The Packers released defensive lineman Phillip Merling Saturday, to make room on the roster for the activation of Mike Neal from suspension.

The Dallas Cowboys made their first round of cuts Monday and released the following players: wide receiver Raymond Radway; kicker Delbert Alvarado; defensive back C.J. Wilson; tight end Harry Flaherty; running back Javarris Williams and wide receiver David Little.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan announced Tuesday that the team released WR Malcolm Kelly (foot) after agreeing to an injury settlement.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan announced Monday safety Brandon Meriweather suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his right knee Week 11 vs. Philadelphia.

Washington made some roster cuts on Monday. The Redskins trimmed quarterback Jonathan Crompton, running backs Antwon Bailey and Lennon Creer, linebacker Monte Lewis and receivers Lance Lewis and Sam Kirkland off the roster. Also released were tight end Beau Reliford and cornerback Morgan Trent.

The Redskins used many of their acquired draft picks in the 2011 draft to add talent to the defense. After taking Ryan Kerrigan in Round 1, the Redskins selected Clemson DT Jarvis Jenkins (Round 2), Nebraska safety DeJon Gomes (Round 5), Boise State CB Brandyn Thompson (Round 7), Florida State DE Markus White (Round 7) and West Virginia DT Chris Neild (Round 7).

The Redskins announced Monday that they have released fullback Mike Sellers. In his 11 seasons with the Redskins, Sellers played in 164 games with 56 starts, compiling 158 rushing yards on 50 attempts and 1,022 receiving yards on 116 receptions and 19 total touchdowns. Sellers played in 12 games in 2011. He finished the season with one reception for 15 yards.

Redskins rookie DE Jarvis Jenkins tore his right ACL and will miss the season, his agent Joseph Flanagan said Friday morning. Jenkins was hurt in Thursday's 34-31 loss to Baltimore.

The Washington Redskins announced they have signed unrestricted free agent cornerback E.J. Biggers.

The Washington Post reports the Redskins signed safety Jordan Pugh after learning Monday safety Jordan Bernstine will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The Redskins signed linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy Monday.

Notable players cut by the Seahawks on Saturday include: DE Pierre Allen, FB Dorson Boyce, WR Chris Carter, RB Thomas Clayton, DT Colin Cole, CB Kennard Cox, DL Maurice Fountain, DE David Howard, LB Michael Johnson, LB/DE Jameson Konz, FS Mark LeGree, WR Ricardo Lockette, LB Mike Morgan, S Josh Pinkard, DE A.J. Washington defensive lineman Barry Cofield came up with a sack of quarterback Brandon Weeden in the Week 15 win at Cleveland. Cofield finished the game with two tackles overall.

The Washington Post reports that Redskins running back Alfred Morris said he wasn't satisfied with his performance as a rookie last year when he had 335 carries for 1,613 yards and 13 touchdowns. “I left a lot of yards on the field last year. Looking back on film, a lot of it was my aiming points in certain runs, or I was too tight and I couldn’t get outside," he said. "Being more patient with my cutbacks — I tended to cut back too soon. I was blessed, and I definitely don’t take it for granted. Last year’s behind me — I’m beyond that.”

The Washington Examiner reports that Redskins rookie tight end Jordan Reed did not participate in the rookie minicamp because he said he’s still recovering from a bone bruise in his knee. Coach Mike Shanahan said Reed also had a pulled quad, which resulted in soreness in his knee. They’re hopeful he’ll be able to work in a “couple weeks” Shanahan said.

Knee - Probable for start of training camp

Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett surprised everyone Thursday by saying rookie DeJon Gomes will start the rest of the season at strong safety. Current starter LaRon Landry has been hampered by groin and Achilles' problems.

ProFootballTalk.com reports the Redskins have re-signed quarterback Rex Grossman.

The Washington Post reports that the Redskins met a pressing need once they finally got on the clock on Friday night, drafting North Carolina State cornerback David Amerson with the 51st overall pick of the NFL Draft. A 6-foot-1, 205-pound junior, Amerson recorded 61 tackles and five interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) in 2012. He recorded a NCAA-leading 12 interceptions in 2011. Cornerback was need for the Redskins because although starters DeAngelo Hall and Josh Wilson return, both are entering the final year of their respective contracts, and last year’s third corner, Cedric Griffin, no longer is with the team.

CBS Washington is reporting linebacker London Fletcher will undergo surgery to fix his left ankle and his elbow, signaling his intent to return in 2013. These operations will be Fletcher's first and second career procedures. “Surgery is the first step towards prepping for next season," he said.

Ankle, Elbow - Probable for start of training camp

The Redskins have signed quarterback Pat White, according to multiple sources. In 13 games with the Dolphins as an experimental Wildcat quarterback White was incomplete on five passes and ran 21 times for 81 yards.

The Redskins re-signed cornerback DeAngelo Hall to a one-year contract Monday, reports the Washington Post. Hall returns to the Redskins at a reduced rate after the team cut him in mid-March.

Finger - Probable for start of training camp

Redskins linebacker Rob Jackson has been suspended four games without pay for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The league said Wednesday night that Jackson will miss the first four games of the regular season.

Suspension - Eligible to return Week 5.

Redskins receiver not only underwent a procedure on his right ankle but also both of his hands, the Washington Post reports. He had a plate and seven screws removed from the ankle in January and had torn ligaments in his hands repaired the same week. He had the plate and screws put in his ankle back in 2011. "Basically, the whole year, I was playing with two torn ligaments in both hands," he said. "So they corrected that and got all that stuff straight."

Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan turned in a decent performance during Sunday's regular season finale against the Cowboys in Week 17. Kerrigan failed to take down the quarterback but registered six tackles in 28-18 victory.

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III told reporters he's doing great in his recovery from a torn ACL, LCL and meniscus in his right knee. "Knee feels fine," he said. "It's about taking it slow. Each day is a better day."

The Redskins signed cornerback Jerome Murphy Tuesday.

The Redskins signed linebacker Markus White off the Tampa Bay practice squad and promoted defensive end Doug Worthington from their own practice squad Tuesday in the wake of losing Adam Carriker and Brian Orakpo to season-ending injuries.

Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo told Comcast Sportsnet he's ready to "wreak havoc" this season after tearing a torn left pectoral muscle last September. “I'm 100 percent, my body is feeling even better than what it was before as far as conditioning and strength-wise,” Orakpo said. “When you get hurt, you get to work on all the little muscles that you have a tendency to (overlook). It was a freak accident, it's nothing you can control.”

Pectoral - Probable for start of training camp

Multiple sources report the Redskins released running back Ryan Grant Tuesday and signed Keiland Williams, who was released by the Lions Thursday.

The Washington Examiner reports that the Redskins have discussed a multi-year deal with fullback Darrel Young. If they don't come to an agreement, he likely would receive the right-of-first-refusal tender offer worth $1.323 million. Because he was an undrafted free agent, the Redskins would receive no compensation if he left, but they would have seven days to match any offer.

Less than a week after he was promoted from the team's practice squad, Washington placed DL Chris Baker (quadriceps) on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday.

The following players were cut by the Raiders Friday: LB Kaelin Burnett, K Eddy Carmona, WR Derek Carrier, WR Brandon Carswell, DE Hall Davis, TE Kyle Efaw, DL Dominique Hamilton, LB Chad Kilgore, WR Eddie McGee, RB Lonyae Miller, WR Roscoe Parrish, WR Travionte Session, LB Nathan Stupar and S Curtis Taylor.

The Washington Examiner reports that the Redskins want to do a multi-year contract with tight end Logan Paulsen, a player they consider reliable, though no deal is imminent. The report says it's hard to see them making him a second-round tender, which would guarantee his return. Even if they give him a right-of-first-refusal tender, there's a chance no team will bite on Paulsen. The report also says it's doubtful Paulsen would pass on a multi-year deal elsewhere in the hopes of cashing in more as an unrestricted free agent. If the Redskins re-sign Fred Davis, as they are telling people they will do, then Paulsen would be a backup.

Multiple sources report the Redskins have re-signed tight end Chris Cooley in the wake of losing tight end Fred Davis to an Achilles injury.

Washington tight end Niles Paul caught one pass for 29 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 38-31 win over the Cowboys.

Redskins wide receiver Leonard Hankerson tallied two catches for 27 yards during Washington's 24-14 loss to Seattle in an NFC Wild Card contest Sunday. Hankerson was targeted five times, two shy of the team lead held by Josh Morgan (seven), as he averaged a stellar 13.5 yards per reception. However, he was unable to reach the end zone for the third consecutive game following his two-score performance in Week 15.

Linebacker Jonathan Goff tore the ACL in his right knee on Saturday, the same injury he suffered last September with the New York Giants. The Redskins later released him and signed offensive lineman Jordan Black, who has made 40 career starts but only 11 since 2006.

CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora believes Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon will break out in his second season in D.C. Admitting his health is a major concern, La Canfora thinks he and Robert Griffin III had instant chemistry and combined could put up some wild numbers. "[H]e seems dedicated to building up his body this offseason," La Canfora writes. "He is explosive (Garcon has a touchdown catch of at least 57 yards in each of the past three seasons) and has the ability to average over 15 yards per catch, and catch upwards of 100 balls. The Redskins want to feature him, without a doubt, but he has started all 16 games only once in his career. If that can change, then 2013 could be very interesting for the Redskins and their top receiver."

Washington DL Stephen Bowen had a nice game on Sunday of Week 4 at St. Louis. Bowen helped the Redskins earn a win as he recorded 1.5 sacks in the game against QB Sam Bradford. Bowen recorded five total tackles in the contest.

Washington linebacker Perry Riley had an excellent game for the Redskins in the Week 16 win at Philadelphia. Riley recorded a sack of quarterback Nick Foles and added eight tackles to finish second on the team. All eight of his tackles were solo stops for the Redskins.

The Washington Post reports Santana Moss has restructured his contract, saving the Redskins $2 million against the salary cap. The move likely cements his roster spot.

Washington wide receiver and return man Brandon Banks was utilized more of offense in the Week 3 loss at home to the Bengals. Banks was used in the option with quarterback Robert Griffin III getting rushed often by the defense. Banks finished with three rushing attempts for 29 yards and added one catch for 5 more. He was only targeted once in the passing game.

Washington cornerback Josh Wilson recorded five tackles during the Week 14 overtime win over the Ravens Sunday. Wilson had just one solo tackle in the game, however. He also recorded a pass defended.

The Patriots waived defensive lineman Ron Brace Saturday. Brace recorded four tackles on the season for the Patriots.

The Washington Examiner reports that Redskins rookie running back Chris Thompson should be ready for training camp after tearing his left ACL at Florida State this past season. Doctors said it would take eight months, and he had the injury six months ago.

Knee - Probable for start of training camp

The Redskins placed linebacker Keenan Robinson (pectoral) on injured reserve Monday.

Donning a blue sports coat instead of one of his trademark costumes, an emotional Clinton Portis reflected on a nine-year NFL career and announced his retirement at the ripe age of 30. Portis officially called it quits Thursday, a mere formality given that he hadn't been in the league since 2010. The Redskins, the last team he played for, welcomed him for a final farewell. "It's the closing of a chapter in my life," said Portis, who had to stop and collect himself several times during a 25-minute speech. "I really wasn't expecting to get emotional."

Redskins defensive back Tanard Jackson was suspended indefinitely Friday for violating the league's substance abuse policy, according to the Washington Post. Jackson’s suspension begins immediately and he is eligible for reinstatement on Aug. 31, 2013. The NFL will revisit his case in a year and Jackson is trying to appeal the ruling.

Redskins safety Madieu Williams had another low-key performance during the Week 14 overtime win over Baltimore Sunday. Williams only had one solo tackle but finished the game with five total for the Redskins. He did not defend any passes and could not make an interception during the game.

The Washington Examiner reports on Saturday that the Redskins have placed CB Phillip Buchanon (neck, knee) on injured reserve. Buchanon did not manage a single tackle for the Redskins this season. He was only active for one game.

The Washington Times reports Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan seems happy with the progress tight end Fred Davis has made from his torn Achilles. "Fred has made some strides. I think we’ll find out in OTAs exactly where he’s at," Shanahan said. It was previously reported that Davis will be cleared for contact in June.

ESPN reports Redskins safety Reed Doughty is recovering from offseason right toe surgery. He should be ready for the start of training camp.

Toe - Probable for start of training camp

Redskins running back Evan Royster finished with only one touch during Washington's 24-14 loss to Seattle in their NFC Wild Card matchup Sunday, but he was able to make it count. Royster hauled in a 4-yard pass from quarterback Robert Griffin III to open the scoring in the first quarter for his second touchdown in the past four games. It was his third total touchdown of the season after failing to reach the end zone last year.

Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan told ESPN Monday he will not play quarterback Robert Griffin III until he is "100 percent." Griffin is recovering from reconstruction surgery of the ACL, LCL and meniscus in his right knee suffered in the team's playoff loss to the Seahawks in January. Shanahan also said the team is making plans in case Griffin can't start the season on-time. Kirk Cousins will take all the offseason first-team reps.

The Redskins continued trimming their roster Friday in preparation for the regular season and released the following players: quarterback Jonathan Crompton; running back Tristan Davis; defensive back Travon Bellamy; defensive linemen Doug Worthington and Delvin Johnson; linebacker Bryan Kehl; and wide receiver Terrence Austin. It was the second time Crompton was released this week after re-signing with the team Wednesday.

Redskins kicker Kai Forbath recorded only two extra points during Washington's 24-14 loss against Seattle in an NFC Wild Card matchup Sunday. Forbath failed to attempt a field goal for the first time this season as the Redskins struggled with field position after the first quarter.

Robert Griffin III might have been the big name the Redskins took in the NFL Draft, but they also picked up three defenders: Texas linebacker Keenan Robinson, SMU cornerback Richard Crawford and Iowa safety Jordan Bernstine.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said in an interview with CBSSports.com that running back Roy Helu, who ended last year on injured reserve with turf toe, is doing well in his recovery. "I’m hoping Helu can come back and be the guy that he was at certain times before the injury," Shanahan said. "It looks like he’s doing quite well with the injury. For a while there it didn’t look like he was making progress, but all of the sudden it just happened and he’s feeling quite better. He can help us out a lot in the third-down package."

Toe - Probable for start of training camp

The Redskins and defensive end Adam Carriker agreed to a contract restructure that will keep him with the team.

Redskins CB Byron Westbrook was arrested early Friday and charged with driving under the influence.

A day after getting waived by the Bucs for failing a physical, the Redskins claimed receiver Dezmon Briscoe off waivers. He'll reunite with Raheem Morris who now serves as the Redskins secondary coach. Briscoe led the Bucs in receiving scores with six on 35 catches for 387 yards (11.1 avg.) last year.

The Chargers waived or released the following players Friday: RB Edwin Baker, LB Bront Bird, DL Jacques Cesaire, LB Ricky Elmore, LB Darryl Gamble, CB Greg Gatson, DE Logan Harrell, FB Jacob Hester, CB Arthur Hobbs, QB Jarrett Lee, PK Nick Novak, CB DeAndre Presley, DE Damik Scafe, TE Kory Sperry and WR Mike Willie.

A torn ACL suffered during OTAs finished Redskins cornerback Chase Minnifield's season before it began. He's on injured reserve.

The Redskins announced they've re-signed linebacker Bryan Kehl.

Washington WR David Anderson played a role in the Redskins' decent performance Week 14 against New England. Anderson hauled in two catches for 12 yards in the game. Anderson caught a 6-yard TD pass from QB Rex Grossman in the third quarter for the Redskins that tied the score at 27 apiece at the time. The touchdown was the first of the year for Anderson.

Aside from veteran receiver Deion Branch and long-time backup Brian Hoyer, the Patriots released the following players on Friday: safety Sergio Brown, receiver Jeremy Ebert, defensive lineman Marcus Harrison, receiver Jesse Holley, safety James Ihedigbo, fullback Eric Kettani, center Dan Koppen, linebacker Niko Koutouvides, defensive lineman Aaron Lavarias, safety Derrick Martin, tight end Alex Silvestro, linebacker Jeff Tarpinian, receiver Kerry Taylor, tight end Tyler Urban and safety Malcolm Williams.

Redskins wide receiver Aldrick Robinson gets his first taste of the Beltway rivalry Week 14 on Sunday at home against Baltimore. The Ravens have been decent against opposing wide receivers this season, but allowed five catches to three different Pittsburgh wideouts just last week. That said, the Ravens haven't given up 100 yards receiving to a wideout since both Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd did it for the Patriots back in Week 3.

The Redskins have signed Darryl Tapp, naming him as a linebacker instead of as a defensive end. He played with the Eagles last season.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said defensive linemen Rob Jackson and Chris Wilson will split playing time at the outside linebacker spot after Brian Orakpo was placed on season-ending injured reserve earlier this week. "I think we’ll both get playing time," Wilson told the Washington Post. "I’m always up for the challenge. The season is just beginning. ... I’m looking forward to it."

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Monday safety Jordan Bernstine, who injured his knee Week 1 against the Saints, will be out for the season with a torn ACL, MCL and PCL.

The NFL announced Tuesday Redskins cornerback Cedric Griffin was suspended four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances. He will miss the final four games of the regular season and won't be eligible for reinstatement until Dec. 31.

The Redskins signed defensive end Kedric Golston to a three-year deal.
