Lions RB Joique Bell sits out practice, Week 5 status is TBD
Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell (ankle) didn't take part in Wednesday's practice, according to MLive.com.
Bell's absence on Monday night gave Ameer Abdullah unfettered access to touches out of the Lions' backfield, but the rookie could only muster 33 yards on the ground and two catches for 11 yards against the Seattle Seahawks ' typically stout defense.
Meanwhile, Theo Riddick took on a pass-catching role, turning five receptions into 31 yards. If Bell remains out of commission, the preceding breakdown of reps between Abdullah and Riddick will likely be replicated.
Packers WR Davante Adams (ankle) to be re-evaluated Thursday
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Adams will be re-evaluated Thursday, though a return to the field isn't expected in the near future. The Packers have two games before reaching their bye in Week 7, meaning the team may exercise caution to ensure Adams is healthy for the long haul.
Colts RB Tyler Varga will miss second straight game Week 5
Indianapolis Colts running back Tyler Varga (concussion) is listed as out for Thursday's game against the Houston Texans .
With Varga still out, Josh Robinson and Zurlon Tipton are in line to serve as Frank Gore 's top backups Thursday.
Colts RB Frank Gore (foot) listed as probable for Week 5
Indianapolis Colts running back Frank Gore (foot) is listed as probable for Thursday's game against the Houston Texans .
The Colts kicked the tires on Ahmad Bradshaw earlier this week, but he hasn't been signed by the team. With Tyler Varga out Thursday, Gore is on track to lead the Indianapolis' rushing attack, which includes Josh Robinson and Zurlon Tipton .
Through his first four games, Gore is averaging 4.2 yards per carry and has two rushing touchdowns.
Bears WR Alshon Jeffery closer to returning to lineup?
Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Upholding his activity level from last week, Jeffery will seek to break his three-game absence due to a hamstring strain. If he makes his long-awaited return Sunday, he'll team up with Jay Cutler against a Kansas City Chiefs secondary that has given up an NFL-worst 10 touchdown receptions to opposing wide receivers this season.
Colts TE Dwayne Allen set to return after two-game absence
Indianapolis Colts tight end Dwayne Allen (ankle) is listed as probable for Thursday's game against the Houston Texans .
While Allen looks poised to return to action after missing two games, the presence of fellow TE Coby Fleener makes Allen a hit-or-miss Fantasy lineup option these days, given the timeshare in play here.
Bears QB Jay Cutler takes it easy in practice Wednesday
Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (hamstring) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Cutler returned Sunday from a one-week absence due to a hamstring injury and didn't miss a beat, completing 28 of 43 passes for 281 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Considering he was initially given a prognosis of at least two missed games, it isn't a surprise that his practice reps are limited to begin the week.
As long as the healing process continues unabated, he'll face a Kansas City Chiefs secondary Sunday that has allowed 311 yards per game and 11 passing touchdowns to quarterbacks this season.
Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (illness) questionable for Week 5
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (illness) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Houston Texans .
Hasselbeck missed practice Tuesday, but he was listed as a full participant Wednesday. Still, with both Hasselbeck and Andrew Luck officially listed as questionable this week, the Colts bolstered their Week 5 QB depth in advance of Thursday's contest by re-signing Josh Johnson .
Colts CB Greg Toler (neck) on track to play Week 5
Indianapolis Colts cornerbacker Greg Toler (neck) is probable for Thursday's game against the Houston Texans .
Considering he's been a full participant in practice every day this week, he will likely make his first appearance of the season against the Texans. His return couldn't come at a better time, as Vontae Davis (foot) unable to practice all week. Toler could slot in one of the cornerback spots, if Davis is out Thursday.
Colts CB Vontae Davis questionable for Week 5 against Texans
Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis (foot) is questionable for Thursday's contest against the Houston Texans , according to the team's official website.
It's still unclear when Davis may have suffered the injury, but his status Wednesday certainly doesn't bode well for chances to play against the Texans. If he's unable to go, Greg Toler , who has missed all season with a neck injury, could start in his place.
