Bears safety Adrian Amos makes five tackles Sunday
Chicago Bears safety Adrian Amos notched five tackles in Sunday's 22-20 win over the Raiders.Amos has recorded exactly five tackles in three of the Bears' four games this season, but his lack of turnover production thus far makes him mostly irrelevant for individual defensive player purposes.
Bills RB Karlos Williams misses first practice of Week 5
Buffalo Bills running back Karlos Williams (concussion) will not practice Wednesday.
While the Bills have yet to rule Williams out this week, coach Rex Ryan suggested Wednesday that in the event that both LeSean McCoy and Williams are unavailable Sunday against the Tennessee Titans , Anthony Dixon would start Week 5.
Bears linebacker Christian Jones has five tackles in win over Raiders
Chicago Bears linebacker Christian Jones accumulated five tackles in the Bears' Week 4 win over the Oakland Raiders .
Jones remains entrenched as a starter at the middle linebacker spot next to Shea McClellin , especially after his top threat to the starting job, Jon Bostic , was recently dealt to the New England Patriots .
However, Jones has a ways to go before ascending to individual defensive player relevance, as his 5 1/2 tackles per game so far this season don't represent high-end production from the linebacker spot.
Pernell McPhee continues to be standout defensive player for Bears
Chicago Bears linebacker Pernell McPhee accumulated a team-high eight tackles and an interception in Sunday's 22-20 win over the Oakland Raiders .
The Bears' decision to ink McPhee to a five-year, $40 million deal in March looks to be a wise move through four games. McPhee has been the clear standout player on the Bears' defense, collecting 24 stops and two sacks in addition to the interception.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio should continue to devise a variety of blitz packages to maximize McPhee's impact on the opposing passing game.
X-rays come back clean for Bears safety Antrel Rolle
X-rays on Chicago Bears safety Antrel Rolle 's foot came back clean after he was forced out of Sunday's win over the Oakland Raiders due to injury, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
It looks like Rolle avoided a serious injury after he left the locker room sporting a walking boot Sunday, but his status for this week's game against the Kansas City Chiefs remains in some peril. Perhaps in anticipation of Rolle sitting out Sunday, the Bears signed Sherrod Martin on Tuesday to add depth to their safety ranks.
Bears sign safety Sherrod Martin to one-year deal
Safety Sherrod Martin signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Martin, who was cut by the Bears in training camp, re-signed with the team after Antrel Rolle suffered a foot injury in Sunday's win over the Oakland Raiders . If Rolle is unavailable for Week 5, Martin or backup Harold Jones-Quartey could see the start at strong safety.
Ravens wide receiver Chris Givens will see action immediately
Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that wide receiver Chris Givens will be included in the Ravens' game plan for the team's Week 5 matchup with the Cleveland Browns , Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Harbaugh did not say exactly how or how much Givens will be involved, but it appears the Ravens will be counting on him in the passing game right off the bat. With Steve Smith (back) and Breshad Perriman (knee) out for Week 5, Givens figures to be either No. 3 or No. 4 on the wide receiver depth chart in his team debut.
Bears center Will Montgomery out for season with fractured tibia
Chicago Bears center Will Montgomery suffered a fractured left tibia in Sunday's win over the Oakland Raiders and has been placed on season-ending injured reserve, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Montgomery, who signed a one-year contract with the Bears this offseason due in large part with his familiarity with coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase from his days in Denver, started the first four games at center for the Bears.
The team is expected to replace him in the lineup with rookie Hroniss Grasu , who has been inactive for all four games, or move left guard Matt Slauson over to center.
Lions TE Eric Ebron could be out three weeks due to knee injury
Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron (knee) told ESPN he could be out up to three weeks.
Ebron's chances of playing this week probably are not good, but it does not appear he will require surgery for his setback. He could return to action before the end of October.
Brandon Pettigrew (hamstring), assuming he is healthy, and Timothy Wright will handle the tight end duties for the Lions until Ebron is able to return.
Bears DL Eddie Goldman records first sack of NFL career
Chicago Bears defensive tackle Eddie Goldman notched his first NFL sack in Sunday's 22-20 win over the Oakland Raiders .
Goldman's role was expected to diminish in Week 4 with Jeremiah Ratliff completing his three-game suspension, but Ratliff remained unavailable due to an injury stemming from the preseason. Goldman made the most of the opportunity, logging 30-plus snaps for the third consecutive week.
Despite his performance, the rookie's playing time still looks to be headed for a decline once Ratliff is back.
