The Saints signed offensive lineman Senio Kelemete to a one-year contract extension on Monday.

Kelemete confirmed the news on his personal Twitter account, writing, "Just signed another 1 year deal with the @Saints #GloryToGod for the opportunity 2015 is my year!"

Kelemete appeared in 10 games for the Saints in 2014. Before this one-year extension, Kelemete was set to be an exclusive-rights free agent.

Brandin Cooks

Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who missed the final six games of his rookie season due to thumb surgery, has already been hard at work rehabbing the injury, according to FOX Sports.

"I've been cleared for three weeks," Cooks said in a telephone interview. "I've been catching balls, lifting weights and getting back into it. I'm looking forward to hitting it really hard right after the Super Bowl ends."

Cooks finished the 2014 season with 53 catches for 550 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 73 yards and one touchdown.

"I feel like I had an all right season," Cooks said. "Unfortunately, I had to end my season a little short, but for the time that I played I thought I got better every game and got used to the NFL each week.

"I'm completely confident in my abilities and there's no question about it. This work that I'm going to put in during the offseason will be huge for next year. I can't wait to get out there and be a playmaker."

With the Saints trying to get under the league's salary cap by March 10, the team has reached out to guard Jahri Evans to rework his contract, sources told The Times-Picayune.

Evans' cap hit for the 2015 season would be $11 million and with the Saints at least $20 million over the cap, the team was prepared to release Evans to gain flexibility. The two sides are now trying to rework a deal to keep Evans in a Saints uniform.

The Saints declared defensive back Corey White, wideout Seantavius Jones, defensive back Stanley Jean-Baptiste, linebacker Moise Fokou, nose tackle Lawrence Virgil, offensive tackle Nick Becton and linebacker Ronald Powell inactive for Monday's game at Chicago.

It's the first time all season White has been inactive. He's a healthy scratch despite starting nine games and racking up 52 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a sack.

The Saints have re-signed kicker Shayne Graham and outside linebacker Parys Haralson to league minimum contracts for 2015, reports NOLA.com.

Graham, who is entering his 15th season in the league, will earn $970,000 and Haralson, entering his 10th season, will earn $870,000.

Graham went 19 of 22 on field goals in 2014 with a long of 50 yards and also went 46 of 47 on extra points. Haralson totaled 35 tackles for the Saints in 2014 with three sacks.

Saints free safety Jairus Byrd tweeted that he just got officially cleared for the 2015 season. Byrd underwent surgery last October to fix torn meniscus in his knee.

Byrd, 28, has missed 17 games over the past two seasons. He made the Pro Bowl in 2009, 2012 and 2013 with Buffalo before signing a six-year, $54 million deal with New Orleans.

The Saints are expected to be $20 million over the salary cap, the worst position of any team in the NFL. Despite that, head coach Sean Payton doesn't expect to save money by asking Drew Brees to take a pay cut.

Speaking with the media at the Indianapolis scouting combine on Thursday, Payton said, ""I don't think that's something that's going to be happening anytime soon"

Payton said he didn't think Brees or his agent had spoken to Saints GM Mickey Loomis about doing anything to reduce the quarterback's cap hit, which is expected to be $26.4 million in 2015.

Veteran Saints linebacker Parys Haralson is hoping to finish his career on Bourbon Street. He isn't planning on retiring after this season, but he wants to remain with the tea m until his career comes to a close, according to NOLA.com.

"I like being with the Saints, so hopefully that will be my last stop whenever it's time for me to retire," Haralson said. "Maybe the Saints will be the last team I play with and I'll retire as a Saint. I'm not saying it'll be my last stop in the NFL, but I just don't want to be that guy that goes another year here, another year there, and then retires."

Haralson played all 16 games in 2014, totaling 35 tackles with three sacks. He also said he enjoys playing for defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

"I'm not going to lie, I love playing for Rob, and knowing that he was going to be back, is something that I was fired up about," Haralson said. "Knowing that he was going to be back was like a plus."

The Saints have placed running back Pierre Thomas and defensive end Akiem Hicks on injured reserve and promoted Jerry Franklin and Brandon Coleman from their practice squad.

Thomas played a limited role in Week 16 against the Falcons, catching just two passes for 24 yards, before injuring his ribs and leaving the game. 

He finishes the year with 45 carries for 222 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Despite the fact that New Orleans is $22 million above the salary cap, Saints coach Sean Payton expressed optimism about the team's chances of re-signing free agent running back Mark Ingram, per The Advocate.

“I spoke with him today," Payton told the paper Monday nght. "The good thing about Mark is that we’re real close with his agent. We work a lot with Joel (Segal). [GM] Mickey [Loomis] will talk with him quite a bit. Obviously he’s someone that we want to keep. Hopefully we can do that.”

In 13 games last season, Ingram ran for 964 yards and nine touchdowns while catching 29 passes for 145 yards.

According to NFL.com, it's unlikely the Saints can afford to bring back Ingram.

Jairus Byrd and Erik Lorig have been ruled out for the contest. The team also made eight players probable. Terron Armstead, Marcus Ball, Jonathan Goodwin, David Hawthorne, Curtis Lofton, Patrick Robinson, Benjamin Watson and Corey White should all play.

Saints wide receiver Robert Meachem could see his first action in four weeks Monday against the Bears. Meachem, who has been dealing with an ankle injury, last played on Oct. 30 against the Panthers. 

After New Orleans released Joe Morgan Tuesday, the team promoted rookie Seantavius Jones to the active roster. 

The final wide receiver on Monday is likely to be between Meachem and Jones. 

"I just have to be ready to play my role when coach calls my number," Meachem said.

Saints tight end Orson Charles will enter a diversion program after pleading guilty to wanton endangerment in a road rage incident, according to CBS affiliate WKYT.

Last April, Charles was accused of pointing a firearm at another driver on a Madison County, Ky. road. As part of the diversion program, Charles must check in with a parole officer once a month via telephone. If he has no other run-ins with the law, this charge will be dropped from his record. 

Charles spent most of the 2014 season on the Saints' practice squad.

Charles was a former fourth-round pick in the 2012 draft by the Bengals. A standout tight end in college at Georgia, Charles was moved to fullback in Cincinnati before being released prior to the 2014 season.

Tackle Terron Armstead is the lone injured player on the inactive list released by the Saints for their Week 17 game against Tampa Bay. He is dealing with a neck issue that prevented him from practicing all week.

The healthy scratches are wide receiversSeantavius Jones and Brandon Coleman, cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste, linebackers Jerry Franklin and Moise Fokou and safety Kenny Vaccaro.

The inclusion of the embattled Vaccaro is not a good sign for the 2013 first-round pick.

Including his signing and workout bonuses, Graham will count $11 million against the cap next season. He caught 85 passes for 889 yards with 10 touchdowns in 2014, marking his fourth straight season with at least 85 receptions.

The Saints have been in contract discussions with cornerback Patrick Robinson and are hoping to reach an agreement on a deal, a source told The Advocate.

Robinson can become a free agent March 10 if no deal is reached. The former first-round pick has spent his entire five-year career with the Saints. In 2014, he produced 39 tackles and two interceptions.

Saints quarterback Luke McCown signed a one-year deal for the $970,000 league minimum, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He'll compete with Ryan Griffin to back up Drew Brees.

He could be cut if he does not accept a lower salary. Colston played in every game this season, catching 59 passes for 902 yards and five touchdowns. He struggled to separate from man coverage, and his role diminished with the emergence of rookie Brandin Cooks and second-year pro Kenny Stills.

Saints wideouts Marques Colston, Kenny Stills and Nick Toon combined for 192 receiving yards in a losing effort Sunday against Atlanta.

Colston led the way with a team-high six catches on 10 targets for 80 yards. Stills finished as the team's second leading receiving, posting six catches for 68 yards on eight targets. Toon cracked the 40-yard mark again with three catches for 44 yards in a 30-14 defeat.

New Orleans will end their 2014 campaign against Tampa Bay in Week 17.

"When you lose a guy that has produced at that high of a level and don't have an immediate replacement planned for him, you're going to struggle at times when those crucial situations," Colston said. "When you know exactly the matchup you're going to get, the look you're going to get and what you're going to get out of that player--when you don't have that, and it's kind of an unknown, it kind of makes game planning that more difficult."

Saints defensive backs Keenan Lewis and Kenny Vaccaro both said Tuesday they want defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to return in 2015.

"I want him back," Lewis told The Times Picayune. "I'm going to ride with him. He's a great coordinator. You just can't blame him when things go wrong. We're the ones out there playing." 

Vaccarro also said "Rob will be here."

The Saints are currently 29th in passing yards allowed at 261.5 per game and 29th in rushing yards allowed per game at 129.5 per game. As a team, they are 31st in overall defense.
