To make room for defensive back Don Jones on the 53-man roster, the Dolphins cut cornerback Lowell Rose.

Rose was signed by the Dolphins in October and appeared in five games, totaling one tackle.

The Dolphins have signed defensive back and special teams standout Don Jones, who was let go Thursday by New England, per the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Jones played in 25 of 27 games for the Patriots during the last two seasons.

Dolphins tight end Charles Clay and cornerback Cortland Finnegan have been officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots. Clay, who was a limited participant all week, returned to action for the first time in two weeks against the Ravens last week. 

Finnegan has missed the Dolphins' last four games with an ankle injury. Chris McCain and Jamar Taylor are also questionable.

Guard Nate Garner, who missed practiced all week with an illness, is out as well as defensive tackle Anthony Johnson

Jelani Jenkins, Koa Misi and Jonathan Freeney are all doubtful. Walt Aikens, Dion Jordan, Dion Sims and Jimmy Wilson are all probable.

As expected, the Dolphins announced offensive tackle Branden Albert has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

Albert suffered a significant knee injury when his leg was rolled on by another lineman during a Week 10 loss at Detroit. He was carted off the field in serious pain.

 The Dolphins signed Albert in the offseason to anchor their offensive line and protect quarterback Ryan Tannehill. With the loss of Albert, rookie right tackle Ja’Wuan James is expected to take over at left tackle.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin is not hiding his disappointment with punter Brandon Fields, whose 43.3 gross average on punts ranks 31st out of 32 punters in the NFL, according to The Miami Herald. His net average is 31.8, which is the worst in the NFL.

"Early on we got the punt blocked in Buffalo," Philbin said. "He just hasn’t looked as comfortable quite yet back there, as he has in the two years that I’ve been here, the previous two years. I’m confident he’ll work his way through it and he’ll get back to being the outstanding punter that we all know.

"For his standards, it’s not quite what we’re used to. I think he would acknowledge that, but I’m very, very confident that he’ll get back to that soon."

Dolphins kicker Caleb Sturgis had a 41-yard field goal attempt blocked and returned for a touchdown in Week 15 against New England. Sturgis converted a 24-yard and a 53-yard kick in the first half. The 53-yard kick was the longest made field goal of his career. He made 2 of 3 field goals and added one extra point in a 41-13 defeat.

The other inactives are wide receiver LaRon Byrd, cornerback Pierre Desir and defensive tackle Ishmaa'ily Kitchen.

The Dolphins were able to sign Kovacs, after the team placed Michael Thomas on injured reserve following a chest injury.

The Dolphins backup pass catchers did little Thursday against the Bills.

Running back Damien Williams hauled in two passes, gaining 38 yards. Tight end Charles Clay managed five catches, but only gained 31 yards during the contest. Brandon Gibson had a mostly quiet game, finishing with just 13 yards, but one of his catches was a 7 yard touchdown. Dion Sims also caught two passes for 11 yards. 

They'll take on the Broncos Week 12.

Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore got some action in Week 4 against the Raiders in London, but not in the circumstances he imagined to be in. With the game well in hand, Moore came in for Ryan Tannehill for the final three drives of the night. He did not attempt a pass and had two carries for minus-2 yards in a 38-14 victory.

The Dolphins have completed their series of cuts to pare down their roster to the league-mandated 53 heading into the regular season.

The dispatched offensive players are quarterback Seth Lobato, linemen Tony Hills, David Arkin, Sam Brenner and Evan Finkenberg , wideouts Kevin Cone and Matt Hazel, running backs Marcus Thigpen and Daniel Thomas and tight end Evan Wilson .

Among the defensive players let go are linemen Isaako Aaitui, Garrison Smith, Tevin Mims and D'Aundre Reed, linebacker Andrew Wilson and defensive backs Jordan Kovacs and Kevin Fogg. Placekicker Jake Rogers has also been waived.

The Dolphins have also placed defensive tackle on IR and defensive end Dion Jordan and safety Reshad Jones on the reserve/suspended list.

The Dolphins have labeled linebacker Jonathan Freeny (hamstring) and cornerback Jamar Taylor (shoulder) out for Sunday's pivotal game against Baltimore. Guard Nate Garner (illness), cornerback Cortland Finnegan (ankle) and linebacker Chris McCain (ankle) were deemed doubtful for Week 14.

Tight end Charles Clay (hamstring, knee) was the only player on the report deemed questionable. He was a limited participant all week leading up to Sunday.

The Dolphins reinstated defensive end Derrick Shelby, who missed one game after being suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. Shelby was arrested 10 days ago at a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., nightclub on misdemeanor charges of trespassing and resisting arrest without violence.

Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace surpassed the 100-yard threshold for the first time this season during Sunday's defeat to New England.

Wallace came down with an acrobatic 32-yard touchdown reception with five seconds remaining in the first half. He was targeted seven times and finished with five catches for 104 yards and a score in a 41-13 defeat. His last 100-yard came Dec. 15, 2013 against New England.

Wallace has 62 receptions for 804 yards and seven touchdowns on the year. He'll have two games to crack the 1,000-yard mark for the first time since 2011 with the Steelers, starting Week 16 vs. Minnesota and Week 17 vs. N.Y. Jets.

Dolphins tackle Dallas Thomas returned to field late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against New England. Thomas suffered an ankle injury earlier in the game and was questionable to return.

Meanwhile, Brandon Gibson and Rishard Matthews combined for five catches for 45 yards. Gibson caught three for 29 yards, while Matthews came down with two grabs for 16 yards. Brian Hartline was targeted twice and held without a grab.

Knot has appeared in 12 games for the Eagles in 2013, registering eight tackles. The Dolphins travel to New England Sunday.

Dolphins running back Lamar Miller failed to make much of an impact during Sunday's 41-13 defeat to New England in Week 15.

Miller carried the ball 16 times for 47 yards, averaging 2.9 yards per attempt. He caught just one pass for a gain of 10 yards.

Miller has been held under 60 rushing yards in six of his last seven games. He has 829 yards and six touchdowns on the ground this season. He'll have two games to surpass the 1,000-yard threshold for the first time in his three-year career, starting Week 16 vs. Minnesota and Week 17 vs. N.Y. Jets.

Dolphins tight ends Charles Clay and Dion Sims were labeled active for Sunday's divisional showdown against New England.

Sims, who is dealing with a neck injury, was not in danger of missing game action. He was ruled as probable heading into Sunday. Clay's activation comes as a bit of a surprise, as he was deemed as questionable with injuries to his knee and hamstring leading up to the game.

Dolphins linebacker Chris McCain (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's Week 15 matchup with the Patriots, the team announced.

McCain is primarily a special-teams contributor. He's played 44 snaps on defense this season, according to Pro Football Focus, and just one defensive snap since Week 8.

Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry was one of the few bright spots during Sunday's 41-13 loss to the Patriots in Week 15.

Landry was held out of the end zone for the third straight game, but nearly cracked the century mark. He caught eight of his 11 targets for 99 yards, averaging 12.4 yards per grab. He has 71 receptions for 672 yards and five touchdowns on the year.

Miami will host the Vikings in Week 16.

The Dolphins pass rush was held at bay in Sunday's 29-10 loss to the Bills, as the team ended up with no sacks in Week 2.

Linebackers Olivier Vernon and Cameron Wake combined for no sacks or tackles for losses in the game, and neither registered a quarterback hit either. Vernon racked up six tackles -- five solo -- while Wake had just one assisted stop.

The exceptions are wide receiver Brandon Gibson (hamstring), who is doubtful, and cornerback Cortland Finnegan (neck) and guard Shelley Smith (knee), who are questionable.

The team also labeled Charles Clay (knee, hamstring) and Cortland Finnegan (ankle) as doubtful. Daryn Colledge (back) and Lamar Miller (shoulder, knee) were deemed questionable.

Jenkins led the team with 14 tackles -- nine solo -- and Trusnik wasn't far behind, with 10 -- five solo. Neither accumulated any other stats in the 29-10 loss.

Finnegan has missed the Dolphins' last four games with an ankle injury. Chris McCain and Jamar Taylor are also questionable.

Tight end Charles Clay (hamstring, knee) was the only player on the report deemed questionable. He was a limited participant all week leading up to Sunday.

Meanwhile, Brandon Gibson and Rishard Matthews combined for five catches for 45 yards. Gibson caught three for 29 yards, while Matthews came down with two grabs for 16 yards. Brian Hartline was targeted twice and held without a grab.

The Dolphins have completed their series of cuts to pare down their roster to the league-mandated 53 heading into the regular season.

The dispatched offensive players are quarterback Seth Lobato, linemen Tony Hills, David Arkin, Sam Brenner and Evan Finkenberg , wideouts Kevin Cone and Matt Hazel, running backs Marcus Thigpen and Daniel Thomas and tight end Evan Wilson .

Among the defensive players let go are linemen Isaako Aaitui, Garrison Smith, Tevin Mims and D'Aundre Reed, linebacker Andrew Wilson and defensive backs Jordan Kovacs and Kevin Fogg. Placekicker Jake Rogers has also been waived.

A shakeup in the Dolphins secondary has landed Reshad Jones back as starting safety and Jimmy Wilson returning to the slot corner spot he played last year.

Jones worked with the first team Wednesday after serving with the backups earlier in the week, according to the Miami Herald. He had been suspended four games for violating the league drug policy. He might have taken longer to get back to his familiar role had usual slot corner Cortland Finnegan not missed practice with a neck injury

Wilson, meanwhile, feels fine in the slot. "I became real comfortable last year," Wilson said. "I played well. I feel like I was one of the best slot corners in the league last year. And it's not like I haven't been covering anyone one-on-one. I still do one-on-one every single day and all through camp."

The Dolphins have added a familiar face to its secondary. The team signed cornerback R.J. Stanford on Tuesday, according to the Palm Beach Post. Stanford spent part of the 2012 and the 2013 season with the Dolphins. He was waived by Cincinnati in the preseason and has yet to play in 2014.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said starting linebacker Dannell Ellerbe will be placed on injured reserve after suffering a hip injury Sunday against the Patriots, according to The Palm Beach Post. It is believed Ellerbe will be placed on season-ending injured reserve and not placed on short-term IR, which would allow him to return this season.

The Dolphins will sign Kelvin Sheppard to take Ellerbe's spot on the roster.

Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill surpassed the 300-yard threshold for the first time this season in Sunday's 41-13 defeat to the Patriots in Week 15.

Tannehill's only touchdown pass came on a desperation 32-yard pass to Mike Wallace, who made an acrobatic catch in the end zone with five seconds remaining in the first half. He was picked off by Duron Harmon in the second quarter and Patrick Chung in the third quarter. Tannehill completed 29 of 47 passes for a season-high 346 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He rushed for 21 yards on three carries.

Tannehill has passed for 3,390 yards with 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has two games left to surpass the 4,000-yard mark for the first time in his three-year career.

Miami will face Minnesota at home in Week 16.

The Dolphins placed running back Knowshon Moreno on season-ending injured reserve because of a torn ACL, the club announced Tuesday.

After leaving the Broncos for a one-year deal in Miami, Moreno struggled to make an impact and with injuries, also suffering a elbow issues as well. He played in only three games and in his final two rushed for only 14 yards on seven carries.

Lamar Miller will continue to be the Dolphins' primary back -- he leads Miami with 330 rushing yards -- with Daniel Thomas and Damien Williams also sharing carries.
