Jeremy Ross: Promoted from practice squad
Jeremy Ross was promoted from the Ravens' practice squad Saturday, the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec reports.
He is expected to be the Ravens' primary kick returner and will also serve as the fifth wide receiver with Steve Smith and Breshad Perriman ailing.
Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar placed on injured reserve
Dallas Cowboys running back Lance Dunbar (knee) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, ESPN's Todd Archer reports.
This comes as no surprise as Dunbar had surgery earlier in the week to repair a torn ACL and he also has a partially torn MCL. The Cowboys signed wide receiver Vince Mayle to take Dunbar's spot on the roster.
Vince Mayle: Signed by Cowboys
Vince Mayle was signed off Cowboys' the practice squad Saturday, ESPN's Todd Archer reports.
The Cowboys needed to add a skill player with Lance Dunbar getting placed on injured, so Mayle will get his shot. Look for him to see limited snaps initially.
Week 5 status for Steelers WR Martavis Bryant remains unclear
NFL Network's Michael Fabiano relays that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant tweaked his knee in practice this past week and appears unlikely to play Monday night against the San Diego Chargers .
Per the Pittsburgh Panthers Post-Gazette, the Steelers have a roster exemption pertaining to Bryant University Bulldogs until Monday afternoon, by which time, the team must decide whether or not to add Bryant (who was suspended for four games to start the season) to their 53-man roster in advance of Week 5.
Cowboys LB Sean Lee cleared of concussion
Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee successfully completed the league's concussion protocol and will play Sunday against the New England Patriots , ESPN Dallas reports.
The Cowboys will need all hands on deck to try and contain Tom Brady and the Pats offense, so having Lee available along with the returning Greg Hardy and Rolando McClain could give them a fighting chance.
Cowboys QB Matt Cassel will serve as Brandon Weeden's backup Sunday
Quarterback Matt Cassel will be active Sunday for the first time since being acquired by the Dallas Cowboys , the Dallas Morning News reports.
Kellen Moore has been acting as Brandon Weeden 's backup the last two games, but the Cowboys feel that Cassel knows the playbook well enough now to step in if needed.
Texans WR Nate Washington (hamstring) questionable for Week 6
Houston Texans wide receiver Nate Washington 's (hamstring) status remains cloudy, the Houston Cougars Chronicle reports.
Per coach Bill O'Brien, there is a better chance that fellow wideout Cecil Shorts will return to action next week than Washington Huskies . Though we suppose that Washington's Week 6 outlook could look up in the coming days once the Houston Texans resume practice, Friday's report makes such an outcome seem iffy.
Texans WR Cecil Shorts could return next week
Per coach Bill O'Brien, there is a better chance that Houston Texans wide receiver Cecil Shorts (shoulder) will return to action next week than fellow wideout Nate Washington, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Shorts, who is bouncing back from a dislocated left shoulder that didn't require surgery, is out of the sling that he was sporting earlier this week, thus opening the door for a possible return to action as soon as Week 6 against the Jaguars.
Packers S Sean Richardson dealing with herniated disk in neck
Green Bay Packers safety Sean Richardson has a herniated disk in his neck and is expected to miss the rest of the season, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The injury is reportedly similar to the one Richardson suffered in 2012 that required neck fusion surgery. Given that the team has been very conservative with neck injuries - they refused to clear Nick Collins or Jermichael Finely in recent years - it's reasonable to wonder if this latest injury could jeopardize Richardson's career.
Texans' Ryan Mallett: Supplanted as starter
Ryan Mallett 's teammate, Brian Hoyer, will start against the Jaguars in Week 6, the Houston Chronicle reports.
While coach Bill O'Brien declined to commit to Hoyer as the team's starter for the remainder of the season, Mallett is only worth stashing in the deepest of leagues, as he's no lock to get another chance to start for the Houston Texans moving forward, in the absence of an injury to Hoyer.
