Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson, who's recovering from foot surgery, said he'll likely miss the rest of the offseason program but aims to return for training camp. "I think training camp will be a good timetable," he told ESPN.com. Buccaneers cornerback Leonard Johnson highlighted the fine defensive effort Sunday in Detroit with a 48-yard pick-six in the second quarter, but that was far from the extent of his contribution.

Johnson tied for second on his team with seven tackles and added two passes defensed in the upset victory.

Buccaneers linebacker Mason Foster had a solid game Sunday, in a Week 14 win over the Bills, 27-6. Foster matched the team high in tackles with nine -- seven solo -- and added one of the team's four interceptions.

Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown threw only one interception in 149 attempts with the Bears last season. He showed some struggles in his first game with his new club and was picked off twice through his first 16 attempts Sunday against the Panthers.

McCown tried to get rid of the ball while he was being taken down, but forced a pass that was tipped and picked off by Antoine Cason in the first quarter. He completed only 3 of 8 passes for 36 yards in the first half. Things didn't get any better in the second half. He bobbled a snap in the third quarter, recovered but only to throw an interception to Roman Harper. He also lost a fumble in the third quarter.

McCown did hook up with Bobby Rainey for a 6-yard touchdown pass with 2:06 remaining in the game. He compiled 183 yards through the air while completing 22 of 35 passes. He added one touchdown and two interceptions in a 20-14 defeat. He was sacked three times and finished with a 71.5 passer rating.

The Buccaneers will host the Rams in Week 2.

The Buccaneers defense will be without defensive back Rashaan Melvin (ankle) and defensive lineman Michael Johnson (ankle) in Week 2 against the Rams, as both have been ruled out for Sunday's game.

Neither player was able to participate during this week's practice sessions, so their scheduled absence from Sunday's game does not come as much of a surprise.

Buccaneers defensive tackle Akeem Spence was arrested on a marijuana possession charge after he was stopped by an Alabama trooper for speeding, reports the Tampa Bay Tribune. The fourth-round pick in last year's draft was clocked at over 100 mph, the report said.

Spence started 14 games, recording 19 tackles and a sack.

Buccaneers rookie receiver Mike Evans nearly came down with his first career touchdown Sunday afternoon at home against Carolina. Evans had one foot out of bounds before re-establishing himself and making a 6-yard grab while falling back in the end zone. The officials ruled the play incomplete. He'll have to wait another week to find the end zone.

Evans caught his first career pass for a gain of 4 yards in the opening drive of the game. He was often used out of the slot and finished as the team's second-leading receiver. He was targeted nine times and finished with five catches for 37 yards, averaging 7.4 yards per attempt in a 20-14 defeat.

The Buccaneers will host the Rams in Week 2.

Buccaneers left guard Logan Mankins left Sunday's season opener against the Panthers with an apparent left knee injury. Mankins' knee buckled on him in the second quarter. He was escorted back to the locker room under his own power but was officially ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Buccaneers defensive lineman Adrian Clayborn was placed on injured reserve Friday, due to a season-ending biceps injury.

Clayborn was trying to work through the injury in recent days, having practiced on a limited basis both Wednesday and Thursday. However, the injury proved to be too much for him to keep going, necessitating an IR trip for the second time in three seasons.

Buccaneers running back Doug Martin is expected to give it a go Week 2 against the Rams, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Martin is considered questionable heading into the game, but is expected to play. Martin expressed a desire to bounce-back after running for just 9 yards Week 1. Coach Lovie Smith agreed, saying Martin remains the team's bellcow. "I've talked about how important Doug is to us," Smith said. "Just our running game in general, we were trying to get it going with all of our guys. Doug is our lead guy. We weren't able to for whatever reason this first game, but we'll stay committed to it."

Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Owusu found the end zone during Sunday's season opener against the Panthers.

Owusu caught a pass for a gain of 1 yard in the fourth quarter. On the ensuing drive. he followed that up with a 19 yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, his first career touchdown. He caught both of his targets for 20 yards and a touchdown in a 20-14 defeat.

The Buccaneers will host the Rams in Week 2.

The Saints have knocked their roster down to 53 by waiving a number of players Saturday.

Among the offense players let go are center Matt Armstrong, wide receivers Seantavius Jones , Brandon Coleman and Charles Hawkins, tight end Nic Jacobs, guards Jason Weaver and Marcel Jones, tackles Tavon Rooks and Thomas Welch and running backs Greg Jones and Derrick Strozier.

The defenders cut loose are cornerbacks Trevin Wade, Terrence Frederick and Derrius Brooks, linebackers Keyunta Dawson and Todd Davis, tackle Lawrence Virgil, safety Pierre Warren.

Placekickers Shayne Graham and Derek Dimke are also out.

Evan Dietrich-Smith and the Buccaneers have agreed to a four-year deal worth $14.25 million overall, NFL Network reported. Dietrich-Smith started every game for the Packers last season and will enter his sixth year in the pros in 2014.

Mike Glennon worked behind Josh McCown again and didn't do anything to make the Buccaneers re-think their plan at quarterback.

Glennon relieved McCown in the second quarter and compiled 77 yards through the air while completing 6 of 12 passes. 43 of those 77 yards came on a short pass to Mike Evans. Evans bounced off a tackler and took it 43 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Unfortunately for Glennon, Evans fumbled the ball before crossing the end zone, and had the touchdown overturned after a replay by the officials.

Glennon was sacked twice and finished with a 70.5 passer rating.

The Buccaneers were but by the injury bug during Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins. The team had several players leave with injuries.

Running back Mike James left the game with a right shoulder injury in the third quarter. He finished 18 yards on three carries and did not return.

Defensive end William Gholston also suffered a shoulder injury and did not return. Defensive back Rashaan Melvin suffered an ankle injury was ruled out for the remainder of the game. Linebacker Brandon Magee was carted off with a right ankle injury and safety Major Wright exited with a back injury.

Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson got off to a slow start and had a quiet game against the Panthers in Week 1.

Jackson was unable to find any chemistry early on with Josh McCown. He was targeted four times and was held without a grab in the first half. He came down with catches for 6 and 7 yards on the opening series after halftime. Jackson finished the game as the team's third-leading receiver, registering four receptions for 36 yards. He was targeted a team-high nine times in a 20-14 defeat.

The Buccaneers have re-signed safety Major Wright after placing running back Charles Sims (ankle) on short-term IR, according to NFL.com. Wright was released Saturday as Tampa Bay finalized its 53-man roster.

Buccaneers backup tight end Luke Stocker wasn't a factor in Week 1 against Carolina. He caught a short pass down the middle from Josh McCown for a gain of 8 yards. It was his only touch and target in his team's 20-14 defeat.

Buccaneers kicker Patrick Murray was barely needed in a Week 1 loss to the Panthers on Sunday. Murray was not asked to attempt a field goal in the game and finished with two extra points in a 20-14 defeat.

The Buccaneers have placed running back Charles Sims (ankle) on short-term injured reserve, according to NFL.com. Sims will be eligible to practice after Week 6 and eligible to play after Week 8.

Strong side linebacker Jonathan Casillas has signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers.

The 26-year-old Casillas, who hooked on with the team as a free agent before last season, played in 12 games and started four. He recorded 24 tackles, but lost time to a torn meniscus that required offseason surgery.

Buccaneers tight end Brandon Myers relieved an injured Austin Seferian-Jenkins and finished as the team's leading receiver in Week 1 against Carolina.

Myers didn't catch his first pass until the second quarter because Seferian-Jenkins sustained a knee injury. He was the safety valve for Josh McCown throughout the afternoon, catching only short passes. He caught six of the eight passes thrown his way for a team-high 41-yards in a 20-14 defeat.

Myers may get the start in Week 2 against the Rams, depending on the status of Seferian-Jenkins.
Mark Barron

Buccaneers safety Mark Barron revealed that he underwent right knee surgery in the offseason, ESPN reports Sunday.

Barron has been practicing, but is not 100 percent healthy from the procedure, per the report. The 24-year-old missed the final two games of the year in 2013 because of hamstring injury. He should be ready for the start of the season.

Anthony Collins has picked the Buccaneers, reportedly over the Bengals and Panthers, as his new team. The offensive tackle has agreed to terms with them according to The Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud. 

ESPN reports the deal is good for five years and $30 million with $15 million guaranteed

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound behemoth out of Kansas started seven games for the Bengals last year. He has 25 career starts over six seasons.

Martin went down with a knee injury in the third quarter and Rainey saw most of the the reps late in the game while Tampa Bay worked a hurry-up offense. He caught a 6-yard touchdown pass on a checkdown from Josh McCown with 2:06 remaining in the game. On the ensuing drive, he caught another short pass but got stripped and was unable to recover the fumble.

Rainey took four handoffs for 12 yards on the ground, averaging 3.0 yards per attempt. He caught all two of his targets for 8 yards and a touchdown in a 20-14 defeat.

The Buccaneers will host the Rams in Week 2. If Martin is unable to go, the team will likely turn to Rainey for the bulk of the carries.

Buccaneers offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford complimented rookie receiver Robert Herron on the work he's put in since being drafted in the seventh round by the team this spring. 

"[H]e's done an excellent job as well, brings a lot of speed to the inside slot receiver," Tedford said of Herron per the official team website

A 5-foot-9 burner out of Wyoming, Herron totaled 2,030 yards and 20 touchdowns over four years in college. He'll compete for the slot role with the likes of Chris Owusu in camp this summer.

Buccaneers cornerback Alterraun Verner took part in full team drills Tuesday, a significant step in his return from a tweaked hamstring. The team hopes he can play Saturday against the Dolphins but is more concerned with getting him ready for the Sept. 7 regular-season opener.

Buccaneers defensive back Keith Tandy recorded an interception for the second straight game and the third time this season Week 13 at Carolina, grabbing a pass that deflected off the hands of wide receiver Brandon LaFell midway through the first quarter.

Tandy also had one assisted tackle on the day. He has averaged just 1.7 tackles in 12 games this season.
