Greg Jennings
News
After meeting with new coach Mike Zimmer and new offensive coordinator Norv Turner, Vikings receiver Greg Jennings "quickly got a sense of how prominently [Cordarrelle] Patterson would be featured in the Vikings' offense," reports ESPN.com.

Jennings then let Patterson know he should prepare for a major role.

"I wanted him to know that, coming in, the expectation of you is no longer 'rookie.' It's, 'You gotta go. We saw what you can do. We're gonna showcase this,'" Jennings told the website. "For me, it was making sure that he understands that he has to be a professional. He has to be a pro's pro when he steps foot in this building, because we're expecting (him) to give us what we've seen you put out there."

Patterson finished his rookie year strong, with three receiving and three rushing touchdowns in his last five games.

Derek Cox
News
The Vikings agreed to terms with free-agent defensive back Derek Cox on a one-year deal Thursday, according to U-T San Diego. Financial terms for the deal are not yet known.

Corey Wootton
News
Former Bears defensive lineman Corey Wootton is staying put in the NFC North. The 26-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, according to his agent on Twitter.

Wootton had surgery on his right hip in January, but is expected to be fully healthy by July. He had 34 tackles, five passes defended, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble in 2013.
Jerome Simpson
News
The Vikings have "four solid options" at receiver and have bigger draft needs than wideout, reports the Minneapolis StarTribune. The paper expects the team to pass on receivers in the draft, then add one from the deep pool of undrafted free agents.

Greg Jennings, Cordarrelle Patterson, Jerome Simpson and Jarius Wright project as the team's top four wideouts.

Chad Greenway
News
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Chad Greenway is a realistic option to start at middle linebacker, reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

" It's a possibility. We keep working him in there," Zimmer said. "We're just trying to find the best 11 players we can and then figure out where the rest of the guys are going to fit. It’s not out of the question, but time will tell a little bit more on that."

Zimmer was a strong-side linebacker last season for the Vikings.

Rudolph has lost about 15 pounds and is expecting a bigger role this upcoming season. His 2013 season was cut short because of a broken left foot. He caught 30 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns in eight games last season.

Turner added preseason games will factor "heavily" into the team's decision on a starter.

Matt Asiata
News
The Vikings could draft a running back in the NFL Draft to help take the load off Adrian Peterson, reports the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

The report says the team is looking for a replacement for the departed Toby Gerhart and give Peterson a rest from time to time.

"He's getting to the point where you don't have to give him the ball 50 times a game for 16 games," said general manager Rick Spielman. "Adrian's the face of our franchise, but Norv (Turner) has a history of having two backs to keep him fresh, because I think it's very important as you go through the season that they're still strong in Week 16 and they're still strong when you get into the playoffs."

Minnesota doesn't have a surefire No. 2 back on the roster. Matt Asiata filled in for the injured Peterson and Gerhart in two games last December and performed admirably with 166 yards on 44 carries (a 3.8 average). But Asiata, entering his third season, is still raw.

After that, Minnesota has just Joe Banyard and Bradley Randle on the roster. They've mostly been practice squad players.

Adrian Peterson
News
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson sounds thrilled with the change in offensive coordinators from Bill Musgrave to Norv Turner.

"This is what I've been looking for the past seven years," Peterson told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "And now I feel like we have an offense that fits our talent and what we have as far as the players at their positions and what they're able to do. I'm pretty excited for what Norv Turner is putting in for us. It's putting guys in opportunities to make plays and be more versatile as an offense. So I'm stoked about that."

Peterson said it's refreshing to play in an offense that's unpredictable.

"Not to take anything away from the coaches we had before, but just being more versatile as an offense," he said. "I just call it what it is. I feel in the past, we were predictable. You guys wrote stories about being predictable in the past seven years. You won't be able to write that story this year. That's pretty much all that I'm saying. You won't be able to do that because this offense is so versatile."

John Sullivan
News
Vikings defensive end Jared Allen (back), running back Matt Asiata (shoulder), tight end Rhett Ellison (ankle), defensive tackle Fred Evans (knee, shoulder), linebacker Chad Greenway (wrist), defensive tackle Letroy Guion (chest), linebacker Michael Mauti (knee), defensive end Brian Robison (neck) and center John Sullivan (concussion) were all cleared to play Week 12 at Green Bay. Everyone was listed as probable except Mauti, Robison and Sullivan, who were questionable.
Matt Kalil
News
Vikings left tackle Matt Kalil won't participate in the team's minicamp this week, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Kalil played through a back injury last year and also hurt his shoulder.

Kalil insinuated he had surgery, saying that he got "cleaned up" and calling it "not a big deal."

Jerick McKinnon
News
Everyone knows that the Vikings' run game will revolve around Adrian Peterson. But the Minneapolis Star Tribune writes that rookie Jerick McKinnon will compete for playing time in camp this summer, likely as a pass-catching running back.

McKinnon didn't do a lot of that in college at Georgia Southern but looked great running routes and showing off nice hands during OTAs and minicamp. McKinnon's usage will depend on a number of factors, including how often the team will want to spell Peterson. There's also a chance, per the paper, that McKinnon and Peterson could be on the field at the same time.

Joe Banyard
News
Vikings fullback Rhett Ellison and running Joe Banyard both made small contributions on offense Week 16 at Cincinnati. Ellison had two catches for 22 yards, and Banyard had one for 11.

Ellison's only other two catches this year came Week 12 against the Packers. Banyard hadn't recorded a catch all season.

Allen Reisner
News
The Vikings announced the signing of tight end Allen Reisner on Tuesday. Reisner spent 2011 and 2012 with Minnesota before signing with the Jaguars last year following his release.
Rhett Ellison
News
Vikings TE Chase Ford, WR Jarius Wright, WR Jerome Simpson and TE Rhett Ellison were limited Week 17.

Ford led the group, with five receptions for 43 yards. Wright had 31 yards on two catches. Simpson gained 29 yards on three receptions. Ellison had one catch for 13 yards.

Harrison Smith
News
When the Vikings hired Jerry Gray to coach their defensive backs, they added a guy who made a very big imprint on both Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor, the Seahawks' dynamic safety duo. Now Gray believes he can do the same thing with Harrison Smith, the Vikings' best safety.

"We're going to get him more involved," Gray said per ESPN. "He'll be blitzing some. He'll be covering some. He'll be in the middle of the field. The thing that we're trying to do right now is, figure out what he's best at, and then put him in that position. Can he be one of the better safeties in the league, doing what we're teaching him here?"

Smith missed half of last season with a turf toe injury but still had 58 total tackles and a pair of interceptions.

Zach Line
News
The Vikings announced Monday they placed fullback Zach Line (undisclosed) on injured reserve. Line started one of three games for Minnesota, totaling one catch for 8 yards.
Mistral Raymond
News
The Vikings enter Week 6 against the Panthers with a clean bill of health, as their inactive list Sunday features all healthy scratches.

Newly acquired quarterback Josh Freeman headlines the list, and is joined by offensive lineman Jeff Baca, linebackers Audie Cole and Gerald Hodges, defensive back Mistral Raymond, and defensive linemen Chase Baker and Justin Trattou

Jasper Brinkley
News
The Vikings will sign free agent linebacker Jasper Brinkley to a one-year deal, reports Fox Sports. Brinkley, 28, appeared in 15 games for the Cardinals last season after spending his first four seasons with Minnesota.
Cordarrelle Patterson

Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, who dealt with a foot injury early in camp, is practicing Wednesday, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Patterson is working in team drills so he's apparently not limited in any way.

Linval Joseph
News
Vikings defensive tackle Linval Joseph is not participating in the team's mandatory minicamp as he recovers from January shoulder surgery. Joseph told ESPN.com that the team knew about the surgery when it signed him to a five-year, $31.5 million contract in March.

Joseph was able to do individual drills during OTAs and said he's picking up the defensive scheme. "I feel like I'm not too far behind," he told the website. "I'm just waiting until the start of training camp, to show what I can do."

Christian Ponder
News
Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder isn't given much chance of beating out Matt Cassel or rookie Teddy Bridgewater, but coordinator Norv Turner said Ponder is making progress in the new offense.

"Christian Ponder, I know people like to beat up on him, but I've been impressed with Christian," Turner said, per the team's website. "With his physical ability and the way he's worked and the progress he's made. He's eliminating a lot of the negative plays."
