Player News
Ryan Getzlaf
Ducks' Getzlaf Iffy For Friday
Ryan Getzlaf, C, ANA
12:42 AM
News: Coach Bruce Boudreau said that Ryan Getzlaf's (upper body) status for Friday's Game 5 against the Stars is "up in the air" at this stage.
Analysis: Ryan Getzlaf -- who suffered multiple facial injuries after being hit with a puck in Game 1 of the series -- was a surprise scratch from Wednesday's Game 4 and regardless of what's currently ailing him, the Ducks' captain remains iffy for Friday's pivotal Game 5 at home.

David Backes
Blues' Backes Not On The Ice Thursday
David Backes, C, STL
12:06 AM
News: David Backes (head) did not take the ice Thursday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Of more import is what David Backes does (or doesn't do) Friday, as Game 5 of the Blues' playoff series against the Blackhawks -- which is now deadlocked at 2-2 -- continues that evening.

Matt Duchene
Avs' Duchene Out For Game 5
Matt Duchene, C, COL
4/24/2014
News: Matt Duchene (knee) will not play in Saturday's Game 5 against the Wild, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Matt Duchene was ruled out shortly after the conclusion of Game 4, which saw the Avs thoroughly dominated by the Wild. While the star center won't play Saturday, his team isn't in any position to take a cautious approach, with the series knotted at 2-2. Duchene has not been ruled out beyond Game 5.

Niklas Kronwall
Wings' Kronwall Comes Alive
Niklas Kronwall, D, DET
4/24/2014
News: Niklas Kronwall collected his first two points of this year's playoffs in Thursday's overtime loss to Boston, notching a power-play goal and an assist.
Analysis: A 49-point scorer with the Wings this year, Niklas Kronwall's generally expected to chip in a bit more than the zero offense he'd contributed in the first three games of the series. He played plenty of defense, too, putting his body in front of seven shots. Nonetheless, the Wings now trail 3-1 in the series.

Jonas Gustavsson
Gustavsson, Wings Downed In Game 4
Jonas Gustavsson, G, DET
4/24/2014
News: Jonas Gustavsson made 37 stops in Jimmy Howard's stead Thursday, but ended up falling, 3-2, against the Bruins in overtime.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson and the Wings coughed up a 2-0 lead, then ended up losing in the extra frame, so while he posted good stats, he clearly wasn't quite good enough. Howard missed this game with the flu and will likely return for Game 5 with the Wings fighting for their playoff lives.

Pavel Datsyuk
Datsyuk's Two Points Not Enough For Wings
Pavel Datsyuk, C, DET
4/24/2014
News: Pavel Datsyuk assisted on Niklas Kronwall's power-play goal and gave the Red Wings a 2-0 lead with his own goal in the second period, but they blew the lead and took a Game 4 loss to Boston, 3-2 in overtime.
Analysis: A loss like that can really take the air out of your tires, and the Wings have to be feeling particularly deflated now that they've lost three straight, including two at home, after winning Game 1. Pavel Datsyuk scored Game 1's only goal, then had been quiet in the second and third games (scoreless with just one shot in each), so it's good to see him get more involved again. But it might be too late with the Wings down 3-1.

Tuukka Rask
Rask Backstops Bruins To OT Win
Tuukka Rask, G, BOS
4/24/2014
News: Tuukka Rask put a stop to 35 of 37 shots Thursday in Detroit, coming away with an overtime win that lifted the Bruins to a 3-1 series lead.
Analysis: How good is Tuukka Rask? This was perhaps his worst game of the series. It featured his worst GAA (1.63) and save percentage (.946) in four games so far this postseason. So yeah, that good.

Dougie Hamilton
Bruins' Hamilton Contributes Key Helpers
Dougie Hamilton, D, BOS
4/24/2014
News: Dougie Hamilton assisted on Milan Lucic's game-tying goal in the third period Thursday, then helped out again on Jarome Iginla's overtime winner.
Analysis: Iginla's goal in fact came on a shot by Dougie Hamilton, which Iginla redirected off a Detroit player and into the goal. After going scoreless in the first two games of the series, Hamilton's come alive, as he scored what turned out to be the winning goal in Game 3 -- and, if anything, was better in Game 4.

Jarome Iginla
Bruins' Iginla Wins Game 4 In OT
Jarome Iginla, RW, BOS
4/24/2014
News: Jarome Iginla redirected a Dougie Hamilton shot off a Red Wing and into the net during overtime Thursday, giving the Bruins a 3-1 series lead.
Analysis: Iggy had collected two assists in the first three games of the series, but it took the 30-goal scorer 'til Game 4 to find twine. He's seeing hearty quantities of ice time, so the points should continue to come as the playoffs wear on.

Henrik Zetterberg
Red Wings' Zetterberg Returns Thursday
Henrik Zetterberg, LW, DET
4/24/2014
News: Henrik Zetterberg (back) will play in Thursday's Game 4 against the Bruins, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports.
Analysis: Henrik Zetterberg will make his long-anticipated return from a two-month-plus absence in hopes of reviving Detroit's offense in Game 4. While the winger is expected to see limited action, he should provide a jolt to the Red Wings and their fan base.
