He's expected to help the Vikings overcome the loss of veteran Antoine Winfield, who signed with Seattle after being released in the offseason. Adrian Peterson News The ESPN radio affiliate in Minnesota reports that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is participating in team drills Wednesday during OTA workouts about four months after sports hernia surgery. The report says there's no live contact in OTAs, but it appears "he's full go" in this setting. "I'm pretty much 100 percent," Peterson said. "Me knowing my body, I would like to be a little stronger in some areas. But I'm feeling great." Peterson said he "definitely earned a lot more respect for your abdominal muscles" and has been ramping up his weight training after initially gearing exercises to reduce pressure on the area. Injury Hernia - Probable for start of training camp Benny Sapp News Minnesota DB Benny Sapp posted a season-high six tackles -- all solo stops -- during the Vikings' 35-32 loss to Denver in Week 13. The 6-foot-3, 297 pounder was a highly regarded lineman coming out of high school when he headed to Gainesville and made the All-SEC team as a freshman with 23 tackles including 6.5 for loss. The numbers only went up from there as Floyd ended his career with 4.5 sacks, 26 tackles for loss and 115 total tackles while lining up all over the defensive line. Joe Webb News Vikings coach Leslie Frazier told the ESPN Radio affiliate in Minneapolis that he hopes quarterback-turned-receiver Joe Webb can improve his route running enough in the coming weeks so that he can contribute more in training camp. "I was talking to him today about one of the toughest parts of the transition is just the route-running part," Frazier said. "He has very good hands. He knows the offense very well. He's actually helping some of the young guys in where to line up at. (The hope is) he'll be able to grasp the route running part of it fast enough to give himself the best chance to go out and really have a chance to make the transition smoothly when we get to training camp. Wright, who was targeted five times, led Minnesota in receiving in the victory. Jones (6-foot-1, 234 pounds), who had 17 tackles for loss and four sacks for Elon last season, participated in the team's rookie minicamp recently on a workout basis. Banyard has signed with the team as a rookie free agent after the draft. Greg Childs News Vikings receiver Greg Childs has indeed suffered two torn patella tendons in his knees, ending his rookie season prematurely. Surgery is expected soon. Childs appeared to sustain the injury while going up for a pass near the endzone and landing hard toward the end of Saturday's practice. He was carted off the field. You hate to see any player go down for any reason, and Greg has struggled with injuries, as we know, in college, said Frazier on Saturday. He collected 10, including nine solo, in the contest. He has now recorded double-digit tackles in two of his last three games. His climb to become a big-time receiver will take longer with so many nuances of the position still to be learned and the Vikings, in turn, needing to find the simplest ways to get him the ball initially." Christian Ponder News During the early part of the offseason, the Vikings repeatedly expressed their confidence in quarterback Christian Ponder. That stance has not changed even with the signing of Matt Cassel earlier this month. "Christian Ponder is our starting quarterback. Matt knows that; he knew it when we went through the acquisition," coach Leslie Frazier told the team's official website. "If something were to happen to Christian injury-wise, we have a quality backup who can step in and do a great job for us. Christian just needs to continue to improve just like we all expect him to, but hes our starting quarterback."
