Charles Johnson
News
Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner acknowledged Wednesday that Charles Johnson is "far and away our best receiver" on the roster, per ESPNCleveland.com.

Johnson was taken by Packers in the seventh-round of the 2013 draft but was never promoted from the practice squad. He left Green Bay for Cleveland in 2013 before Minnesota took him out of the Browns' practice squad in 2014. Under Turner, Johnson put together a breakout season, registering 58 targets, 31 catches and 475 yards. He racked up 415 of 475 receiving yards once he became a regular starter from Week 11 through the end of the season.

Shaun Hill
News
The Vikings made the signings of quarterback Shaun Hill and long snapper Cullen Loeffler on Wednesday, per the team's official website.

Hill, 35, played in Minnesota from 2002-05. He will be reunited with offensive coordinator Norv Turner, who he worked with in 2006 with the 49ers. Loeffler's entire 11-year career has been with Minnesota.

Justin Trattou
News
The Vikings announced several roster moves prior to Sunday's game against the Jets. The team placed rookie back Jerick McKinnon on injured reserve and elevated defensive end Justin Trattou from the practice squad. The team also added safety Ahmad Dixon to the practice squad.
Robert Blanton
News
Vikings running back Matt Asiata (foot) and wideout Greg Jennings (hamstring) are active for the game against Chicago after being listed as probable. They're among a slew of probables suiting up for Minnesota.

The list includes safety Robert Blanton (ankle), safety Antone Exum (knee), defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd (knee), tight end Chase Ford (foot), offensive tackle Michael Harris (foot), guard Charlie Johnson (ankle) and safety Andrew Sendejo (thumb). Wideout Jarius Wright is active after being questionable with a back injury.

Chad Greenway
News
Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway will play his 10th season with the team in 2015 but is unsure of whether he'll hang up his cleats at the end of the season, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

"I don’t know how it’s going to go," Greenway said Monday. "I’ll tell you I’m enjoying everything with the idea of, 'Who knows? We’ll see.' Ten years is sort of that unwritten (goal). Everyone wants to get there. We’ll see what happens."

Greenway ranked No. 38 out of 40 outside linebackers in a 4-3 scheme, per Pro Football Focus, but his teammates still see him as a pivotal part of the team.

"I love it," defensive end Everson Griffen said. "That’s a big leader. He was our defensive caller last year. When we didn’t have him in sometimes it was kind of rough to get the calls in, but having in him, he’s a big vocal point of our team. He’s a leader. He’s been here. This is his 10th season. So I’m happy the guy’s still here. I love him like a brother."

Greenway agreed to restructure his contract in late March to return to the Vikings for his 10th season.

News

Kyle Rudolph
News
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said tight end Kyle Rudolph "feels great," according to ESPN.

Zimmer saw his tight end last week, and was encouraged by Rudolph's progress. Rudolph was limited at the beginning of the year after hernia surgery, and then missed time late in the season due to ankle and knee issues. Rudolph has already stated that his goal for 2015 is to put his injuries behind him.

Rudolph hauled in 24 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns last year.

News
Vikings punt returner Marcus Sherels was shaken up on a punt after taking a shot from a Rams player Sunday.

The trainers looked at Sherels' side, but the team soon announced that he would return to action. The returner has yet to receive an opportunity to bring one back in the first half.

Everson Griffen
News

Patterson entered the contest listed as questionable due to a hamstring injury. He was not listed on the injury report on Wednesday or Thursday, but was limited in practice on Friday due to the issue. He'll attempt to play through it against Detroit.

The team will also have Jerome Felton, Everson Griffen, Jabari Price and Harrison Smith. All four players were listed as probable heading into the game.

Xavier Rhodes
News
When the Vikings selected Trae Waynes in the first round of the draft on Thursday, it was the second time in three years they've used a first-round pick on a corner.

The Vikings selected Xavier Rhodes in 2013, and it's only natural to consider pairing the two DBs.

"To get two young corners like that and you watch Chicago take the receiver from West Virginia, knowing the receivers that we face in Green Bay and knowing the receivers we face in Detroit," GM Rick Spielman said, per Vikings.com. "To have to young corners that I know this staff has done a tremendous job of helping our young guys. To get another young player on that side of the ball, especially a player at a position that is in Coach Zimmer’s wheelhouse. We are going to have to play some good defense and we were able to really improve last year, and I think adding a player like a Trae Waynes will definitely upgrade our defense."

That doesn't mean Waynes is guaranteed a starting spot. " I know we signed Terence Newman, and we have Captain Munnerlyn. We have Josh Robinson," Spielman said. "We have a lot of depth at corner right now. Corners take some time to develop, he is not going to be pushed into starting right away, that will be determined as we go through this offseason program, as we go through training camp, how quickly he comes along, but we also have the luxury with the depth that we have at the cornerback position and if he is ready, the coaches will determine when he is ready."

Coach Mike Zimmer was more aggressive. "I anticipate everybody to compete for a starting job," he said.

Chigbo Anunoby
News
The Titans dumped 20 players Saturday to pare their roster down to the required 53 for the regular season.

Tennessee cut the following players: T Jeff Adams, CB Ri'Shard Anderson, RB Antonio Andrews, DL Chigbo Anunoby, K Maikon Bonani, CB Tommie Campbell, TE Chase Coffman, LB Brandon Copeland, QB Dominique Davis, DE Marcus Dixon, LB Moise Fokou, WR Marc Mariani, G Justin McCray, FB Collin Mooney, OL Eric Olsen, T William Poehls, WR Rico Richardson, WR Brian Robiskie, TE Jason Schepler and CB Winston Wright.
Donte Foster
News
The Vikings announced they added quarterback Chandler Harnish, receiver Donte Foster and safety Pierre Warren to the practice squad. Quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson was released from the squad.
Mike Wallace
News
Vikings burner Mike Wallace has been in search of an offense that best fits his skill set since leaving Pittsburgh. He believes he has found one.

Wallace was stuck in a West Coast system in Miami, which resulted in two seasons with weaker numbers than he produced in his heyday with the Steelers. His 12.8 yards-per-catch average with the Dolphins was a far cry from the 17.2 he achieved previously. He caught 12 passes of 20-plus yards in Miami after snagging 44 in four years with Pittsburgh.

For a receiver that was clocked at 4.33 in the 40 in 2009, those statistics in Miami are unworthy of his speed. He is seeking a quarterback that can fire the ball downfield and will be given the freedom to do so. He is hoping it's Teddy Bridgewater. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner is vowing to cut the offense loose, which pleases Wallace.

"I think it's more so [like] my first four years, he told ESPN. "It's a vertical offense, [rather] than a short, West Coast offense. You go down the field a lot more here, more what I'm accustomed to."

Shamar Stephen

The Vikings signed first-round defensive end Anthony Barr and seventh-round defensive tackle Shamar Stephen to rookie contracts. Barr's four-year deal includes a fifth-year option and a $7.6 million signing bonus.

Antone Exum
News
The Vikings did not select a safety during last week's NFL Draft, which opens the door for second-year man Antone Exum to step in and produce, per the Pioneer Press

Exum, who was taken in the sixth round last year and only participated in 16 plays from scrimmage, could battle safety Robert Blanton for the position, but is willing to be either a strong or free safety.

"So whatever I'm asked to play, I will be ready," Exum said. "I take pride in work ethic and not being outworked, and this offseason I've been attacking."

Matt Asiata
News
Restricted free agent running back Matt Asiata will sign a one-year contract to remain with the Vikings, according to a report by Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The deal is believed to be incentive-laden with a salary below $1 million.
Tom Johnson
News
The Vikings were able to re-sign defensive tackle Tom Johnson on Sunday to a new contract, reports USA Today

Scheduled to be a free agent if he hit the market on Tuesday, the Vikings locked Johnson up to a three-year, $7 million deal with around $3 million in guaranteed money.

Johnson totaled 22 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks for the Vikings in 2014.

Adam Thielen
News
With the release of veteran Greg Jennings, the Vikings are moving forward with Jarius Wright as their slot receiver. "We're in good shape with Jarius Wright, and Adam [Thielen] has gotten some snaps there as well," offensive coordinator Norv Turner told KFAN 1003.

Wright, 25, caught a career-high 42 passes for 588 yards last season, with two touchdowns. He also rushed five times for 71 yards.

Thielen, 24, had eight catches for 137 yards and a touchdown.

News

News
The Vikings have released offensive lineman Charlie Johnson, the team announced Friday. Johnson has spent the last four seasons with Minnesota after coming over from the Colts in 2011.

The veteran only missed three games in his four seasons with the Vikings. He was due $2.45 million in base salary and has a $2.5 million cap hit for 2015. There is no dead money associated with the transaction.

Danielle Hunter
News
Vikings general manager Rick Spielman told reporters that Danielle Hunter is an Anthony Barr-type athlete and indicated that he could line up as a defensive end when on the field his rookie season.

"We looked at him as a defensive end and then when you watch his work out at the combine and you watch his work out at the pro day, he's an incredible athlete when we put him through drops and coverage," Spielman said, per the team's official website. "He is an Anthony Barr-type athlete, maybe not as fluid, but has the ability to do a lot of different things depending on how he develops and where our coaches see him."

The Vikings took Hunter in the third round with the 88th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Adrian Peterson
News
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said in a statement on Wednesday that his absence from OTAs has "nothing to do with wanting to be traded," ESPN reports.

"The reason I'm not attending OTAs has nothing to do with wanting to be traded. It's about securing my future with the Vikings. It's business, not personal and I understand that firsthand. Go Vikings."

It was reported earlier Wednesday that coach Mike Zimmer said that Peterson could "either play for us or not play." The running back has expressed frustration with team management for not showing him support during his legal case for child abuse.

Joe Berger
News
The Vikings have re-signed offensive lineman Joe Berger to a two-year deal, ESPN.com reports.

"He's excited to be able to play in the new stadium (the Vikings will open in 2016)," his agent, Tom Tafelski, said. "It's a great organization, a great sports city, a great quality of life. We're excited we got it done."

Berger started nine games at right guard last season. He could compete for a starting role next season depending on what else the team accomplishes in free agency and the draft.

Blair Walsh
News
Vikings kicker Blair Walsh said that he's discussed a contract extension with the team, per the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Walsh said there's been "a little bit of communication" about a new deal.

"I would love to stay a Viking," he said. "This is the team that drafted me and put that faith in me to be an NFL kicker. But at the same time, I’ve had a Pro Bowl year here, I’ve had success and there’s been a lot of long attempts that we’ve made, so the numbers are going to have to be right for both of us. But when it comes down to it, I hope I can stay with the Vikings."

Brandon Bostick
News
The Vikings have claimed former Packers tight end Brandon Bostick, the team announced on Wednesday.

The 6-foor-3, 250-pound tight end was waived by Green Bay on Monday, about a month after his mistake on an onside kick allowed the Seahawks to come back and win the NFC Championship Game. Bostick spent two seasons with the Packers and registered nine catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns. With the addition of Bostick, the Vikings now have five tight ends on the active roster (Kyle Rudolph, Rhett Ellison, Chase Ford, Ryan Otten).

John Sullivan

The status of Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is up in the air, and while the veteran may not have interest in returning to Minnesota, center John Sullivan made it clear Thursday's night in an interview on Sirius XM NFL Radio Thursday night that the Minnesota players want Peterson back, Pro Football Talk reports.

"We want him back. There is no doubt the players want him back," Sullivan said. "He missed an entire season. He more than paid his dues with this whole thing. I respect him as a man. I don’t want to talk too much about it just because I don’t want to put too much conjecture out there but I just hope it works itself out and he comes back and joins us. We have open arms here waiting for him. We want to rush for the 2,500 yards that he talked about a couple of years ago."

The league reportedly filed an appeal in the Peterson case Wednesday to preserve the disciplinary powers of commissioner Roger Goodell. Peterson met with Goodell Tuesday, but an official decision on his reinstatement has yet to be announced.

"There's no doubt in my mind I can last the season," McKinnon said. "If that's something I have to prove, that's not a big deal for me. I'll prove it this year. I'm just really excited to get back out there with my teammates and coaches and show how far I've come since surgery."

Terence Newman

Cordarrelle Patterson
News
Mike Zimmer has expressed optimism that underachieving Vikings wideout Cordarrelle Patterson is gaining a better understanding of route-running and the nuances of playing the position in the NFL, which would allow his talent to result in greater productivity.

Patterson took a step back in 2014 after a mediocre rookie year. He played in every game, but managed just 33 receptions for 384 yards and one touchdown. He has since stated that 2015 is his make-or-break year and is apparently acting like it in the offseason.

"He's done real well," Zimmer told Fox Sports North. "He's running routes good. He's working hard. So we just need him to continue to do those things and continue to keep getting consistent and keep improving. I've been impressed."
