The Dolphins cut wide receiver Jabar Gaffeny the team announced Tuesday. Gaffney had four catches for 68 yards in three games with Miami. Kyle Miller, who was claimed off waivers from the Colts, was signed to the 53-man roster.

The Dolphins spent two seventh-round picks on defenders: Alabama A&M DT Frank Kearse and Montana CB Jimmy Wilson.

The Dolphins placed defensive back Kelcie McCray on season-ending injured reserve Monday to help reach the NFL's latest roster requirements. McCray did not record a tackle during Miami's three preseason games.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Dolphins linebacker Koa Misi, entering his fourth NFL season, was involved in a fight in Southern California in April 2011 in which he punched through a man’s front door and hit him in the face, breaking the orbital bone in his eye socket. It took local authorities nearly a year to charge him with felony battery, as they did last March. And it took nearly another year for the case to be resolved, as it was Thursday. According to the Santa Barbara Independent, Misi received 400 hours of community service and must take 12 anger management classes in exchange for having the felony charge dropped to a misdemeanor. Misi also paid restitution up front — $42,000 for hospital bills and property damage. The judge was willing to drop the charge to a misdemeanor because Misi does not have a criminal history, although it is unclear if Misi will be subject to any discipline from the NFL office for violating the league’s player conduct policy.

Dolphins cornerback Richard Marshall posted on Twitter that he has been cleared to practice. He's coming back from a back injury.

The Dolphins have claimed ex-Eagles receiver Marvin McNutt off waiver. The second-year wideout was cut without making a catch last season.

The Dolphins drafted Caleb Sturgis in the fifth round of the NFL Draft out of the University of Florida. Sturgis will compete with Dan Carpenter for the kicking job in Miami, and Sturgis might be the favorite based on Carpenter’s struggles in recent years. Keep an eye on what develops of this battle in training camp, and if Sturgis is kicking for the Dolphins he would be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option in all leagues.

Dolphins rookie cornerback Jamar Taylor had surgery to repair a hernia and will cost him up to three weeks of practice time. He's a candidate to be back for a June minicamp and should be OK for the start of training camp.

Hernia - Probable for start of training camp

The Dolphins continued shaping their roster Saturday in preparation for the regular season and released defensive back Tyrone Culver and linebacker Jonathan Freeny.

NFL.com reports the Dolphins have re-signed quarterback Matt Moore to a two-year deal worth $8 million. Moore threw for 131 yards over two stints with a touchdown in 2012. "This team is definitely going places," he said. "There are big things to come, and I didn't want to miss out."

The Dolphins' draft was highlighted by the selection of Ryan Tannehill, but they added three defenders. Miami (Fla.) defensive end Olivier Vernon, Oregon linebacker Josh Kaddu and Texas defensive tackle Kheeston Randall got their names called by the Fins.

Chargers defensive lineman Vaughn Martin was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a groin injury.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel speculates kicker Dan Carpenter could be a salary cap casualty. Carpenter is slated to make $2.7 million in 2013, the final year of his deal. Replacing him with a rookie or restructuring his deal are options the team has. Carpenter made 22 of 27 field goals in 2012, missing three of five from 50-plus yards.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports the Dolphins have signed free agent receiver Mike Wallace on Tuesday. Wallace, who agreed to terms on a five-year deal for $65 million, more than fulfills the Dolphins' stated goal of wanting to get play-makers this offseason. Wallace, the speedy free agent from the Pittsburgh Steelers, provides the downfield big-play threat Miami’s pedestrian passing offense has been missing for years. Last season, he had 64 receptions for 836 yards and eight touchdowns. Two years ago he had 114 receptions for 1,193 yards and eight touchdowns.

Hip - Probable for start of training camp

The Dolphins official team website reports that receiver Brandon Gibson doesn't want to be labeled a slot guy even though he will likely play in that role a lot this season with Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline outside. “I think I can run any route out there,” said Gibson, who caught 51 passes for 691 yards and five touchdowns last season for the Rams. “My thing is just to know what I’m doing. If I know what I’m doing I think I’ll be all right. I think my thing is just making plays, going out there and catching the ball and just making things happen.”

According to ESPN.com, TE Will Yeatman was ready to sign on to Pats practice squad Sunday when he was informed he had been claimed by Dolphins. He will now be the No. 2 TE in Miami behind Anthony Fasano.

Miami placed LB Koa Misi on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday with a shoulder injury. The Dolphins promoted QB Pat Devlin from the practice squad to take Misi's spot on the active roster.

The Miami Herald reports that even though the Dolphins "love" Lamar Miller and have Daniel Thomas, who "sees himself as the successor to (Reggie) Bush," the darkhorse candidate to carry the running game is rookie Mike Gillislee. The report says "there is an internal excitement about him. There is hope he can factor and perhaps even surprise everyone." Gillislee was drafted in the fifth round this year out of Florida.

Dolphins wide receiver Rishard Matthews was announced as a starter for Week 16 against the Bills, and he put together his best game of the season. Matthews brought in two catches on three targets, for 37 yards, in a 24-10 win.

The Dolphins waived the following players Saturday: DT Chas Alecxih, TE Les Brown, CB Marcus Brown, S Tyrell Johnson, CB Trenton Hughes, LB Josh Linam, RB Jerome Messam, DE Jacquies Smith and CB Jonathan Wade.

The Dolphins claimed fullback/tight end Evan Rodriguez off waivers from the Bears. Rodriguez was cut following a pair of offseason arrests.

The Dolphins have signed linebacker Philip Wheeler to a five-year deal. Wheeler posted career highs in tackles (109), sacks (three), passes defensed (six) and forced fumbles (two) with the Raiders last year.

Miami QB J.P. Losman was called upon Week 14 against the Eagles after starter Matt Moore left in the fourth quarter with an injury. Losman did not fare too well for the Dolphins as he finished the game 6 for 10 for 60 yards without a touchdown or interception. Losman was sacked in the end zone for a safety by Phillip Hunt in the fourth quarter to ice the game for the Eagles. Losman rushed twice for 1 yard.

Dolphins wide receiver Armon Binns was not much of a factor in Week 17 against the Patriots. Binns hauled in three receptions for 40 yards in the 28-0 defeat and unofficially had three drops. His longest reception went for 21 yards and he was targeted seven times by rookie Ryan Tannehill.

Though Dolphins coach Joe Philbin won't admit as such, quarterback Ryan Tannehill told NFL Network that running back Lamar Miller is the starting running back "right now." Miller will still have to compete with the likes of Daniel Thomas and Mike Gillislee but Tannehill believes the second-year rusher from the University of Miami is well ahead of his competition. "He's doing a great job this offseason, really has a great handle on the offense and he's doing a great job protecting," Tannehill said. " ... They can (all) run the ball but being able to understand the pass game, understand the checkdowns and where they're protecting really makes a big difference and makes me more comfortable."

The Dolphins elevated cornerback Julian Posey from the practice squad to the active roster Wednesday.

The Sun-Sentinel reports Dolphins tight end Charles Clay tore a ligament in his right knee Week 15 vs. Jacksonville and will undergo season-ending surgery. Clay will be placed on injured reserve.

The Dolphins have signed quarterback Aaron Corp.

In an interview with CBSSports.com, Dolphins receiver Brian Hartline said the addition of tight end Dustin Keller is big. Kelller signed as a free agent from the Jets this offseason. "His presence in the passing game is going to be huge," Hartline said. "You can see, kind of speaking hopefully for myself, we’re designing our offense through the passing game. Having a dynamic pass-catching tight end like Dustin Keller is important."

Ankle - Probable for start of training camp

Miami defensive lineman Olivier Vernon had a huge performance for the Dolphins defense in Sunday's Week 8 win over the Jets. Vernon recovered a blocked punt in the end zone in the first quarter for a defensive touchdown. Vernon finished the game with just one tackle to go with the DTD.

Dolphins defensive lineman Randy Starks signed his franchise tender with the Dolphins Tuesday, putting him in line to make $8.45 million guaranteed for the upcoming season. The team appears to still be interested in signing Starks to a long-term contract, according to the Sun Sentinel.

The Palm Beach Post reports Wednesday that the Dolphins were able to sign free agent OLB Jason Trusnik to a two-year deal. The special-teams standout played in all 16 games over the last two season with the Browns.

The Dolphins pulled the first two shockers of the 2013 NFL Draft a little more than 30 minutes into the proceedings Thursday night. The first was dealing the No. 12 and No. 42 overall selections to the Raiders in exchange for the No. 3 overall pick. The second was when they used that selection to snag Oregon pass-rusher Dion Jordan. The Dolphins made the surprise move to get Jordan to pair opposite Cam Wake on defense. "I was surprised. I wasn't expecting that," Jordan said. "I'm surprised and very blessed ... and I'm ready to go to work." The Raiders had been attempting to deal out of the No. 3 spot all day to accumulate more selections. They entered the draft with seven overall picks, but the trade with Miami gave Oakland three selections among the top 66 in the draft.

Shoulder - Questionable for start of training camp

Dolphins fullback Jorvorskie Lane scored his third touchdown of the season Sunday against the Jaguars in Week 15. Lane brought in a 4-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Tannehill in the game, his first receiving score of the year. The Dolphins won, 29-17. He added another catch for 2 yards in the game.

Cornerback Will Davis of Utah State has been taken by the Dolphins in the third round of the NFL Draft. Davis was a two-year starter who made five interceptions and broke up 17 passes last year. Miami traded with Green Bay to acquire the pick, the 93rd overall. The Dolphins gave the Packers three picks Saturday - the 109th, 146th and 224th. Earlier Friday, Miami added cornerback Jamar Taylor of Boise State in the second round.

The Dolphins continued shaping their roster Saturday in preparation for the upcoming season and released linebacker Josh Kaddu. Miami selected Kaddu in the fifth round of last April's NFL draft.

The Dolphins added Mike Wallace, Brandon Gibson and Dustin Keller this offseason, but receiver Brian Hartline doesn't expect his role to change. Hartline projects to be the No. 2 receiver in Miami this season behind Wallace. "I’m just going to keep playing the way I play," Hartline said in an interview with CBSSports.com. "The coaches will put me in position to make plays. As long as we’re winning football games, that’s all that matters. Hopefully I’ll get some opportunities. And when the opportunities come I’ll make some plays."

The Dolphins might have another early season setback with LB Austin Spitler, who was seen walking out of the locker room with a boot on his left leg after Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons. He finished with one tackle before the early exit from the game.

The Dolphins have re-signed defensive back Chris Clemons.

Dolphins defensive lineman Cameron Wake bounced back from a subpar game in Week 16 against the Bills, and he established a new career high for sacks in the process. Wake brought down Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick once in the game, giving him 15.0 sacks on the season and breaking his previous personal best. Wake added three tackles and a forced fumble in the 24-10 win.

Dolphins defensive back Nolan Carroll was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Jaguars in the second quarter, after suffering a right knee injury. He was taken to the locker room and did not return.

Multiple media outlets reports the Dolphins claimed cornerback Dimitri Patterson off waivers from the Browns Tuesday.

The Dolphins activated running back Jonas Gray from the physically-unable-to-perform list Monday. The team has three weeks to decide whether to keep him on the 53-man roster or release him.

The Dolphins have signed linebacker Lee Robinson to a futures contract Thursday, according to the team's official website. Lee spent the 2011-12 season with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League and has not been in the NFL with the Broncos in 2010.

The Sun-Sentinel reports Dolphins cornerback De'Andre Presley was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Wednesday.

The Dolphins and former Falcons defensive back Brent Grimes have agreed to a one-year deal worth $5.5 million ($3 million guaranteed), CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports. Grimes played in just one game last season because of an Achilles injury he suffered in the opener that landed him on injured reserve. Miami provided the most money in a deal, while Cleveland and Atlanta also displayed some interest.

Achilles - Questionable for start of training camp

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin sees some improvement in second-year tight end Michael Egnew. "He feels more confident about his ability and he’s starting to understand his role in the offense better," Philblin told the Palm Beach Post. "Maybe we know a little bit more about him. We put him in a position when he can make some more of those plays. It’s been encouraging."

A one-day absence from Dolphins OTAs was all safety Reshad Jones could deal with. The Miami Herald reports he'll be in camp Tuesday after missing a conditioning session Monday. He's unhappy with his contract.

The Dolphins swapped defensive tackles on Wednesday, waiving Igor Olshansky and signing Ryan Baker.

According to ProInterviews.org's Max Strauss, defensive back R.J. Stanford signed his exclusive-rights tender contract with the Dolphins.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Dolphins rookie tight end Dion Sims has lost 16 pounds since his college days. Per Sims, he weighed as much as 280 because he was asked to block "70 percent of the time." Sims is expected to serve as the No. 2 tight end for the Dolphins this year. "There's a lot of stuff to know that I didn't have a clue about that can really help me out," Sims said. "Blocking is about shooting your hips forward and bringing your hips to block the defender. Most of the time on tape I was more leaning, heavyset and I was relying on my upper body strength. Once I learn how to use my lower body strength I think I’ll be more effective."

Former Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace isn't the only big named free agent taking his talents to South Beach, Ravens free agent linebacker Dannell Ellerbe is headed to Miami, too, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has confirmed. The Dolphins and Ellerbe have agreed to a five-year, $35 million contract. The deal was first reported by the Baltimore Sun. Ellerbe told the Baltimore Sun as recently as last week that he would like to remain a Raven, "The Ravens are a perfect situation for me. Hopefully, it's a perfect situation for me to sign on the dotted line," Ellerbe said. According to the report, the Ravens and Ellerbe were unable to reach a mutually attractive contract number, despite negotiating all day on Tuesday.

ESPN was at Dolphins OTA workouts Monday and noticed that quarterback Ryan Tannehill looked sharper than a week prior. He also showed some patience on the field and wasn't afraid to throw the ball away when a play broke down. It seems as if Tannehill is focused on cutting down on his turnovers, the report suggests.

On Monday, the 49ers waived fullback Cameron Bell, linebacker Kourtnei Brown, defensive tackle Patrick Butrym, wide reciever Ben Hannula, wide receiver Joe Hastings, defensive tackle Matthew Masifilo, cornerback Cory Nelms, cornerback Deante’ Purvis, tight end Joe Sawyer, kicker Giorgio Tavecchio and wide receiver Brian Tyms.

Multiple sources have reported that defensive lineman Paul Soliai on Wednesday.

The Miami Herald reports that Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas expects to compete for the starting job even though Lamar Miller is considered the front-runner. “I don’t know why [Miller] would have the inside track,” Thomas said. “It’s an open competition. Everybody has a fair shot. The best player is going to get the job. Nobody has a leg up. I’m looking to be that guy…. That’s why I put the work in.” Thomas said he trained in Arizona with other players including Tim Tebow, Terrell Suggs, LaRon Landry and James Harrison: “I wanted to get my legs back stronger [after knee surgery],” he said. “I’ve been very inconsistent. I’ve had a lot of injures. This is the year I’ve got to put everything together. When I’m healthy and on top of my game, I feel like I can play with the best of them.”

Knee - Probable for start of training camp

Miami DL Jared Odrick had three tackles and a sack during the Dolphins' 35-8 victory over Buffalo in Week 11. Odrcik took down Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to register a sack in his third consecutive game. He now has four sacks this season.

Dolphins running back Marcus Thigpen was able to make his presence felt in special teams as he took a kickoff back for a touchdown against the Bills in Week 11. Down 10-0 late in the first quarter, Thigpen returned a kickoff 94 yards back for a touchdown. He became the first player in franchise history to return a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown in a season.
