Dolphins tight end Charles Clay and cornerback Cortland Finnegan have been officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots. Clay, who was a limited participant all week, returned to action for the first time in two weeks against the Ravens last week. 

Finnegan has missed the Dolphins' last four games with an ankle injury. Chris McCain and Jamar Taylor are also questionable.

Guard Nate Garner, who missed practiced all week with an illness, is out as well as defensive tackle Anthony Johnson

Jelani Jenkins, Koa Misi and Jonathan Freeney are all doubtful. Walt Aikens, Dion Jordan, Dion Sims and Jimmy Wilson are all probable.

The Dolphins are "beyond encouraged, and pleasantly surprised" by left tackle Branden Albert's recovery from reconstructive knee surgery, reports the Miami Herald. The team is now optimistic Albert will be ready for the start of next season.

Albert ruptured the ACL and MCL in his right knee Nov. 9, and quarterback Ryan Tannehill was sacked 29 times without Albert protecting him the second half of the season. Barring a setback, the paper said, Albert is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2015 opener.

The Dolphins announced several roster moves on Tuesday, per the team's official website. The has placed offensive lineman Nate Garner and cornerback Jamar Taylor on the injured reserve list. In a corresponding move, the team signed center Sam Brenner and defensive tackle Deandre Coleman off the practice squad.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin is not hiding his disappointment with punter Brandon Fields, whose 43.3 gross average on punts ranks 31st out of 32 punters in the NFL, according to The Miami Herald. His net average is 31.8, which is the worst in the NFL.

"Early on we got the punt blocked in Buffalo," Philbin said. "He just hasn’t looked as comfortable quite yet back there, as he has in the two years that I’ve been here, the previous two years. I’m confident he’ll work his way through it and he’ll get back to being the outstanding punter that we all know.

"For his standards, it’s not quite what we’re used to. I think he would acknowledge that, but I’m very, very confident that he’ll get back to that soon."

Dolphins kicker Caleb Sturgis continued to struggle with long-distance field goals when he missed a 53-yard field goal during a 37-24 loss to the Jets Sunday.

Sturgis was able to make a 37-yard field goal attempt and made all three of his extra point attempts.

Dolphins cornerback Jamar Taylor underwent surgery for a torn labrum but expects to be fine for OTAs, reports the Miami Herald. Taylor played in 12 games this season, making 31 tackles.

The Dolphins backup pass catchers did little Thursday against the Bills.

Running back Damien Williams hauled in two passes, gaining 38 yards. Tight end Charles Clay managed five catches, but only gained 31 yards during the contest. Brandon Gibson had a mostly quiet game, finishing with just 13 yards, but one of his catches was a 7 yard touchdown. Dion Sims also caught two passes for 11 yards. 

They'll take on the Broncos Week 12.

Dolphins backup quarterback Matt Moore is headed for unrestricted free agency, and the team can't afford to pay him the $4 million he made this year, reports ESPN.com. Moore would love a chance to compete for a starting job -- something that won't happen in Miami.

"If there's a situation elsewhere that is intriguing, it might happen," Moore said. "I'm going to kind of feel my way through it."

Moore has started 25 games in his eight-year career, none since 2011.

Dolphins cornerback Walt Aikens was suspended for the season finale Sunday for missing a team meeting after he was involved in a domestic dispute at his Sunrise home, per WINZ-AM.

The report further claimed, per a source, that there was no physical violence with his girlfriend, but that his phone was smashed.

Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey wouldn't say Wednesday whether receiver Mike Wallace will be back with the team next season, reports the Palm Beach Post. Wallace, who's under contract for $9.9 million in 2015, got benched in the season finale for reportedly complaining to coaches about the game plan and his involvement in it.

Wallace tied his career high with 10 touchdowns but posted just 862 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Brandon Gibson and Rishard Matthews combined for five catches for 45 yards. Gibson caught three for 29 yards, while Matthews came down with two grabs for 16 yards. Brian Hartline was targeted twice and held without a grab.

Dolphins running back Lamar Miller surpassed 1,000 rushing yards during the Dolphins’ 37-24 loss to the Jets Sunday.

Miller came into the game needing 79 yards to reach 1,000 yards and surpassed it on a 97-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The run was the longest touchdown run in Dolphins’ history. Miller finished the game with a season-high 178 rushing yards on 19 carries. He was also targeted twice in the passing game, but failed to record a catch.

By surpassing 1,000 rushing yards, Miller became the first running back for the Dolphins to run for more than 1,000 yards since Reggie Bush in 2011. Miller accomplished the feat desite never receiving more than 19 carries in any game this season.

The Dolphins have privately indicated they want to re-sign impending free agent tight end Charles Clay and will make him an offer in coming weeks, reports the Miami Herald. Clay caught 58 passes for 605 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games this season.

Miami also is high on Clay's backup, Dion Sims, who's signed through 2016, the paper said.

Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry was one of the few bright spots during Sunday's 41-13 loss to the Patriots in Week 15.

Landry was held out of the end zone for the third straight game, but nearly cracked the century mark. He caught eight of his 11 targets for 99 yards, averaging 12.4 yards per grab. He has 71 receptions for 672 yards and five touchdowns on the year.

Miami will host the Vikings in Week 16.

The Vikings announced they added quarterback Chandler Harnish, receiver Donte Foster and safety Pierre Warren to the practice squad. Quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson was released from the squad.

Linebackers Olivier Vernon and Cameron Wake combined for no sacks or tackles for losses in the game, and neither registered a quarterback hit either. Vernon racked up six tackles -- five solo -- while Wake had just one assisted stop.

Jenkins led the team with 14 tackles -- nine solo -- and Trusnik wasn't far behind, with 10 -- five solo. Neither accumulated any other stats in the 29-10 loss.

Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan told reporters while cleaning out his locker during Monday's exit interviews that he doesn't need a position switch in 2015 in order to reach his potential, per ESPN.

"I'm a defensive end, man," Jordan said. "I will continue to do whatever they need me to do, whether it's covering a special-teams kick or blocking on a kickoff return or covering guys in space."

Defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle said prior to Week 17 that the team would consider moving him to outside linebacker next season. However, Coyle's job could be in jeopardy.  Jordan, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 draft, was suspended twice this season, which kept him sidelined for six games. He posted 20 tackles and a sack in 10 games.

Meanwhile, Brandon Gibson and Rishard Matthews combined for five catches for 45 yards. Gibson caught three for 29 yards, while Matthews came down with two grabs for 16 yards. Brian Hartline was targeted twice and held without a grab.

A shakeup in the Dolphins secondary has landed Reshad Jones back as starting safety and Jimmy Wilson returning to the slot corner spot he played last year.

Jones worked with the first team Wednesday after serving with the backups earlier in the week, according to the Miami Herald. He had been suspended four games for violating the league drug policy. He might have taken longer to get back to his familiar role had usual slot corner Cortland Finnegan not missed practice with a neck injury

Wilson, meanwhile, feels fine in the slot. "I became real comfortable last year," Wilson said. "I played well. I feel like I was one of the best slot corners in the league last year. And it's not like I haven't been covering anyone one-on-one. I still do one-on-one every single day and all through camp."

The Dolphins have added a familiar face to its secondary. The team signed cornerback R.J. Stanford on Tuesday, according to the Palm Beach Post. Stanford spent part of the 2012 and the 2013 season with the Dolphins. He was waived by Cincinnati in the preseason and has yet to play in 2014.

The Dolphins have privately indicated they want to re-sign impending free agent tight end Charles Clay and will make him an offer in coming weeks, reports the Miami Herald. Clay caught 58 passes for 605 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games this season.

Miami also is high on Clay's backup, Dion Sims, who's signed through 2016, the paper said.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said starting linebacker Dannell Ellerbe will be placed on injured reserve after suffering a hip injury Sunday against the Patriots, according to The Palm Beach Post. It is believed Ellerbe will be placed on season-ending injured reserve and not placed on short-term IR, which would allow him to return this season.

The Dolphins will sign Kelvin Sheppard to take Ellerbe's spot on the roster.

Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey said the team is excited about third-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill as the long-term starter, reports the Miami Herald. Tannehill set career highs this season in passing yards (4,045) and passing touchdowns (27) while throwing a career-low 12 interceptions.

"We're excited about what Ryan has brought to the Dolphins," Hickey said. "We're excited about his future with the Dolphins."

The paper said the team must decide whether to negotiate a long-term contract extension with Tannehill "or simply exercise a one-year injury guarantee option that extends Tannehill through the 2016 season."

Tannehill is due $660,000 in 2015, plus a $1.5 million roster bonus.

The Dolphins placed running back Knowshon Moreno on season-ending injured reserve because of a torn ACL, the club announced Tuesday.

After leaving the Broncos for a one-year deal in Miami, Moreno struggled to make an impact and with injuries, also suffering a elbow issues as well. He played in only three games and in his final two rushed for only 14 yards on seven carries.

Lamar Miller will continue to be the Dolphins' primary back -- he leads Miami with 330 rushing yards -- with Daniel Thomas and Damien Williams also sharing carries.
