.

After a recent rookie camp, Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin praised tight end Michael Egnew on his abilities along with noting his size, and thinks he can develop into a contributor who can line up all over the place. "We like his size, and we like his ability to attack the middle of the field," Philbin said. "[N]ow we have a guy at 6-foot-5 with good length, even if the linebacker matches him down the field sometimes you can get a back shoulder throw you can get the ball , those guys (like Egnew) have a big catching radius where they are big targets. So I think that hopefully in the red zone or other area of the field he can be a threat. ... He's not as comfortable yet playing next to an offensive tackle with his hand in the ground, which is something he's going to have to work on, no question about it. ... I think he has some versatility. We're going to see if we can line him up in a couple different spots."

Dolphins DB Reshad Jones, who was questionable with a knee injury, is active Week 8 at N.Y. Giants. However, he is replaced in the starting lineup by Tyrone Culver.

Miami signed RB Richard Medlin from its practice squad on Tuesday after placing OL Jake Long on injured reserve with a biceps injury.

Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill won't have any problems getting down the team's offense since it's basically the exact same version as the one he ran in college. The Dolphins offensive coordinator is Mike Sherman, who coached Tannehill at Texas A&M. "Some of the words have changed, but same concepts. Probably 80 to 85 (percent)," he said about how much of the offense he had down.

The Dolphins placed WR Marlon Moore on injured reserve on Tuesday after he suffered a foot injury in Week 8 against the Giants.

Multiple sources have reported that defensive lineman Paul Soliai on Wednesday.

Miami RB Daniel Thomas ran for 28 yards on 12 carries during the Dolphins' 19-17 win over the Jets in Week 17. Thomas earned the starting nod for Miami after RB Reggie Bush was ruled inactive with a knee injury. However, he could not take advantage of the increased workload and finished with less than 30 yards for the third time in his past four games. RB Steve Slaton paced the Dolphins with 55 rushing yards on 11 carries.

The Miami Herald reports that Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said Tuesday in a conference call with fans that he plans to expand the role for running back Reggie Bush in 2012. Unlike last year when Miami mostly used Bush as a traditional running back until very late in the season, Philbin said his staff will try to maximize Bush. He mentioned using him at wide receiver. He mentioned using him in different formations. He mentioned doing things to create mismatches. "We're not just going to hand the ball to him," Philbin said.

Miami DL Jared Odrick had three tackles and a sack during the Dolphins' 35-8 victory over Buffalo in Week 11. Odrcik took down Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to register a sack in his third consecutive game. He now has four sacks this season.
