Player News
Peter Harrold
Devils' Harrold To Join Lineup Friday
Peter Harrold, D, NJ
7:53 AM
News: Peter Harrold will replace Eric Gelinas in the lineup for Friday's game against the Penguins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Peter Harrold will skate alongside Jon Merrill, replacing Gelinas on the third defensive pairing. With just one point and no penalty minutes in 19 appearances this season, the 31-year-old Harrold doesn't offer much to get excited about.

Taylor Hall
Hall (Lower Leg) To Travel With Oilers To Calgary
Taylor Hall, LW, EDM
7:53 AM
News: Taylor Hall (lower leg) will travel with the Oilers to Calgary for Saturday's game but remains uncertain to play, Matthew Iwanyk of TSN 1260 reports.
Analysis: Taylor Hall has been sidelined for two games with the injury, but the fact that he's traveling suggests the Oilers continue to few him as day-to-day and aren't fearing a long-term absence. His availability for Saturday's match against the Flames should be decided by the morning of the game.

Eric Gelinas
Devils' Gelinas Giving Way To Harrold On Friday
Eric Gelinas, D, NJ
7:51 AM
News: Eric Gelinas will give way to Peter Harrold for Friday's game against the Penguins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Harrold will replace Eric Gelinas on the third defensive pairing, skating alongside Jon Merrill. Gelinas has been a healthy scratch on a number of different occasions this season, but he does have a respectable 11 points in 34 appearances.

Carter Hutton
Preds' Hutton Allows Four, Takes Shootout Loss
Carter Hutton, G, NSH
7:50 AM
News: Carter Hutton gave up four goals on 35 shots through 65 minutes and was defeated by the Blues in the shootout Thursday.
Analysis: It's a testament to how far Nashville's come that Carter Hutton and the Preds were able to hang in there with the Blues for 65, but his unimpressive netminding led him to his third loss in the last four starts. Since Pekka Rinne's injury, Hutton has posted a save percentage north of .900 just twice in five outings.

Nikita Nikitin
Oilers' Nikitin Out 'A While' With Shoulder Injury
Nikita Nikitin, D, EDM
7:49 AM
News: Nikita Nikitin left Thursday's win over the Sabres in the third period with a shoulder injury, Matthew Iwanyk of TSN 1260 reports. Coach Todd Nelson said postgame that Nikitin "will be out for a while."
Analysis: Brought in to stabilize the Oilers' blue line in the offseason, Nikita Nikitin has been a notable disappointment, as he's struggled to stay healthy and has generally performed poorly when active. It appears Nikitin has suffered another significant setback on the injury front, with at least a multi-week absence seemingly in store following Nelson's somber report after the game. His absence will likely create the opportunity for Keith Aulie to reclaim a regular lineup spot.

Mike Smith
Coyotes' Smith Beats Leafs
Mike Smith, G, ARI
7:41 AM
News: Mike Smith stopped 24 of 25 shots he faced Thursday in a win over the Leafs.
Analysis: Mike Smith has had consecutive good starts coming out of the All-Star break, stopping 63 of 67 shots (.940 save percentage). It's a two-game sample, so caution is warranted considering how terrible he's been this season, but it was around this time last year that Smith put together his best play. Perhaps the break allowed him to figure something out.

Martin Hanzal
Coyotes' Hanzal Scores In Win
Martin Hanzal, C, ARI
7:36 AM
News: Martin Hanzal picked up his eighth goal of the season Thursday in a win over Toronto. He was plus-1 with six shots and three hits in the contest.
Analysis: Coming off his first 40-point season, Martin Hanzal has disappointed this year, but it has largely been due once again to his inability to stay on the ice. His point per game rate this season is that of a 50-point player, but as has been the case in almost every season of his career he has missed more than 10 games this season and it impedes his production.

Niklas Svedberg
Bruins' Svedberg Sent On Conditioning Assignment
Niklas Svedberg, G, BOS
7:33 AM
News: Niklas Svedberg was set to AHL Providence for a conditioning assignment Friday, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: The Bruins likely just want Niklas Svedberg to get some game action, as he hasn't played in a game since Jan. 8, with Tukka Rask dominating the workload. Top goaltending prospect Malcolm Subban was recalled from Providence for the corresponding move, and while Svedberg will likely rejoin the Bruins soon, Subban's presence may eventually make the Swedish netminder expendable. Both Svedberg and Subban have been impressive this season, while Rask has been fantastic in January, following a disappointing first three months.

Andrew Cogliano
Ducks' Cogliano Scores In Loss
Andrew Cogliano, C, ANA
7:32 AM
News: Andrew Cogliano tallied the game's first goal and put four shots on net in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Sharks. He also contributed six hits in the defeat.
Analysis: Andrew Cogliano staked the Ducks to an early lead in the first period, but that was about the highlight of the night for his team, who surrendered six unanswered goals to turn the game into a laugher. Even with the tally, Cogliano is still far behind the half-point-per-game production he delivered in 2013-14, charting only 13 points in 49 games to date.

Malcolm Subban
Bruins' Subban Recalled From AHL
Malcolm Subban, G, BOS
7:29 AM
News: Malcolm Subban was recalled from AHL Providence on Thursday, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: For the corresponding move, fellow netminder Niklas Svedberg is headed to Providence on a conditioning loan. Svedberg has played well in limited action this season, and Malcolm Subban has been magnificent in the AHL. It's probably just the case where the Bruins want to get Svedberg some extended work, but Subban's presence may eventually make the Swedish goaltender expendable.
