Buccaneers defensive back Johnthan Banks was forced out of Sunday's season opener against the Panthers with a head injury, per Jennifer Hale of FOX Sports. He sustained the injury in the second half and returned in the fourth quarter.

Buccaneers cornerback Leonard Johnson highlighted the fine defensive effort Sunday in Detroit with a 48-yard pick-six in the second quarter, but that was far from the extent of his contribution.

Johnson tied for second on his team with seven tackles and added two passes defensed in the upset victory.

Buccaneers linebacker Mason Foster had a solid game Sunday, in a Week 14 win over the Bills, 27-6. Foster matched the team high in tackles with nine -- seven solo -- and added one of the team's four interceptions.

Foster has 73 tackles and three interceptions on the season, two of which have come in the last three games.

Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown became the first quarterback in franchise history to score twice on the ground since Steve Young, but it wasn't enough as his team fell to the Rams at home, 19-17 in Week 2.

McCown completed his first four passes and scored on a 5-yard scamper on the opening drive of the game. He was picked off by Rodney McLeod in the first quarter but bounced back after halftime, scoring on a bootleg run from 1-yard out in the third quarter. McCown compiled 179 yards through the air while completing 16 of 21 passes. He was picked off once and held out of the end zone, finishing the game with a 81.2 passer rating.

McCown has been held under 200 passing yards in back-to-back games. He'll now have to travel to Atlanta for a Thursday night divisional showdown against the Falcons.

Buccaneers defensive tackle Akeem Spence was arrested on a marijuana possession charge after he was stopped by an Alabama trooper for speeding, reports the Tampa Bay Tribune. The fourth-round pick in last year's draft was clocked at over 100 mph, the report said.

Spence started 14 games, recording 19 tackles and a sack.

Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans was shaken up on the final play of Sunday's Week 2 loss to the Rams.

Evans caught a 29-yard pass from Josh McCown to put the team in field goal range with approximately eight seconds remaining. Unfortunately, the Buccaneers did not have any timeouts and Evans was helped off the field by trainers due to an injury to the chest/ribs region. By rule, the officials applied a 10-second runoff, which ended the game.

Evans caught all four of his targets for 49 yards in a 19-17 defeat. He has nine receptions for 87 yards through his first two games.

Tampa Bay will travel to Atlanta for a Thursday night divisional showdown against the Falcons. It remains to be seen if Evans will be ready on short rest.

McDonald registered seven total tackles (six solo), with one sack and one tackle for loss. Gholston registered six total tackles (four solo), with one sack and one tackle for loss.

Buccaneers left guard Logan Mankins left Sunday's season opener against the Panthers with an apparent left knee injury. Mankins' knee buckled on him in the second quarter. He was escorted back to the locker room under his own power but was officially ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Buccaneers defensive lineman Adrian Clayborn was placed on injured reserve Friday, due to a season-ending biceps injury.

Clayborn was trying to work through the injury in recent days, having practiced on a limited basis both Wednesday and Thursday. However, the injury proved to be too much for him to keep going, necessitating an IR trip for the second time in three seasons.

Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Owusu found the end zone during Sunday's season opener against the Panthers.

Owusu caught a pass for a gain of 1 yard in the fourth quarter. On the ensuing drive. he followed that up with a 19 yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, his first career touchdown. He caught both of his targets for 20 yards and a touchdown in a 20-14 defeat.

The Buccaneers will host the Rams in Week 2.

The Saints have knocked their roster down to 53 by waiving a number of players Saturday.

Among the offense players let go are center Matt Armstrong, wide receivers Seantavius Jones , Brandon Coleman and Charles Hawkins, tight end Nic Jacobs, guards Jason Weaver and Marcel Jones, tackles Tavon Rooks and Thomas Welch and running backs Greg Jones and Derrick Strozier.

The defenders cut loose are cornerbacks Trevin Wade, Terrence Frederick and Derrius Brooks, linebackers Keyunta Dawson and Todd Davis, tackle Lawrence Virgil, safety Pierre Warren.

Placekickers Shayne Graham and Derek Dimke are also out.

Evan Dietrich-Smith and the Buccaneers have agreed to a four-year deal worth $14.25 million overall, NFL Network reported. Dietrich-Smith started every game for the Packers last season and will enter his sixth year in the pros in 2014.

Mike Glennon worked behind Josh McCown again and didn't do anything to make the Buccaneers re-think their plan at quarterback.

Glennon relieved McCown in the second quarter and compiled 77 yards through the air while completing 6 of 12 passes. 43 of those 77 yards came on a short pass to Mike Evans. Evans bounced off a tackler and took it 43 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Unfortunately for Glennon, Evans fumbled the ball before crossing the end zone, and had the touchdown overturned after a replay by the officials.

Glennon was sacked twice and finished with a 70.5 passer rating.

The Buccaneers were but by the injury bug during Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins. The team had several players leave with injuries.

Running back Mike James left the game with a right shoulder injury in the third quarter. He finished 18 yards on three carries and did not return.

Defensive end William Gholston also suffered a shoulder injury and did not return. Defensive back Rashaan Melvin suffered an ankle injury was ruled out for the remainder of the game. Linebacker Brandon Magee was carted off with a right ankle injury and safety Major Wright exited with a back injury.

McDonald sacked Austin Davis in the third quarter, while Gholston took down the quarterback in the fourth quarter. Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson was limited to four grabs for the second straight week, as his team took another loss at home, this time to the Rams in Week 2.

Jackson was Josh McCown's primary target throughout the afternoon, but was held to just one catch for a gain of 7 yards in the first half. He caught passes for 6, 18 and 20 yards on the first drive after halftime, however, he was only targeted once more the rest of the way.

Jackson caught four of the seven passes thrown his way for a team-high 51 yards in a 19-17 defeat. He has eight catches for 87 yards through his first two games.

Tampa Bay will travel to Atlanta for a Thursday night divisional showdown against the Falcons.

The Buccaneers have re-signed safety Major Wright after placing running back Charles Sims (ankle) on short-term IR, according to NFL.com. Wright was released Saturday as Tampa Bay finalized its 53-man roster.

Buccaneers backup tight end Luke Stocker wasn't a factor in Week 1 against Carolina. He caught a short pass down the middle from Josh McCown for a gain of 8 yards. It was his only touch and target in his team's 20-14 defeat.

Buccaneers kicker Patrick Murray had an up-and-down performance in Week 2 against the Rams.

Murray had his first career field goal attempt -- a 24-yard kick -- blocked by T.J. McDonald. He bounced back with a 36-yard field goal late in the fourth. He finished 1 for 2 in field goal attempts, and tacked on a two extra points in a 19-17 defeat.

Strong side linebacker Jonathan Casillas has signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers.

The 26-year-old Casillas, who hooked on with the team as a free agent before last season, played in 12 games and started four. He recorded 24 tackles, but lost time to a torn meniscus that required offseason surgery.

Buccaneers tight end Brandon Myers was held in check Sunday afternoon at home against the Rams in Week 2.

Myers caught a short 9-yard pass from Josh McCown on the opening play of the game. On the ensuing drive, he hauled in a 24-yard pass. He was held without a target the rest of the way, finishing the game with two receptions for 33 yards in a 19-17 defeat.

Tampa Bay will travel to Atlanta for a Thursday night divisional showdown against the Falcons.

Buccaneers safety Mark Barron revealed that he underwent right knee surgery in the offseason, ESPN reports Sunday.

Barron has been practicing, but is not 100 percent healthy from the procedure, per the report. The 24-year-old missed the final two games of the year in 2013 because of hamstring injury. He should be ready for the start of the season.

Anthony Collins has picked the Buccaneers, reportedly over the Bengals and Panthers, as his new team. The offensive tackle has agreed to terms with them according to The Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud. 

ESPN reports the deal is good for five years and $30 million with $15 million guaranteed

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound behemoth out of Kansas started seven games for the Bengals last year. He has 25 career starts over six seasons.

Buccaneers running back Bobby Rainey got the start in place of an injured Doug Martin (knee) and turned in a monster performance, racking 174 yards of total offense in a Week 2 loss to the Rams.

Rainey ripped a 24-yard run on his first touch of the afternoon and was the focal point of the offense throughout the day. He gashed the defense for a 31-yard run late in the fourth quarter for his longest gain of the game. He took 22 handoffs for 144 yards on the ground, averaging 6.5 yards per attempt. He caught all three of his targets for 30 yards in a 19-17 defeat.

Buccaneers running back Jorvorskie Lane only had one touch, but he made it count for a big play in 20-14 Week 1 loss to Carolina. Lane ripped a 54-yard run to open the second drive of the afternoon for Tampa Bay. He wasn't used the rest of the way.

Buccaneers cornerback Alterraun Verner took part in full team drills Tuesday, a significant step in his return from a tweaked hamstring. The team hopes he can play Saturday against the Dolphins but is more concerned with getting him ready for the Sept. 7 regular-season opener.

"It's definitely progressing," Verner told the team's website.

Buccaneers defensive back Keith Tandy recorded an interception for the second straight game and the third time this season Week 13 at Carolina, grabbing a pass that deflected off the hands of wide receiver Brandon LaFell midway through the first quarter.

Tandy also had one assisted tackle on the day. He has averaged just 1.7 tackles in 12 games this season.
