Redskins RB Alfred Morris blames self for poor ground game
The Redskins led the NFL in rushing in 2012 and ranked fifth last season despite their 3-13 record, greatly due to Morris, who totaled more yards on the ground than anyone in the league not named Adrian Peterson the last two years. But Washington sits 21st this season in rushing yards and 20th in YPC. Morris has just 187 yards rushing in the last four games combined.
In studying his subpar performance Sunday against Tennessee, he noticed minor differences in the path he takes while carrying the ball, the Washington Times is reporting. He claims it's too close to the line of scrimmage, thereby limiting cutback opportunities and preventing his offensive linemen from effectively setting up their blocks.
"I can't really read it out like I'm supposed to," he said. "You think it's nothing, like, 'Oh, it's just a tight track.' But when you really look at it, especially after watching last week's film, it was like, 'Man. Geez. If my track was just a little wider, I could've pressed that more and set that block up a little better so I can get downhill.' It's little things like that. They make a huge difference."
