Player News
Jakob Silfverberg
Silfverberg Leads Ducks To Win Over Coyotes
Jakob Silfverberg, RW, ANA
12:08 PM
News: Jakob Silfverberg collected a goal, two assists and a plus-3 rating in Tuesday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: The points give him 30 on the year (10 goals, 20 assists), already well above his previous best of 23 from last season. The Ducks forward core is a fairly crowded bunch at the moment, so the 24-year-old will probably continue to have a hard time consistently hitting the scoresheet. However, he has fired 144 shots on goal this season, making him an intriguing option in leagues that count that stat.

Matt Nieto
Nieto Lifts Sharks' Offense Tuesday
Matt Nieto, LW, SJ
5:18 AM
News: Matt Nieto scored twice on four shots -- one into an empty net -- and added an assist Tuesday in a win over the Canucks.
Analysis: He'd managed all of one point in the prior six games coming into Tuesday's action, and with only 20 points on the year, the best thing we can say about Matt Nieto's overall production is that he's poised to pass the 24 points he posted as a rookie last season.

Mark Streit
Flyers' Streit Scores In Loss
Mark Streit, D, PHI
5:17 AM
News: Mark Streit potted the equalizer late in the third period in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to Calgary.
Analysis: It's Mark Streit's first goal since early February, but his fifth point in his last five games. He's on pace for his best points-total since the 2008-2009 campaign.

Jacob Markstrom
Canucks' Markstrom Yanked Early Tuesday
Jacob Markstrom, G, VAN
5:15 AM
News: Jacob Markstrom gave up three goals on the first four shots he faced and was pulled less than eight minutes into Tuesday's loss to the Sharks.
Analysis: Yikes, that's about as ugly a season debut as you can have. The only way this could have been worse is if he hadn't made a save at all. Once considered one of the league's top goaltending prospects, Jacob Markstrom has struggled mightily at the NHL level, but has stud-caliber numbers in the AHL. Maybe it's a mental thing.

Antti Niemi
Sharks' Niemi Saves 26 In Win
Antti Niemi, G, SJ
5:13 AM
News: Antti Niemi stopped 26 of 28 shots as the Sharks rolled past Vancouver by a 6-2 tally on Tuesday.
Analysis: Three early goals by San Jose should have made things easy on Antti Niemi, but a pair of Henrik Sedin tallies in the second period made the game closer than it needed to be for a time. Nonetheless, Niemi snapped a three-game losing skid while simultaneously posting his fifth consecutive game with a save mark of .900 or better. It's been a disappointing campaign for him, particularly in terms of wins -- Niemi's save percentage is identical to last year's (.913) and he has exactly as many regulation losses (17) and OT losses (seven) as he did last year, but with just 25 wins on the season, he has next to no chance to match last year's 39.

Jordan Nolan
Kings' Nolan Finally Notches First Assist
Jordan Nolan, C, LA
5:09 AM
News: Playing in his 41st game of the season, Jordan Nolan finally picked up his first assist of the year Tuesday in a win over the Oilers.
Analysis: Hey, isn't that nice. Jordan Nolan had scored four goals in his first 40 games, but effective playmaking had eluded him. Don't expect much more offense from the gritty winger, whose career high is 10 points; he offers modest utility in the PIM and hits categories, and that's about it.

Jordan Oesterle
First NHL Point For Edmonton's Oesterle
Jordan Oesterle, D, EDM
5:07 AM
News: Jordan Oesterle notched his first career point Tuesday, assisting on Luke Gazdic's goal in a 5-2 loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: The 22-year-old Michigander has a fairly modest 21 points to his credit over 49 AHL games this year, which doesn't point to a lot of offensive upside. But now that Jeff Petry's been shipped out of town, there's no one to boot him out of the lineup, so he could get some run at the NHL level for the rest of this season, albeit mostly in a bottom-pairing role.

Drew Doughty
Kings' Doughty Helps Out In Win
Drew Doughty, D, LA
5:04 AM
News: Drew Doughty dished out a pair of helpers and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Edmonton.
Analysis: A much-needed good outing for Drew Doughty, who showed up on the defensive side of the box score too, blocking five shots (his highest total since Feb. 12). He'd been cold in recent days, with just a lonely assist and a minus-2 rating over five games coming in, but you can't keep him down for too long.

Trevor Lewis
Lewis Helps Power Kings' Offensive Surge Tuesday
Trevor Lewis, C, LA
5:03 AM
News: Trevor Lewis stuffed the stat sheet Tuesday against Edmonton, rattling off a goal, two assists, a plus-3 rating and two penalty minutes.
Analysis: All that in barely 15 minutes of ice time. Trevor Lewis isn't a prolific scorer, as he still owns a meager 19 points in 54 games, and there's no reason to expect performances like this to become the new normal.

Anze Kopitar
Kopitar Leads Kings To Win Tuesday
Anze Kopitar, C, LA
5:01 AM
News: Anze Kopitar was named the game's first star Tuesday after picking up a goal, two assists and a plus-3 rating in a 5-2 win over Edmonton.
Analysis: A sparkling outing for Anze Kopitar, who had managed just two points and a minus-3 rating over the last five games coming in. It's been a disappointing campaign for the winger, as he'll need to score at better than a point-per-game pace the rest of the way to match last year's 70 points, and he has practically no chance to hit 29 goals this year, as he has only 13 to his credit thus far. Still just 27 years old, Kopitar should have years of productivity ahead of him, but it's concerning to see how much less he's shooting this year than in prior seasons. With 19 games left to go in the season, he's got 102 shots on goal -- 98 short of last year's 200.
