The Giants suffered a bad break when receiver Hakeem Nicks broke a bone in his foot during a late May OTA. That means Nicks won't be ready to even practice until mid-August, opening the door for receivers Rueben Randle, Ramses Barden and Domenik Hixon to see some extra reps with the first-team offense. Hixon is coming off of two ACL tears in as many years, while Barden has fought inconsistency since being drafted in 2009.

Knee - Questionable for start of training camp

The Giants waived safety Chad Jones because of a failed physical, the team announced. Jones was the team's third-round pick in 2010, but he severely injured his leg in a car accident in Louisiana before his first training camp with the Giants and consequently has never appeared in an NFL game. Jones had been hoping to return to the team but was declared unable to participate in a recent rookie minicamp. Giants general manager Jerry Reese still considers the former LSU star a "part of the Giants family," adding, "we'll continue to work with him in his rehab." Jones thanked the Giants through his agent, Rocky Arceneaux.

Former Patriots cornerback Antwaun Molden has agreed to terms with the Giants, ESPN reports. Molden appeared in every game for New England in 2011 and took 25 snaps in the Super Bowl against New York, Reiss wrote. Molden adds depth at CB after the loss of free agent CB Aaron Ross.

The Giants have released QB Ryan Perrilloux from the practice squad to make room for DE Justin Trattou. Trattou played with the Giants in Week 1, but was released to make room for WR Brandon Stokley. The practice squad is now without a QB and the Giants only carry two on the 53-man roster.

Giants DL/LB Mathias Kiwanuka totaled two solo tackles in Week 16 against the Jets. The two tackles were a season-low. He has 79 tackles on the season.

Giants defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora, who is owed $3.975 million this year, is still looking for a new contract. He expects the Giants to handle his situation, one way or another, in the near future. "We've had preliminary discussions, but we haven’t had any serious talks as far as a contract extension or a trade,"’ Umenyiora said Wednesday. "I think things will probably heat up pretty soon."

The New York Giants have taken North Carolina State defensive tackle Markus Kuhn with their final pick in the NFL Draft. Kuhn, who is German and speaks three languages, had 45 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks this season for the Wolfpack.

Randle, the Giants' second-round pick, is a big receiver like Nicks and might really benefit from working with Eli Manning between now and August. Randle had 53 catches this past season for 917 yards and eight touchdowns.

With the Giants cutting ties with veteran rusher Brandon Jacobs, there's already speculation that the team could give second-year rusher Da'Rel Scott a chance to work in tandem with Ahmad Bradshaw when camp opens. General manager Jerry Reese said as much during the combine, according to the New York Post. The former Maryland Terrapin has had some success in college (5.8 yard average as a senior) and in the preseason (touchdown runs of 97 and 65 yards).

Indianapolis placed DB Stevie Brown on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday after he left the Colts' Week 12 contest with a quadriceps injury. Brown signed as a free agent with Indianapolis in mid-September.

Quadriceps - IR. Out for the season

David Carr and the Giants tentatively reached their agreement last week but needed time before announcing it. It is for one year, and $925,000. "I've said it before, these guys, you play ball in high school, you play ball in college and there's really not a better locker room that I've been in, and that's including those times," Carr said. "It's a great environment. Guys keep you humble. They keep it loose. No one takes themselves too seriously, and with all the egos and all the good football players, you'd think that would be a problem. But there's really not that issue in this locker room. That's why I like to be a part of it. It makes it very easy to come back."

Giants DB Corey Webster totaled seven solo tackles, one interception and two pass defenses in Week 16 against the Jets. He now has an interception in two straight games and a career-high six on the season.

The Giants placed rookie DL Marvin Austin (pectoral) on IR. He had surgery Tuesday morning to fix a torn pectoral muscle.

If Nicks is slow to recover, defenses will clamp down on Cruz and make it tough for him to put up big numbers from week to week.

The Giants traded for linebacker Keith Rivers, giving the Bengals a fifth-round pick in exchange. A wrist injury kept him sidelined for all of 2011.

Among the players cut were LB Phillip Dillard, LB Adrian Tracy, QB Ryan Perrilloux, RB Andre Brown and Charles Scott, TE Christian Hopkins, WR Darius Reynaud, DEs Ayanga Okpokowuruk, Craig Marshall, Alex Hall and Justin Trattou and Dwayne Hendricks and DBs Joe Burnett, David Sims and Jerrard Tarrant. TE Daniel Coats, DT Gabe Watson and K Rhys Lloyd.

Giants LB Michael Boley recorded a team-high 11 tackles, including 10 solo stops, during New York's 21-17 victory over New England in Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday night. It was the third time overall this season Boley has posted double digits in tackles. He also tallied a pass defended.

Giants DL Jason Pierre-Paul recorded a sack in his fourth straight game in Week 17 against the Cowboys. He finished with five tackles and brought down QB Tony Romo once in the 31-14 win. Pierre-Paul finished the regular season with a career-high 16.5 sacks.

The Giants added cornerback Jayron Hosley in the third round of the NFL Draft. The Virginia Tech standout had 59 tackles and three interceptions this past season, a campaign in which he was bothered by a hamstring injury and concussion issues. He's also been dealing with a drug issue -- he failed a drug test at the combine. Coach Tom Coughlin described Hosley as a competitive, feisty, physical player who many times has been matched against an opponent's top receiver. He said the team was aware of his drug issue and has spoken to him about it. "We believe we can work with him and he's willing to overcome any issues that he has," Coughlin said.

The Giants selected Cincinnati tight end Adrien Robinson with a fourth-round pick. Robinson had only 12 catches and three scores in 2011 and caught just 27 passes in his career with the Bearcats. He does have good size (6-foot-5, 267 pounds) and has been known for his blocking.

Giants DB Kenny Phillips totaled one solo tackle, one interception and two pass defenses in Week 16 against the Jets. He now has four interceptions on the season and two in his last two games.

The Redskins cut down to the league-mandated 53 layers on Saturday. Among the released hopefuls were WR Isaac Anderson, LB Horatio Blades, NT Anthony Bryant, QB Kellen Clemens, TE Tony Curtis, RB Shaun Draughn, LB Thaddeus Gibson, QB Matt Gutierrez, S Chris Horton, LB Edgar Jones, CB Reggie Jones, WR Aldrick Robinson, S Anderson Russell, TE Derek Schouman, S Davonte Shannon, DE Jeff Stehle and DE Doug Worthington.

The Giants spent three picks in Round 6 in April's draft on defenders: Michigan State LB Greg Jones, Iowa safety Tyler Sash and USF linebacker Jacquian Williams.

Giants running back Andre Brown is appealing his four-game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs, claiming he simply failed to inform the league of his adderall prescription. He is preparing as if he'll play in Week 1. "Hopefully when the appeal process goes through, I'll be happy with any games (taken off the suspension)," he said. "I'd be fine with two (games off)."

Suspended - Eligible to return Week 5 vs. Cleveland

The Giants have signed cornerback Dante Hughes to replace cornerback Brian Witherspoon, who tore his ACL for the second time in as many years on Wednesday. Witherspoon was waived/injured. Hughes spent two seasons with the Colts and three with the Chargers before trying out at the Giants rookie mini-camp two weeks ago. Hughes' best season came last year when he had 42 tackles and three passes defensed for the Chargers.

Knee - Expected to be out for the season

Giants coach Tom Coughlin previously said CB Prince Amukamara was fatigued at the end of Sunday's loss to the Packers. However, Amukamara told reporters Monday afternoon that he was sitting in the fourth quarter because he rolled his ankle and his surgically repaired foot was sore. The rookie says he still plans on practicing Wednesday in prep for Week 14 at Dallas.

Giants rookie MLB Greg Jones has now jumped from the third-team defense to a starting role in just a few days. MLB Phillip Dillard was cut on Saturday, which elevated Jones to the second-team defense, and now that MLB Jonathan Goff (knee) is likely done for the season, Jones will likely get the nod on Sunday against the Redskins. The Giants could also bring in a veteran linebacker while easing Jones into the starting lineup.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said that DE Justin Tuck had shoulder surgery after the Super Bowl. Tuck said on Twitter that he's fine and expects to be ready for the start of the season.

Shoulder - Probable for start of training camp

DE Jimmy Wilkerson, who injured his knee in Friday's preseason game against the Raiders, was one of three players placed on injured reserve Saturday along with TE John Carlson and WR Isaiah Stanback.

Undisclosed - IR. Out for the season

Giants general manager Jerry Reese told SiriusXM NFL Radio that he expects tight end Travis Beckum to begin the 2012 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Beckum tore his right ACL in the Giants' Super Bowl win.

Knee - Doubtful for start of regular season

ESPN reports that a source familiar with the broken bone in Hakeem Nicks' foot says the receiver might miss four-to-six weeks recovering from the injury and not the 12-week timeframe the Giants said on Thursday. Nicks fractured the fifth metatarsal of his right foot during an OTA practice. The team is hoping to have him back at some point during training camp and the preseason.

Foot - Questionable for start of training camp

Giants DB Antrel Rolle totaled seven solo tackles in Week 16 against the Jets. He is up to 88 tackles in 15 games.

According to ESPN.com, the Giants are expected to bring back tight end Bear Pascoe in 2012. Pascoe is a restricted free agent, but the Giants will need him with Jake Ballard (knee) and Travis Beckum (knee) both suffering torn ACLs in the playoffs.

The Giants have cut DB Seth Williams from their practice squad.

Giants LB Jacquian Williams was credited with two tackles in Week 6 against Buffalo. He also managed a pass defensed.

Giants LB Mark Herzlich left Week 12 against the Saints in the third quarter due to an ankle injury. He said X-rays on his injured ankle were negative. He also said there's no swelling in the ankle, but it is sore. Herzlich finished with three tackles before being forced from the game.

The Giants selected Virginia Tech running back David Wilson with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2012 draft, and he will be the No. 2 running back in New York behind Ahmad Bradshaw. Wilson will replace the departed Brandon Jacobs, who is now in San Francisco.

The Sports Xchange reports that an MRI revealed a torn ACL for Giants LB Clint Sintim. He hurt his knee in Thursday's preseason finale against the Patriots. On Thursday it was reported that he suffered a ruptured patella tendon.

Knee - IR. Out for the season

Giants rookie LB Spencer Paysinger left Week 13 against the Packers due to a hamstring injury. Paysinger sustained the injury in the first quarter and did not return to the contest. He did not record a tackle prior to leaving the game.

The Giants placed DB Justin Tryon on injured reserve Monday after breaking his arm Week 8 against the Dolphins.

Arm - IR. Out for the season

The Jets waived the following players Saturday: TE Josh Baker, LB Matthias Berning, WR Michael Campbell, WR Dan DePalma, DT Jarron Gilbert, RB Chris Jennings, LB Eddie Jones, S Byron Landor, CB Ellis Lankster, LB Joey LaRocque, WR Scotty McKnight, S Davon Morgan, CB Julian Posey, LB Brashton Satele, WR Patrick Turner, DE Lorenzo Washington, QB Drew Willy, S Tracy Wilson and TE Keith Zinger.

The Giants waived DT Dwayne Hendricks on Monday to make room for DT Jimmy Kennedy. Kennedy is coming off a four-game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs.

Virginia Tech running back David Wilson was the first-round pick of the Giants, bolstering their running back corps. Wilson offers plenty of variety after rushing for 1.627 yards and nine touchdowns last season with the Hokies, adding 21 grabs for 126 yards and another score. He's also worked returning kickoffs, scoring on two of his 22 returns in 2010 (none on 20 returns in 2011). Wilson collected 4,349 all-purpose yards and scored 25 touchdowns in only three seasons at Virginia Tech.

Giants RB D.J. Ware suffered a concussion in his team's Wild Card game against the Falcons. He had one carry for 4 yards and one catch for 13 yards before leaving the game.

Giants CB Michael Coe will need shoulder surgery and will be gone for the season, coach Tom Coughlin said on Monday. Coe re-injured his shoulder Week 11 against the Eagles.

Shoulder - IR. Out for the season

Giants tight end Martellus Bennett had to ice his hamstring during practice Wednesday but doesn't see the injury becoming an issue. "I've just been a little sore," he said, adding that he's been running on it hard the past few weeks. Bennett added that he's learning the new terminology with the Giants. It's familiar, but certain words have a different meaning than in Dallas, his former team.

The Giants signed free-agent defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to a contract Thursday. Rogers is a former three-time Pro Bowl player who was recently released by the Saints. He's butted heads on behalf of the Lions and Browns in addition to the Saints. He played in all 16 regular season games with four starts and was credited with 22 tackles (14 solo). Rogers also played in the Saints’ two postseason games. "I'm kind of honored and I appreciated them holding me in a regard enough to put me in along [their quality defensive linemen]," Rogers said. "Those guys are most definitely top-notch pass rushers, defensive linemen right now, especially in their prime. I'm just happy to be a part of that group, those guys are going to help me out and hopefully I can help them out. Hopefully, we can be another Super Bowl champion. You get an opportunity to join an organization of this caliber with lofty goals and a great track record, you go ahead and do that. Hopefully, I can bring some of my experience over the past few years and just fit in and play a part."

Giants K Lawrence Tynes converted both field-goal attempts and his lone extra point during New York's 21-17 victory over New England in Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday night. Tynes converted kicks of 38 and 33 yards -- both in the third quarter -- to finish with multiple field goals for the third consecutive playoff game.

The Sports Xchange reports that LB Zak DeOssie (back) will not be able to participate in two-a-days until he receives approval from the medical staff.

Notable cuts made by the Broncos on Saturday include: WR David Anderson, DE Jeremy Beal, CB Brandon Bing, LB Alvin Bowen, DT Ronnell Brown, CB Perrish Cox, WR Britt Davis, WR D'Andre Goodwin, TE Dan Gronkowski, K Steven Hauschka, DT Jeremy Jarmon, RB Jeremiah Johnson, S Kyle McCarthy, WR Greg Orton, DT DeMario Pressley, WR Eron Riley, LB Lee Robinson, TE Dante Rosario, RB Austin Sylvester and QB Adam Weber.

The Giants drafted DT Linval Joseph in the second round of the NFL Draft at No. 46 overall. Joseph, from East Carolina, is 6-foot-5, 328 pounds and will look to help the Giants improve their run defense.

Giants DL Chris Canty, who was a half sack on the season, was credited with his first full sack in Week 4 against the Bears. He finished with five tackles and was credited with two tackles for a loss in the 17-3 victory.

The Giants have re-signed middle linebacker Chase Blackburn, a key to their run to last season's Super Bowl title. Also a special teams leader, Blackburn was out of football last year until late November, when the Giants brought him back following injuries to other linebackers. His steady play culminated in an interception of Tom Brady's pass in the 21-17 Super Bowl win.

Giants rookie WR/PR Jerrel Jernigan was taken in for X-rays on his wrist late in the fourth quarter after being injured Thursday night in the preseason finale against New England. Prior to getting hurt Jernigan had one catch for 14 yards and one carry for minus-6 yards.
