News: Cody Eakin scored a goal for the second consecutive game in Thursday's win over the Coyotes. Analysis: After a nine-game scoring skid, Cody Eakin's found his offensive game again, but that's come along with mighty struggles in faceoffs -- he's won just 15 of 44 over the last two games. Still, most fantasy formats are more concerned with the points, and Eakin should put up enough of those to be viable in deep formats.
News: Ales Hemsky handed out a pair of assists in Thursday's win over Arizona. Analysis: While it's nice to see that the veteran winger now has three helpers in his last three games, he only owns four assists for the season and has yet to score a goal. Fantasy owners in most leagues can probably do better than the injury-prone Ales Hemsky.
News: Mike Smith took his fifth consecutive loss Thursday, giving up three goals on 27 shots against the Stars. Analysis: Two days after posting a respectable performance in an overtime loss to Washington, Mike Smith got back to putting up unpleasant stat lines. At this point, Devan Dubnyk -- who's easily outplayed Smith, especially lately -- has to be getting serious consideration for some extended run in goal.
News: Kari Lehtonen tightened up his game Thursday, stopping 26 of 27 in a 3-1 win over the Coyotes. Analysis: Coming on the heels of two consecutive miserable starts in which he gave up 10 goals in less than five periods of play, this is a huge bounce-back effort for Kari Lehtonen. He's been well below his usual standards this year, but it doesn't help that he's been facing a ton of rubber -- more than 30 shots per game.
News: Alex Tanguay suffered a jaw injury during Thursday's loss to Washington and had to leave the contest, the Canadian Press reports. Analysis: The veteran was hit in the face with an Alex Ovechkin shot, which doesn't sound like fun in the least. Coach Patrick Roy later said the team will know more about Alex Tanguay's injury Friday. As for Thursday's game, Tanguay only saw 7:15 of action and logged a minus-1 rating with no points.
News: Frank Corrado was recalled from AHL Utica on Friday, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports. Analysis: Dan Hamhuis suffered an injury to his right leg Thursday against the Ducks, and with his availability in question for Sunday's game against the Blackhawks, Frank Corrado was brought in as insurance. Corrado had three points in 11 games with Utica.
News: Curtis Glencross dished out his fifth assist in six games Thursday but the Flames lost to the Blackhawks 4-3. Analysis: Curtis Glencross has always been a maddening fantasy player, as he is ridiculously streaky. That being said, with the current roll he's on, now would be a good time to play him.
News: Daniel Alfredsson (back) told TSN's Darren Dreger that he doesn't intend to play this season, likely spelling the end to his professional hockey career. Analysis: Daniel Alfredsson hasn't directly informed the Red Wings of his decision, but he's expected to do so in the coming days after an injured disc in his back cut his comeback bid short. The longtime Senators forward was one of the best two-way players in the league during the prime of his career, and was effective all the way to the end, leading the Red Wings in scoring last season at age 41. He accumulated 444 goals and 713 assists over his 18 NHL seasons.
News: Josh Jooris added a helper to Thursday's 4-3 loss to Chicago. Analysis: Josh Jooris is off to a stellar start to his career, as he has four goals and four assists in 14 games. He's worth a look on the waiver wire, especially in keeper leagues.
News: Michael Ferland was a minus-1 in nearly 11 minutes of ice time Friday as the Flames fell to the Blackhawks 4-3. Analysis: This was Michael Ferland's first full NHL game after exiting his debut with a concussion. Calgary is high on his talent level, but he will remain on the fourth line for the extended future.
