The Packers held on for a one-point victory in Week 14, limiting the visiting Falcons to 21 points on 285 yards, but they were lacking in big plays, recording just one sack and one interception. They did also have a fumble recovery -- a direct result of the sack.
The Packers entered the day tied for third in sacks, but the interception was just their seventh this season. The 21 points were the fewest they had allowed since Week 7, and the 285 yards were the fewest they had allowed since Week 8.
Their matchup Week 15 at Dallas figures to be a more difficult one, making the Packers DST a less-than-advisable start in Fantasy.
Packers linebackers A.J. Hawk and Clay Matthews didn't make their usual contributions Week 14 against the Falcons. Neither player contributed a sack, and neither was especially productive with tackles either. Hawk had four, including two solo. Matthews had three, including two solo.
The four were a season-low for Hawk, who's averaging 8.2 in 13 games. Matthews is averaging just 3.9 in nine games.
The Saints got a slew of offensive contributions in their Week 14 win over Carolina. Among them, receiver Kenny Stills caught two passes for 22 yards and tight end Benjamin Watson had a 20-yard reception.
Wideout Robert Meachem caught one of three targets for 7 yards, adding a 4-yard run. Fullback Jed Collins caught a 4-yard pass and carried once for zero yards. Running back Mark Ingram ran three times for 4 yards, and running back Khiry Robinson had a 6-yard carry.
Linebacker Mike Neal and defensive back Jarrett Bush made the big plays for the Packers defense in Week 14 against the Falcons. Neal recorded the team's only sack on the day, forcing a fumble that teammate Johnny Jolly recovered. Bush had the team's only interception.
The Falcons may not have pulled out a victory Week 14 at Green Bay, but their defense certainly isn't to blame.
The Falcons DST, which entered the day ranked dead last in standard Fantasy leagues, equaled a season high with five sacks, inlcuding 1 1/2 for both Paul Worrilow and Jonathan Massaquoi. It hadn't recorded more than three sacks since Week 5. It also had an interception returned for a touchdown by Paul Weatherspoon and a fumble recovery by Malliciah Goodman. The Packers' 22 points and 334 yards were the second-fewest the Falcons had allowed to a team all season.
Of course, the Falcons were facing an offense that had taken its lumps in recent weeks, but the same is true with the Redskins coming to town in Week 15.
After rushing for zero yards on four carries Week 13, Saints running back Pierre Thomas wasn't much more effective Week 14. He ran seven times for 14 yards and caught all four of his targets for 14 yards.
Thomas has 49 yards from scrimmage the past two weeks after going off for 130 total yards Week 12.
Stuck in a crowded backfield, Thomas visits the Rams in Week 15.
