News
The Vikings have announced that the following players will be inactive for Sunday's game against the Rams: quarterback Christian Ponder, cornerback Shaun Prater, fullback Zach Line, lineback Michael Mauti, linebacker Brandon Watts, guard David Yankey and tight end MarQueis Gray.

Ponder is the team's third quarterback behind starter Matt Cassel and rookie first-round pick Teddy Bridgewater.

Greg Jennings
News
Vikings wide receiver Greg Jennings led his team in receiving Sunday, catching six passes for 58 yards and a touchdown in his team's 34-6 blowout win over the Rams.

Jennings managed a great grab in the back of the end zone to put the Vikings up 13-0 late in the first half, and the Vikings cruised in the second half behind an excellent performance by the defense. Jennings didn't score his first touchdown last season until the team's fourth game. He'll face a tougher test in Week 2 when the Patriots come to town.

Corey Wootton
News
Former Bears defensive lineman Corey Wootton is staying put in the NFC North. The 26-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, according to his agent on Twitter.

Jerome Simpson
News
Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson could not get a three-game suspension handed down by the NFL for a DUI reduced. The league has confirmed the suspension, per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Simpson contributed 48 catches for 726 yards and one touchdown last season, but faded after a strong start. He racked up nearly half of those yards in the first four games.

Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph caught two passes for 16 yards and scored a touchdown in his team's 34-6 win over the Rams Sunday.

Rudolph caught two of his four targets in Week 1, with his fourth-quarter touchdown helping to salt the game away. He beat his 16-yard total three times in the preseason and will likely have bigger performances down the road. Rudolph will look to reach the end zone again when he squares off with the Patriots in Week 2.

Marcus Sherels
News
Vikings punt returner Marcus Sherels was shaken up on a punt after taking a shot from a Rams player Sunday.

Matt Cassel
News
Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel completed 17 of his 25 pass attempts for 170 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception in his team's 34-6 blowout win over the Rams Sunday.

Cassel leaned on the rushing attack early but started to pick up chunks of yardage in the second quarter, finishing with an eight-yard touchdown to Greg Jennings late in the first half to make it 13-0. His second touchdown later in the game went to tight end Greg Rudolph in the fourth quarter.

While some will have an eye on when first-round pick Teddy Bridgewater will take over under center, the blowout victory should loosen the leash on Cassel as the starter. He faces a tough stretch moving forward, starting with a Week 2 home matchup with the Patriots.

Walsh hit both his field goals early, putting his team up 6-0 early in the second quarter before being limited to extra-point duty over the remainder of the game. He went 7 for 11 from 40-plus yards last season after making 17 of his 19 attempts from that distance in his rookie year. Walsh will get his first taste of the outdoors in Week 2 when the Patriots come to play on the Vikings' temporary home field.

News
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Wednesday he doesn't intend to have a quick hook with starting quarterback Matt Cassel. The veteran beat out rookie Teddy Bridgewater for the starting quarterback job this summer.

"We've gone seven, almost eight weeks now where we feel this is the way we want to go," Zimmer said, per 1500ESPN.com. "If we throw an interception the first play of the game, I'm not going to yank [Cassel]. I have to go on the OTAs and everything we've seen from there.

"I know the fans are excited about Teddy. I'm excited about Teddy. But we have to do what's best for the football team at this point, and what's best for the future -- and as you know, coaches' futures aren't necessarily very long. Cordarrelle Patterson
News
Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson was used on two jet-sweep plays during a 34-6 win Week 1 against the Rams. While it was an interesting wrinkle to the offense, offensive coordinator Norv Turner did his best Thursday to temper expectations about using trick plays on a weekly basis, per The Star Tribune.

"Those plays I think when they happen are exciting and they’re great; you can’t count on those," Turner said. "A guy like Cordarrelle is capable of doing that with his physical ability."

Patterson said he's familiar with the jet sweep from his college days. However, he said he isn't sure if he will get carries on a weekly basis.

"You just can’t focus on one guy," Patterson said. "Like me, I might not get no (touches) or no kickoff returns this week. It really don’t matter to me as long as my team’s successful and as long as we win. We know we’re going to be good. You can’t worry about yourself all the time, you’ve got to think about your team."
