Geno Smith
News
The Jets have been doing their due dilligence in scouting college quarterbacks leading into the draft, but current starter Geno Smith plans on maintaining that position. He claims he's not even thinking about potential competition.

"You have to expect anything," he told the New York Daily News. "I believe this is my team. I go out there and I work hard and I try to lead the guys the best way that I can. ... I don't listen to the outside noise. I don't think it's important at all. I don't think it motivates me. I'm motivated by the fact that we need to win."

So is new coach Todd Bowles, who wants his quarterback taking that mental approach.

"If you look at what we draft instead of worrying about what you can do, you're going to lose your spot," Bowles said.

The interest in college quarterbacks, however, is based on Smith's inability so far to help the Jets become a consistent winner. He performed better down the stretch last year, however, completing 66 percent of his passes for 1,001 yards and six touchdowns with just two interceptions in his last four games combined. The Jets won two of those games.

Erin Henderson
News
The Jets signed linebacker Erin Henderson to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Henderson did not play during the 2014 season after being released by the Vikings following two DUI arrests. Henderson considers himself a recovering alcoholic.

"I understand it's an ongoing battle, a lifelong thing," he said. "For me, it's nothing different than when I came to the Vikings as an undrafted free agent. Once I get to a team and get on a roster, I trust myself and believe myself. It's just a matter of somebody going out on a limb and trusting me."

Sheldon Richardson
News
Jets defensive end Sheldon Richardson is skipping the team's OTAs this week, a decision that earned him criticism from fans and media.

Richardson's explanation isn't likely to win anyone over.

Richardson went on Twitter and told fans he missed the workouts because, "I have a life outside of football."

"I chose to enjoy my family a little longer," he continued. "So to (you) fans that know everything, please worry 'bout yourself."

Richardson pointed out in another tweet that he "jus' wasn't at practice," but that he was still "putting in work tho'"

Darrin Walls
News
Jets wide receiver Percy Harvin (rib) and center Nick Mangold (ankle) are the most notable players listed as questionable for Sunday's season finale at Miami. Defensive lineman Damon Harrison (illness), safety Jaiquawn Jarrett (shoulder), safety Dawan Landry (illness), cornerback Darrin Walls (shoulder) and defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson (toe, illness) joined Mangold and Harvin as questionable for Sunday.

Meanwhile, the following players were deemed probable: Safety Antonio Allen (hand), guard Willie Colon (knee), kicker Nick Folk (right hip), running back Chris Ivory (hamstring) and running back Chris Johnson (knee).

Safety Rontez Miles (shin) was the only player on New York's final injury report of the season ruled out for Sunday.

Matt Simms
News
Jets coach Todd Bowles is a fan of competition.

Instead of being content with quarterbacks Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Matt Simms competing for the starting job, Bowles, via the Newark Star-Ledger, said the team has plans to add a fourth signal caller to the mix

Bowles said this on a conference call with season-ticket holders.

"Ryan's going to compete, as well as Geno's going to compete," Bowles said. "And we hope to add somebody else to help compete with that along with Simms."

That could mean many things, such as adding a veteran quarterback, a mid-to-late-rounder or someone looking to get back in the league. Or perhaps it's a sign the Jets want to take a quarterback — possibly Marcus Mariota — with the sixth overall pick if the opportunity arises.

Keith Lewis
News
The Buccaneers made a slew of moves Saturday to pare their roster down to the required 53 for the regular season.

Tampa Bay cut the following players: DB Marc Anthony, LB Nate Askew, OL Edawn Coughman, CB Kip Edwards, DE T.J. Fatinikun, CB Anthony Gaitor, LB Ka'Lial Glaud, CB Keith Lewis, OL Jamon Meredith, OL Andrew Miller, FB Lonnie Pryor, OL Jeremiah Warren, K Connor Barth, DE Larry English, RB Jeff Demps, QB Mike Kafka and SS Major Wright.

Damon Harrison
News
Nose tackle Damon Harrison said Wednesday that he had signed his offer sheet with the Jets, meaning the restricted free agent is signed through the 2015 season on a one-year, $2.35 million contract, per NJ.com.

The move was not a surprise, considering Harrison has been working out with the team during voluntary camps. He tallied 30 solo tackles last season for New York.

Saalim Hakim
News
The Jets listed defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.

Wilkerson has missed the last three games with a toe injury and was a limited participant all week at practice.

Also listed as questionable on the Jets’ final injury report of Week 16 were wideout Saalim Hakim (quad) and safety Jaiquawn Jarrett (shoulder). Safety Rontez Miles (shin) is out.

The Jets listed the following players as probable: Antonio Allen, Willie Colon, Nick Folk, Percy Harvin, Chris Johnson, Nick Mangold and Calvin Pryor.

IK Enemkpali
News
The Jets declared running back Bilal Powell (illness), quarterback Matt Simms, offensive tackle Dakota Dozier, receiver Walt Powell, defensive back Josh Thomas, center Wesley Johnson and linebacker IK Enemkpali inactive for the game against the Bills in Detroit. Bilal Powell's absence means the Jets have three running backs active: Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson and John Conner.
Zac Stacy
News
Disenchanted running back Zac Stacy has been traded from the Rams to the Jets, a source has told ESPN. Details have yet to be revealed, though the return on the deal is considered to be minimal.

The last straw for Stacy was the first-round draft of Todd Gurley. Stacy had fallen behind Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham on the depth chart a year ago. After starting 12 games and rushing for 973 yards in 2013, he started five games and rushed for 293 yards last season.

The Jets have struggled to find a featured back in recent years. Chris Ivory led the team with 821 yards in 2014.

Quinton Coples
News
Jets linebacker Quinton Coples is excited about the changes in New York this season. Coples expects to see a role change in New York's defensive scheme with new coach Todd Bowles at the helm, according to NJ.com.

"Well, I won't be jamming receivers," Coples said, comparing Bowles' defense to former coach Rex Ryan's system. "I won't be guarding the No. 1 receiver. That's a big change. Other than that, a lot more rushing. I'll be going against the quarterback a lot. I will be dropping [into pass coverage] a little bit, as well, but a lot more going forward [with rushing the quarterback]. They don't need me in coverage anymore, as you guys can tell."

Coples totaled 35 tackles in 2014 with 6 1/2 sacks and one forced fumble.

Demario Davis
News
The Jets enter Week 9 against the Chiefs relatively healthy. Out of 15 players listed on the injury report, Darrin Walls (calf, knee) was ruled doubtful for Sunday.Geno Smith (shoulder) was labeled questionable.

The other 13 players were deemed probable: Oday Aboushi (shoulder), Phillip Adams (groin), Antwan Barnes (knee), Willie Colon (knee), Jeff Cumberland (shoulder, finger), Demario Davis (finger), Eric Decker (hamstring), David Harris (shoulder), Chris Johnson (ankle), Jeremy Kerley (illness), Nick Mangold (shoulder), Trevor Reilly (knee) and Greg Salas (wrist, ankle).

Stevan Ridley
News
Running back Stevan Ridley has officially agreed to terms with the Jets, the team has confirmed, per NJ.com. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. He joins a crowded backfield that includes Bilal Powell, Chris Ivory and Daryl Richardson.

Ridley, who tore his ACL last October, managed two 100-yard performances for New England before getting sidelined. He peaked in 2012 with 1,263 yards on 290 carries.

Defenders now gone are linemen Kourtnei Brown, Matt Conrath and Deantre Harlan, defensive backs Christian Bryant, Darren Woodard, Avery Cunningham and Greg Reid and linebackers Aaron Hill, Etienne Sabino, Phillip Seward and Lawrence Wilson.

The Rams also placed wideout Stedman Bailey on the reserved/suspended list.

Trevor Reilly

Kevin Vickerson
News
Kevin Vickerson took to Instagram to announce that he is headed to the Jets, per Time Warner Channel in Kansas City.

Vickerson, 32, spent the 2014 season with the Chiefs where he registered nine tackles in 15 games (one start). The veteran defensive lineman has tallied 120 tackles, 12 passes defensed, one interception and two forced fumbles over his eight years in the NFL.

James Brewer
News
The Jets and guard James Brewer have agreed to a one-year deal, sources told Newsday.com.

Brewer spent the last four seasons with the Giants where he served in a limited role, playing in only two games last season.

Brewer was a rookie on the Giants' Super Bowl XLVI team.

Cornerback Dee Milliner (quad) is the lone doubtful on the injury report released Friday by the Jets for their Week 4 clash against Detroit.

They'll all visit the Vikings in Week 14.

Marcus Gilchrist
News
Jets safety Marcus Gilchrist will be limited due to a shoulder injury until training camp, reports nj.com.

Gilchrist could be held out for all or most of the team's on-field workouts during organized team activities and minicamp. The same report stated that he should be ready to go by training camp.

The 26-year-old started all 16 games for two consecutive seasons for the Chargers before being acquired by the Jets this offseason. Last season, Gilchrist had 76 total tackles, one sack, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one interception

Antonio Allen

Eric Decker
News
Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is set to become a free agent in March, unless he agrees to a contract extension or Denver uses the franchise tag on him. If he does become a free agent, former teammate Eric Decker hopes Thomas would consider joining him on the Jets roster.

Decker spent a few days in Arizona this week with Thomas filming a commercial.

“I’ve been pushing for the entire year now,” Decker said in a telephone interview with The New York Post. “It was just another opportunity to talk to him about it. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens. I think it would be tough for Denver to let him go. So whether they franchise-tag him here in the next month or give him a long-term deal, he’s just one of those premier players in this league.

"If he happens to make it to free agency, I would love to sign him because playing alongside him for four years and especially the last two years made it a lot of fun and made it a lot easier. He’s just one of the great players in this league.”

Thomas recorded a career-best 1,619 receiving yards in 2014. It was his third straight season of 1,000-plus receiving yards. He also had at least 10 touchdowns for a third straight season.

Tommy Bohanon
News
The Jets placed fullback Tommy Bohanon on injured reserve, ending his season. He'll undergo surgery for a broken collarbone.
Ryan Quigley
News
On Monday the Jets waived or released the following players: WR Joe Collins, S Donnie Fletcher, G Patrick Ford, T Trey Gilleo, S Bret Lockett, RB-KR Joe McKnight, G Stephen Peterman, LB Sean Progar-Jackson, P Ryan Quigley, WR Marcus Rucker, LS Patrick Scales, RB Chad Spann, WR K.J. Stroud and WR Rahsaan Vaughn.
Chris Owusu
News
A hamstring injury has landed Jets wideout Greg Salas on injured reserve just days after he scored his first touchdown of the season in the Monday night loss to Miami.

Salas, whose score was on the ground and had not caught a pass since Week 6, finishes the year with just eight receptions for 167 yards.

The Jets have promoted fellow wide receiver Chris Owusu from the practice squad to take his place on the active roster.

Oday Aboushi
News
Jets wideout Eric Decker, who was probable with a toe injury, is active for Monday's game against the Dolphins.

All the other Jets who were probable also are active, including guard Oday Aboushi (shoulder), linebacker Antwan Barnes (knee), guard Willie Colon (knee), running back John Conner (groin), defensive end Leger Douzable (ankle), linebacker David Harris (shoulder), safety Jaiquawn Jarrett (calf), center Nick Mangold (shoulder), defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson (low back) and quarterback Michael Vick (wrist, illness).

T.J. Barnes
News
Jets wide receiver Percy Harvin has been declared inactive for Week 17’s game against the Dolphins.

Harvin is nursing a rib injury he suffered during Week 16’s game against the Patriots.

Also listed as inactive are T.J. Barnes, Jaiquawn Jarrett, Wesley Johnson, Nick Mangold, Walt Powell and Matt Simms.

Michael Vick
News
The Eagles rejected a trade that would have sent wide receiver Josh Gordon from Cleveland to Philadelphia in exchange for quarterback Nick Foles, according to ESPN.

The Browns allegedly made the offer prior to the 2013 season. At the time, Gordon was set to face a two-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Foles was recently named the team's backup behind Michael Vick

Chip Kelly, who was in his first year as the Eagles' head coach, reportedly had some concerns about Gordon's suspension, but was also high on Foles.

While both players produced in 2013, Gordon has continued to get himself in trouble with the league. Foles had a bit of a down year in 2014, but played in just eight games after a collarbone injury.

Foles is expected to head into next season as Philadelphia's starter. Gordon has been suspended for the entire season after testing positive for alcohol in a recent drug test.

Deon Simon
News
The Jets have announced three signings of 2015 draftees, including quarterback and fourth-rounder Bryce Petty.

Also in the fold are third-round selection and linebacker Lorenzo Mauldon and seventh-rounder and defensive tackle Deon Simon.

Quincy Enunwa
News
The Jets announced a pair of roster moves on Saturday, per the team's official website. The team placed safety Rontez Miles on injured reserve with a shin injury. In a corresponding move, the team elevated wide receiver Quincy Enunwa from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster.
Antonio Cromartie
News
Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, entering his 10th year, said he's over the hip problems that dogged him during his last season with the team, 2013, reports The Star-Ledger. Cromartie played a full season for the Cardinals last year.

"It's behind me," Cromartie said of his hip injury. "It was just something that I did during training camp [in 2013], just strained my hip flexor real bad and it just bothered me the whole entire year. I just feel I had the offseason [before the 2014 season] to go in and rehab, and get my hips back strong. Even near the end of the 2013 year, I was starting to play better, because my body was starting to feel better. It was just having the time to have rehab go on, and go from there."

Cromartie signed a four-year deal with the Jets. He's part of a revamped secondary that includes corners Darrelle Revis and Buster Skrine.

Leonard Williams
News
The Jets announced that they have signed rookie defensive end Leonard Williams to his contract on Friday.

Williams was the Jets' first-round selection at the sixth overall pick. Many analysts regarded Williams as the best overall player in this year's NFL draft.

According to ESPN New York, Williams' contract is for four years and worth $18.6 million

Bryce Petty
News
The Jets have announced three signings of 2015 draftees, including quarterback and fourth-rounder Bryce Petty.

Also in the fold are third-round selection and linebacker Lorenzo Mauldon and seventh-rounder and defensive tackle Deon Simon.

Jeff Cumberland
News
Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland found the end zone for the second time this season in his team's loss to the Patriots in Week 16.

Cumberland came down with a 20-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. He caught three of five passes thrown his way for 43 yards and a score in a 17-16 defeat. He has 224 receiving yards this season.

New York will face Miami in Week 17.

Stephen Bowen
News
The Jets signed defensive end Stephen Bowen to a contract, the team announced on Tuesday.

Bowen has spent his entire career in the NFC East with the Cowboys and Redskins. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2006 and signed with Dallas. After five years with the Cowboys, he signed with the Redskins and spent four seasons before being released this offseason.

In his nine-year career, Bowen has totaled 168 tackles and 12 1/2 sacks.

Darrelle Revis
News
Jets All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis will turn 30 this summer but says he's a better player now than when he was younger, reports NJ.com.

"You know what? I think I'm better than I was before, when I played earlier in my career," Revis said at the Jets' voluntary veteran minicamp.

The Jets brought Revis back as a free agent this past offseason and the veteran believes he's also a smarter player now than his first stint in New York.

"I think I'm way more intelligent in the position. I had a great learning experience last year with [Patriots head coach] Bill [Belichick]. He helped me in a lot of ways," Revis said. "I've seen the game a different way. But at the same time I think just the growth, of me growing as a player, and growing as a man has helped me tremendously.

D'Brickashaw Ferguson
News
Free agent tackle Corey Hilliard is expected to meet with the Jets, per Pro Football Talk.

Hilliard has played eight seasons in the NFL, the last six with the Lions.

Rontez Miles
News
Jets safety Rontez Miles is lucky to have another chance in the NFL. A freak injury last season almost took this opportunity away, per ESPN.com.

Just before Miles was to make his 2014 debut last December, he suffered what appeared to be a basic calf bruise after a collision with teammate Marcus Williams. He soon realized this was no regular injury. Miles developed compartment syndrome, meaning the blood flow to his calf was restricted because of a buildup of pressure.

Miles was rushed to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

"It could've been amputated or the muscle could've been destroyed," Miles said after Wednesday's organized team activities. "It could've been a couple of months or a year or so of recovery, and it would've been hard to come back from that."

Miles has been fighting for a spot on the Jets' roster for the better part of two years. He played in one game in 2013 and was ready for another chance last season before his freak injury. His goal will be even harder now because the safety position is now very crowded, but that won't deter Miles.

"Hey, I can't complain," Miles said. "I'm here and I'm playing football."

The Jets will end their 2014 campaign in Miami.

Chris Ivory
News
Although there's a good chance the Jets will release running back Chris Johnson, running back Chris Ivory still could face a smaller role due to Chan Gailey's offense, reports ESPN.com.

Gailey's spread attack "puts a premium on a running back who can play in space and catch the ball," the website said. "That could mean a smaller role for Ivory."

Ivory (6-0, 222 pounds) is entering the final year of his deal. He played 42 percent of the snaps last season, compared to 37 percent for Johnson, per the website.

ESPN.com says the "ideal fit" for the Jets would be impending free agent C.J. Spiller, who had his best year, 2012, playing for Gailey in Buffalo.

Chris Johnson
News
Free-agent running back Chris Johnson recently said he'd love to join the Cowboys. Though the Cowboys aren't in any rush to add another running back, Johnson isn't too far off the team's radar.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was asked about Johnson in a conference call with season-ticket holders. Via the team's website, Jones said the team has at least some interest in Johnson

“We haven’t visited with Chris, and we can’t talk about him because he’s a free agent. But right now we’re looking at the guys that we have on our roster,” Jones said. “He is somebody that is on a short list of ours that we think could ultimately come in and do some good things for us if we asked him to. But I wouldn’t say it’s a priority right now.”

After running for 2,006 yards in 2009, Johnson has been unable to live up to expectations since. With the Jets a year ago, Johnson only totald 663 yards and one touchdown while notching just one start.

Jets tight end Jace Amaro struggled mightily in his rookie year, dropping six of 52 passes thrown his way, the highest drop percentage of any tight end with at least 10 catches, reports ESPN.com. But the website said if offensive coordinator Chan Gailey employs his spread attack, it will benefit Amaro because he played in a similar offense at Texas Tech.

Devin Smith
News
Jets rookie Devin Smith is a burner. And burners often thrive as kick returners. But the second-round pick out of Ohio State won't get that chance - at least for now.

Special teams coach Bobby April has made that pronouncement. He has been serving in that capacity in the NFL since 1991 and he believes that speedy, unproven rookies should not be given that responsibility.

Smith returned just six kicks for the Buckeyes - one as a freshman and five as a sophomore. That's not enough of a track record for April.

"Any time you've got a rookie that hasn't done it, and you're saying, 'Let's give it a try,' it's usually not a good combination," he told NJ.com. "And your tries can end up losing you games. You almost have to know.

"Now, will there be mistakes? Of course. But if you're saying, 'Let's see if he can do it,' boy a lot of people have [tried that]. You see a lot of openers with a lot of rookies back there every year. Keep looking backward in time, a team or several teams have done that, and by Game 4, that experiment didn't work."

While other teams have inquired about trading for Milliner, the Jets "are content waiting for the third-year player to get healthy to properly evaluate him," the report said. The ninth overall pick in 2013, Milliner has played 16 games over two seasons, recording 62 tackles and three interceptions.

Jermaine Cunningham
News
Jets linebacker Jermaine Cunningham pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges he shared explicit photos of a female friend, reports the Associated Press. Cunningham also pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal mischief and unlawful weapons transport.

The charges stem from a Dec. 29 incident at his apartment in Summit, N.J. According to prosecutors, it's a domestic violence case in which Cunningham is accused of spreading sexual images and destroying another person's clothes. Authorities also say they found a loaded handgun in Cunningham's Audi.

Cunningham was released without bail and scheduled to appear in court again March 5.

Cunningham’s lawyer told Judge Joan Robinson Gross that a temporary restraining order has been issued against his client and an application for a permanent order is pending in family court, according to The Star-Ledger, which had no further details about the restraining order.

The Jets were without defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson and wide receiver Brandon Marshall at the team's voluntary organized team activities on Wednesaday, per nj.com.

Wednesday marked the second day of the Jets' 10-day voluntary workout program. Marshall was present on the first day but Richardson was not.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said Marshall was absent on Wednesday because he "had something to take care of, but "it wasn't conveyed" to him why Richardson was not there.

Richardson was the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2013 and is projected to play a key role on the Jets' defense.

The 25-year-old has 196 total tackles and six interceptions for his career.
