News: Andrej Nestrasil tallied a goal on one of his four shots in his Hurricanes debut Saturday against the Avalanche. Analysis: The young forward was claimed off waivers from the Red Wings a couple days earlier and immediately played a vital role for this new team, skating for 13:41 as a member of the team's second line. His score capped a three-goal first period for the Hurricanes, chasing opposing goalie Reto Berra from the game before the Avs rallied for the comeback win.
News: Brett Bellemore left Saturday's game in the first period after he was checked into the boards and didn't return, the Associated Press reports. Analysis: At the very least, it sounds like Brett Bellemore is experiencing some body soreness, if not something more severe. The Hurricanes figure to provide an update on his condition once they resume practicing, putting his status for Wednesday's game against the Panthers in question for the time being.
News: Kyle Clifford assisted on two scores in Saturday's loss to the Stars. Analysis: The 23-year-old still has only five points in 21 games this season, making it tough to get excited about Saturday's showing. He's worth a look in specialty formats only for those fishing for hits and PIM help.
News: Brian Campbell was able to notch an assist in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators. Analysis: The assist gives him seven points (1G,6A) in the first 18 games of the season. After only putting two assists on the board in the month of October, he has had a solid month of November collecting one goal and four assists. Averaging 23:53 minutes of ice time per game ranks him 23rd in the NHL this season. Brian Campbell will always produce the majority of his points on the power play which is good news for fantasy owners who are awarded extra points for special teams points. He is only owned in 17% of espn leagues, so if his play continues to improve don't be surprised to see him on someone else's roster instead of the waiver wire.
News: Jarret Stoll set up two goals and attempted three shots in Saturday's loss to the Stars. Analysis: After going without a point in the Kings' first 12 games, Jarret Stoll now has contributed two goals and four assists over the last nine contests. The minor scoring burst probably isn't worth getting to worked up about while Stoll remains outside of a top-six role, but it does at least indicate that he still has it in him to pitch in offensively for the Kings.
News: Calvin Pickard stopped all 17 of the shots he faced for his first NHL win Saturday against Carolina. Analysis: Pikcard didn't start Saturday's game, but was called upon in the first period after starter Reto Berra was pulled. Berra gave up three goals on 10 shots, but Calvin Pickard was able to step in and help the team comeback to defeat the Canes. With the way Berra has struggled this season, there is a chance Pickard could stick with the Avalanche once starter Semyon Varlamov (groin) returns from injury. The 22-year-old youngster is 1-2-0 this season with a respectable .913 save percentage and 2.66 GAA.
News: Cody Eakin chipped in two assists in Saturday's victory over the Sharks. Analysis: Cody Eakin has fit in quite well while playing on the top line with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin for the last three games, producing two goals and three assists. Given the immense talents of the two players flanking him, there's reason to think Eakin can continue producing at a decent rate while he remains on the top line. Those in search of forward help would be wise to take a flier on Eakin in the event coach Lindy Ruff decides to keep him with the top trio for the balance of the season.
News: Jason Demers netted the game-winning power-play goal in his Stars debut Saturday. Analysis: The goal was the first of the season for Jason Demers, who had been held to only three assists over 20 games with the Sharks before he was traded Friday. It would seem the Stars are earmarking him for a greater role than he enjoyed with his previous team, as he saw 25:32 of ice time Saturday, including 2:43 on the man advantage. His fantasy value appears to be on the upswing with the move to Dallas.
News: Tyler Seguin produced a goal and assist to finish with a plus-3 rating over 18:33 of ice time in Saturday's victory over the Kings. Analysis: The goal allowed Tyler Seguin to remain one tally ahead of the Lightning's Steven Stamkos for the NHL lead with 15, while the two points brought him within three of the Flyers' Jakub Voracek for the league's top mark in that category. The 22-year-old is doing a phenomenal job of replicating his star-making 2013-14 campaign.
News: Kari Lehtonen was bombarded for 41 shots on goal Saturday against the Kings, but stopped 37 of them to escape with the victory. Analysis: Staked to a 4-0 lead early in the second period, Kari Lehtonen nearly gave it all away before shutting out the Kings over final 9:16. Though Lehtonen was able to bring his record to three games over .500 with the victory, the Stars seem to be winning in spite of him than because of him. The netminder ranks 33rd among qualifying goalies in GAA (2.98) and 31st in save percentage (.906).
