Seahawks WR Kris Durham, who was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, needs surgery to repair a torn labrum, coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday. "He’s had a labrum tear that he’s been dealing with for a long time and it just needs to be fixed," he said.

The signing of running back Tyrell Sutton to a futures contract could serve notice that changes may be in store at the running back spot for Seattle. The Sports Xchange notes that Seahawks general manager John Schneider is familiar with Sutton; he was in Green Bay when the Packers signed the running back out of Northwestern as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2009. Sutton was released during final cuts, and signed with Carolina, where he remained until being released at the beginning of the 2011 season. Sutton played in 16 games for the Panthers, starting one game at fullback. He finished with 25 carries for 139 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. At 5-8 and 211 pounds, Sutton is described as a tough runner who has excellent hands as a pass catcher out of the backfield. And he has a similar skill set to Justin Forsett, who served as Seattle's third-down back last season and will be an unrestricted free agent.

Seattle LB K.J. Wright had a big Monday night Week 14 in a win over the Rams. Wright finished second on the Seahawks in tackles with eight. The linebacker added a sack of QB Sam Bradford in the contest. Plus, three of Wright's tackles went for losses and he had one pass defended in the game.

Seahawks WR Ricardo Lockette was able to find the end zone for the first time this season in Week 17 against the Cardinals. Lockette was on the receiving end of a 61-yard strike from Tarvaris Jackson in the third quarter. It was his lone catch and target in the 23-20 defeat.

The Seahawks tried to get closer to their final 53 players on Monday by cutting eight players. Among the casualties were receivers Pat Williams, Brandon Smith and Chris Carter, cornerback Jesse Hoffman, linebacker Neal Howey, guard Zach Hurd, fullback Ryan Travis and defensive tackle Teryl White.

Seattle placed DB Ron Parker on injured reserve on Tuesday due to an undisclosed injury. Parker's season is over for the Seahawks.

Seahawks DB Kam Chancellor had six tackles, including five solo, Week 15 at Chicago. He also forced a fumble in the contest. It was his seventh straight game with less than seven tackles. He had seven or more in four of his first six games.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports that Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin talked about avoiding a sophomore slump after leading the team in receptions last season. Baldwin had 51 catches for 788 yards and four touchdowns for Seattle, becoming the first undrafted rookie free agent to lead his team in receptions and receiving yards since Bill Groman for the American Football League’s Houston Oilers in 1960. “One of my biggest things I keep hearing from people is not to have a sophomore slump,” Baldwin said. “One of my biggest things right now is to be perfect every day. Right now I’m working on my third perfect day with no drops and no missed assignments. So, not at all, I think I have so much more to prove and so much more I’m capable of.” Baldwin would like to prove he’s a complete receiver and not a person who can only play in the slot. Seattle general manager John Schneider said he’s more concerned with Baldwin growing into his role as one of the best slot receivers in the game. “He can play outside, but he can be a dominant inside player,” Schneider said. “He’s got a real natural feel for sitting down in a zone, stemming guys and breaking off outside. He’s got really quick hands, and real long arms.”

Seahawks RB Michael Robinson made a rare offensive contribution Week 15 at Chicago, catching a short lob from QB Tarvaris Jackson and taking it 2 yards into the end zone for his first touchdown of the season. It was his only catch on the day, and he didn't have a rushing attempt.

Seahawks DL Chris Clemons continued to pile up the sacks Week 15 at Chicago, picking up two to give him 11 for the season. He had three tackles in the contest, including two solo.

Defensive tackle Red Bryant agreed to terms on a new contract with the Seahawks on Tuesday, keeping their unique, 325-pound defensive end from bolting out of town. ESPN.com reported Bryant agreed to a $35 million deal over five years with $14.5 million in guarantees. Bryant transformed into one of Seattle's most valuable defensive players after appearing on his way out of the NFL after the 2009 season. It was after that season that Carroll arrived in Seattle and decided to implement a slightly different defensive scheme where Bryant was shifted from defensive tackle to defensive end. Bryant quickly flourished playing the "5" technique on Seattle's defensive line, where his main responsibility was to be a space-eating run stuffer and hold the point of attack on the defensive edge.

Seahawks RB Leon Washington was able to find the end zone for the first time this season in Week 17 against the Cardinals. Washington was able to break free on a 48-yard scamper in the the third quarter, capping off a three-play, 74-yard scoring drive. He finished with 78 yards rushing on seven carries in the 23-20 defeat, while also hauling in two receptions for 12 yards.

Seahawks WR Ben Obomanu was not much of a factor in Week 15 against the 49ers. He finished with 20 yards on two catches in the catch in the 19-17 defeat. He was targeted twice on the afternoon.

The Seahawks official team website reports that rookie running back Robert Turbin, a fourth-round draft choice from Utah State, has already showed he can catch the ball out of the backfield. If he’s able to pick up the blitz as a blocker, Turbin could be the third-down back, in addition to complementing leading rusher Marshawn Lynch. “Too early to tell,” coach Peter Carroll said when asked about Turbin replacing Justin Forsett as the third-down back. “That’s stuff that has to be determined. He has not had to block a lot in pass protection, but I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t. He’s perfectly suited to do that and he didn’t look far off, technique-wise. So he’s just got to get guys roaring downhill at him and we’ll see.”

The Bengals have acquired CB Kelly Jennings from the Seahawks in exchange for DT Clinton McDonald, according to ESPN.

Each one started a different day of practice under center with the first-string, and according to WJR-AM, they pretty much took the exact same number of snaps. Early reviews from the workout is that Flynn is in the lead for the starting job, with Wilson struggling at times.

The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed LB Heath Farwell according to his agency's Twitter account. Farwell played only on special teams for Seattle after signing with the team in October. He recorded 21 tackles on special teams and blocked a punt in 11 games.

Seahawks rookie DB Richard Sherman recorded another interception -- his third of the season -- Week 15 at Chicago. It was the fourth pick thrown by Bears quarterbacks on the day. Sherman also had a solo tackle in the contest.

Free agent LB Leroy Hill was arrested by police in Atlanta for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. According to a statement from Atlanta police on Monday, Hill was arrested early Saturday after officers were called to an Atlanta condominium following a complaint about a marijuana odor. Officers say they confirmed the smell, obtained a search warrant and found partially smoked blunts and marijuana residue inside. The News Tribune of Tacoma, Wash., first reported Hill's arrest. Hill has spent his entire NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks. In a statement Monday afternoon, the Seahawks said they were in the process of gathering information and would not be commenting at this time.

Seattle signed DB Phillip Adams on Tuesday to help provide depth in its secondary with DB Kennard Cox battling a hamstring injury. Adams takes the roster spot of WR Mike Williams, who was placed on injured reserve after having surgery on his broken ankle.

RB Quinton Ganther has signed with the Bills after being released by Seattle on Nov. 2. Buffalo released RB Andre' Anderson to make room for Ganther.

The Tacoma News Tribune speculates that there will be a big camp battle between the running backs behind starter Marshawn Lynch for spots on the depth chart. Why? Because the team wants to take some carries off of Lynch so that he's healthy for the playoff run. Lynch had a career-high 285 carries in 15 games last season with at least 20 carries in eight of his last nine games. Leon Washington figures to be the third-down back while Kregg Lumpkin and rookie Robert Turbin will vie for the backup job.

After being released earlier in the week, the Seahawks re-signed Allen Bradford to their practice squad on Friday. But Bradford returns as a linebacker, not a running back, the position Bradford was drafted to play by Tampa Bay. Bradford was recruited to USC by Pete Carroll and LB coach Ken Norton Jr. to play LB, but moved to RB as a freshman.

Seahawks coach Pete Caroll said Monday that Jameson Konz suffered a torn ACL in his first NFL game in Week 5 against the Giants and will require surgery.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports that Seattle receiver Sidney Rice was active and running routes at the team's offseason conditioning workout Thursday but wore a red jersey to signal no contact. Rice is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

Knee, shoulder - Probable for start of training camp

Seattle rookie LB Malcolm Smith recorded the first sack of his NFL career on Sunday against Baltimore. He had two tackles on the day as the Seahawks won the game, 22-17.

Seattle reached an agreement with former Arizona DL Alan Branch on a two-year deal Thursday, according to ESPN. Branch is expected to make $8 million, including $4 million guaranteed over the duration of his contract.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll continues to praise undrafted rookie QB Josh Portis during the early part of training camp. Carroll, who was the former coach at Southern California, noted he’s seen Portis play since he was in high school in Los Angeles. He added Portis still has a lot to learn, but thinks he could have a future with the Seahawks.

DT Lazarius Levingston was chosen off the practice squad by the Seahawks, following the release of DT Al Woods.

The Seahawks agreed to terms Monday with longtime cornerback Marcus Trufant on a one-year deal. His time in Seattle appeared over when he was released by the team with two years left on his contract on March 7. He missed significant time the last three seasons with injuries (a back issue cost him much of 2011) and had his productivity slip, leading to his release.

Seattle LB Matt McCoy (knee) has been placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. McCoy had already been ruled out of the Week 5 game against the Giants due to his knee injury suffered in Week 4. McCoy's season is now over after being placed on injured reserve.

Seahawks DB Roy Lewis made a critical play in the second quarter, recovering a fumble by Cowboys WR Dez Bryant on the Seattle goal line, but Dallas still prevailed in Week 9. Lewis also made three tackles in the game.

Seattle DB Walter Thurmond will need surgery on his broken leg, coach Pete Carroll said on Monday. Thurmond suffered the injury during Week 7 against Cleveland and will be placed on season-ending injured reserve. The Seahawks signed DB Ron Parker to replace Thurmond.

Kellen Winslow became a Seahawk recently, and he's spoken highly of his new team. But it remains how they'll use him and how often they'll use him. According to SiriusXM NFL Radio, a league personnel executive believes that Winslow's best days are behind him. "We talked to the Bucs before the draft and talked about (Winslow) further internally," said the source. "We just didn't think he could be more than a rotational player at this point (in his career) after examining his tape and performance."

Seahawks WR Golden Tate was not much of a factor in Week 17 against the Cardinals. Tate finished with five receptions for 46 yards in the 23-20 defeat, but was unable to get into the end zone. He had a long of 23 yards and was targeted six times by Tarvaris Jackson in the loss.

According to the team's official websits, the Bears waived 14 players Friday, including guard Johan Asiata, fullback Eddie Williams, wide receivers Andy Fantuz and Onrea Jones, and linebacker Chris Johnson. The group also included nine undrafted rookies: Linebackers Tressor Baptiste and Deron Minor, cornerbacks Antareis Bryan and Ryan Jones, tackle Josh Davis, punter Spencer Lanning, defensive end Jake Laptad, center Alex Linnenkohl, and receiver Jimmy Young.

Seattle WR Deon Butler's first-quarter catch in Week 14 against the Rams was his first this season after spending the first nine weeks of the year on the PUP list. Butler, who broke his tibia and fibula in December, saw his first playing time of the year last week but did not have a catch. He gained 8 yards on his lone catch in the 30-13 win.

Seahawks DT Brandon Mebane is moving back to nose tackle, where he played his first two seasons, from the three-technique DT where he spent the past two. Early in training camp, he appears comfortable in his old position, frequently getting good penetration into the backfield. Mebane was more productive in his first two seasons.

Seattle placed DL Dexter Davis on injured reserve on Saturday before Week 2 at Pittsburgh. Davis is out for the season with a hip injury. The team signed CB Kennard Cox to add to the roster.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll has wanted the Seahawks to get faster on defense, especially at linebacker. With the addition of Bobby Wagner in the second round of the draft, Carroll hopes they've solved that issue. Wagner has been thrown into the fire during this weekend's rookie minicamp getting reps at middle linebacker as the Seahawks look to fill the hole left by David Hawthorne's departure to New Orleans. He'll battle veterans Matt McCoy and Barrett Ruud for the starting job this summer. "Bobby's going to get a heck of a chance. We want to see him. We'd love to get that speed on the field if we could. It's rare to find a linebacker that runs that fast," Carroll said. "... But he's got to do it. He's got a long way to go before he can take that over."

Going up against veteran left tackle Alex Barron for much of the team's mid-May minicamp, first-round pick Bruce Irvin displayed some awesome speed off the edge. He struggled on inside moves and power moves against Barron but otherwise flashed the ability head coach Pete Carroll knew he had. "He's very, very fast. He's very instinctive," Carroll said. "... He's definitely going to be a guy that we're going to find ways to use him and it's really going to fit in the pattern that we had thought."

According to the radio station 710 ESPN in Seattle, Seahawks receiver Mike Williams ran this for the first time Wednesday since his leg injury last December. Williams was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after suffering a broken left ankle in Week 15 at Chicago.

With the loss of linebacker David Hawthorne to the Saints, it appeared Barrett Ruud was being penciled in this offseason as the starting middle linebacker. However, coach Pete Carroll said Ruud is fighting through his recovery from groin, knee and shoulder issues. "He's coming back from all of that," Carroll said. "He is working out, he's doing a lot of stuff, but we're going to be very careful with him in bringing him back."
