Artem Anisimov
Hawks' Anisimov Expected To Center Second Line
Artem Anisimov, C, CHI
11:14 AM
News: Artem Anisimov is expected to center the Blackhawks' second line during the upcoming season, Scott Powers of ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: After acquiring Artem Anisimov Monday in the Brandon Saad trade, the Blackhawks affirmed their commitment to carve out a bigger role for the 27-year-old pivot by signing him to a five-year, $22.75 million contract extension the following day while unrestricted free agents Brad Richards and Antoine Vermette signed with other clubs. The Blackhawks have had some instability at the second-line center spot for the last several seasons, but the team is hoping that Anisimov can finally end the carousel. It's unclear who Anisimov will skate next to in 2015-16, but coach Joel Quenneville's historical tendency to separate Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane could allow Anisimov to ride shotgun with one of the league's most potent goal scorers.

Jani Hakanpaa
Blues Prospect Hakanpaa Leaves For Finland
Jani Hakanpaa, D, STL
11:03 AM
News: Jani Hakanpaa has elected to sign a two-year contract with Karpat of the Finnish Elite League rather than remain in North America, Andrew Allsman of KMOV.com reports.
Analysis: Jani Hakanpaa appeared to fall down the Blues' defensive depth chart at AHL Chicago last season after recording just eight points in 64 games. The 23-year-old was tendered a qualifying offer, but he evidently decided a better opportunity for him existed overseas. He'll return to his native country for the next two seasons, but the Blues will retain his rights.

Martin St. Louis
Rangers' St. Louis Retires
Martin St. Louis, RW, NYR
11:01 AM
News: Martin St. Louis announced his retirement as an NHL player on Thursday.
Analysis: The 40-year-old winger, who recorded 21 goals and 52 points in 74 games with the Rangers last season, finishes up his distinguished 16-year NHL career with 391 goals and 1,033 points in 1,134 games. In addition to being a member of the Lightning when the team won the 2003-04 Stanley Cup, Martin St. Louis -- who entered the league as an undrafted free agent -- also earned his share of individual honors. Most notably, he was awarded the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP in 2003-04, as well as being a two-time Art Ross Trophy winner and three-time recipient of the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.

Brett Gallant
Gallant Signed By The Blue Jackets
Brett Gallant, LW, NYI
11:00 AM
News: Brett Gallant signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Analysis: The 26-year-old had two goals and four assists while racking up 247 penalty minutes in 45 games last season with AHL Bridgeport. The 6-foot, 198-pound left wing adds depth and toughness to the Columbus organization up front. He will likely start the season with AHL Springfield and spend plenty of time in the penalty box.

James Wright
Isles Sign Wright To Two-Way Deal
James Wright, C, WPG
10:48 AM
News: James Wright signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Thursday.
Analysis: James Wright skated in the KHL last season, posting 19 points in 53 games for Zagreb Medvescak. He's previously appeared in 146 NHL games with the Jets and Lightning, but the Islanders seem to be viewing him strictly as a depth option for their AHL squad.

Bracken Kearns
Isles Add To Forward Depth With Kearns
Bracken Kearns, C, BOS
10:45 AM
News: Bracken Kearns signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Thursday.
Analysis: The 34-year-old Bracken Kearns played overseas last season, racking up 20 points in 45 games in the Finnish Elite League. He'll serve as a depth option on the wing for the Islanders at AHL Bridgeport.

Ben Holmstrom
Isles Sign Holmstrom To Two-Way Deal
Ben Holmstrom, C, CAR
10:40 AM
News: Ben Holmstrom signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Thursday.
Analysis: Ben Holmstrom suited up for AHL Charlotte in the Hurricanes organization last season, accruing five goals and 15 assists in 62 games. He'll function as forward depth in the minors for the Islanders.

Max Reinhart
Reinhart Signed By The Predators
Max Reinhart, C, NSH
10:37 AM
News: Max Reinhart signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Predators on Thursday.
Analysis: The 23-year-old signs one day after being sent from Calgary to Nashville for a conditional fourth-round draft pick. Max Reinhart has seen the ice in 23 NHL games over the past three seasons with the Flames, so although he'll get a chance to compete for a roster spot with the Predators, it's likely he'll start the season with AHL Milwaukee.

Jaime Sifers
Blue Jackets Sign Sifers
Jaime Sifers, D, CLB
10:29 AM
News: Jaime Sifers signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Analysis: The 32-year-old defenseman totaled three goals and 19 assists in 76 games during the 2014-15 season with AHL Springfield. The veteran, who has appeared in 37 NHL games throughout his career, slots in as a depth blueliner for the Blue Jackets.

Conor Allen
Allen Signs With Nashville
Conor Allen, D, NYR
9:40 AM
News: Conor Allen signed a one-year, two-way contract with Nashville on Thursday.
Analysis: Conor Allen, who recorded 11 goals and 34 points to go along with 113 PIM in 72 games for AHL Hartford last season, has seen action in seven NHL games to date, without recording a point. The 25-year-old will provide the Preds' organization with blue line depth.
