News: T.J. Brodie signed a five-year, $23 million extension with the Flames on Monday, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports. Analysis: T.J. Brodie has been on fire to start the season, recording seven points in his last six games. The new deal will kick in next season, and keeps him in a Flames sweater through the 2019-20 season.
News: Seth Jones has just a single assist in five games so far this season. Analysis: Seth Jones has been skating primarily on the Preds' second defensive pairing with Anton Volchenkov, and is currently seeing about a minute less in ice time compared to last season (18:27 vs. 19:37). The learning curve to becoming an elite offensive defenseman in the NHL is proving to be a steep one for Jones, but keep in mind he is only 20 years old and still developing. Do not fret, fantasy owners - patience will be rewarded with this future blue line stud.
News: Olli Jokinen has zero points in five games for the Predators so far this season. Analysis: Olli Jokinen was one of three fairly high-profile free agent signings by the Preds during the summer, joining Derek Roy and Mike Ribeiro as a trio of veteran forwards who were supposed to jump-start the team's offense this season. However, Jokinen has thus far struggled out of the gate, playing primarily on the team's third line. Unless coach Peter Laviolette shuffles his lines and puts Jokinen in more of a scoring role, it's tough to see him making much of a fantasy impact. For now, put him on your bench until he can find a way to right the ship.
News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) will not play Monday against the Oilers, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports. Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was recalled from his AHL conditioning assignment Sunday, and is apparently ready to get back in the lineup. He won't suit up Monday, but will see action later on the team's current road trip.
News: Ben Bishop will start in net Monday night against the Oilers, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports. Analysis: Ben Bishop is 3-0-1 in his first four starts this season, and will look to stay hot Monday against a struggling Oilers squad.
News: Cory Schneider will start between the pipes Tuesday against the Rangers, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports. Analysis: Cory Schneider is coming off two straight losses in which he gave up a total of eight goals. He'll need to be better if he wants to pick up a win against last year's Eastern Conference champs Tuesday.
News: Brendan Leipsic has six assists in four games for the AHL Milwaukee Admirals so far this season. Analysis: Brendan Leipsic, who had previously been following the NHL's concussion protocol following an on-ice collision during training camp in September, appears to be back to full health. Leipsic could certainly be called upon to fill in for the Preds at some point this season, but it would likely be in a checking line capacity only.
News: Viktor Fasth's groin injury is not as bad as originally thought. Analysis: The team didn't offer a timetable for Viktor Fasth's return, but it's certainly a good sign that he was already back on the ice rehabbing. Richard Bachman will continue to serve as Ben Scrivens' backup while Fasth is on IR.
News: While Sam Reinhart, a healthy scratch for Saturday's loss to Boston, will make the current road trip with the team he doesn't seem guaranteed to play every game, The Buffalo News reports. Said coach Ted Nolan, ""Not 100 percent next game but he will play during this trip." Analysis: Sam Reinhart has no points in five games and seems like a candidate to be sent back to juniors once he uses up his non free NHL games before it becomes a service time issue. While his long-term future is bright, in single-season leagues he's pretty much worthless right now.
News: Corey Crawford will start Tuesday against the Flyers, Chris Kuc of the Chiago Tribune reports. Analysis: Corey Crawford has started every game for the Hawks so far, and will continue to get the majority of the starts as the team has a light schedule at the beginning of the season.
