News: Simon Despres, who saw the least number of minutes (15:05 TOI) among Pittsburgh defensemen Saturday, has zero points in seven games since being recalled after the Olympics. Analysis: He's taken five minor penalties in those seven tilts and seems to be an easy target for refs whenever they want to call a Pittsburgh penalty. There's a good chance Simon Despres would have been dealt at the deadline if not for ailments to both Paul Martin and Kris Letang. He has offensive potential, but an offseason change of scenery might be the best thing for him.
News: Sidney Crosby finished pointless with a minus-3 rating Saturday against the Flyers. Analysis: Linemate, Chris Kunitz, was a late scratch. After the first period, Pittsburgh tried pairing Sidney Crosby with Evgeni Malkin, but the Pens couldn't get anything going against a hungry Flyers team.
News: Marc-Andre Fleury allowed four goals on 40 shots in a Saturday matinee loss to Philadelphia. Analysis: The Penguins came out as flat as they have all year long. For his part, Marc-Andre Fleury made numerous stops to keep the game, 2-0, after 20 minutes. Of course, that's of little consolation to fantasy owners.
News: Darcy Kuemper will be between the pipes when the Wild take to the ice on Saturday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Analysis: Darcy Kuemper stopped 29 of 30 shots in Thursday's win over the Rangers. The netminder has been solid all year for Minnesota, and will look to continue where he left off Thursday when he takes the ice against the Jackets on Saturday.
News: Jack Johnson picked up an assist Saturday in a win over Minnesota. It's his first point in seven games. Analysis: He has 26 points in 67 games. You wanted more. We expected more. Both of us are tired. Maybe the team USA brass knew something we didn't when they left this so-called stud off their Olympic team. Use him if you must, but don't expect much.
News: Sergei Bobrovsky made 32 saves in Saturday's 2-1 shootout win over the Wild. Analysis: He's 6-1-1 in his last eight starts and just one of those -- the game against Chicago -- was a stinker (he was yanked). He's the reason the Jackets are in a solid playoff position. Use him well.
News: Jason Pominville scored his team-leading 25th goal in Saturday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Blue Jackets. Analysis: He's on a four-game, five-point (three goals, two assists) scoring streak and has been playing great hockey on a line with Zach Parise and Mikael Granlund. Use him well.
News: Pekka Rinne made 22 saves in a 4-1 loss to the Blues on Saturday night. Analysis: He had won the previous two games, but is 2-5 in seven starts since his return from injury. Not so funny thing? His teammates have scored just three goals in those five losses. He's fine, now if only his mates could find twine.
News: Alexander Steen notched his 30th goal of the season in Saturday's win over the Predators. Analysis: His career season continues. He has 53 points in 56 games, including seven in his last eight. We knew that early-season pace wouldn't continue, but we're more than happy with this -- no-one drafted him as a point-per-game guy, so it's all gravy (and good gravy at that).
News: Jordan Staal set up the Canes' only goal Saturday as Carolina dropped a 5-1 road game to the Bruins. Analysis: All the second-youngest Jordan Staal had to do for his 35th point was win the draw back to Alex Semin, who snapped a tricky wrister past the Bruins' Chad Johnson. Things haven't gone as planned this season for Jordan in Raleigh, but he has come out of the woodwork to record points in his last five. He'll need to average at least a point in each of the last 15 to games to match his career high of 50 points set with Pittsburgh. Will he do it? Probably not, but he sure looks comfortable between Semin and Jiri Tlusty and is a decent gamble to help supplement your scoring.
