Player News
Niklas Svedberg
Bruin' Svedberg To Start Thursday
Niklas Svedberg, G, BOS
9:37 AM
News: Niklas Svedberg will start Thursday's game against the Sabres, Amalie Benjamin of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Regular goaltender Tuukka Rask will get the night off after giving up four goals in his last start, so Niklas Svedberg will start for the fourth time this season Thursday. He has a very favorable matchup against a Buffalo squad that has lit the lamp just 10 times in 10 games.

Corey Crawford
Chicago's Crawford To Serve As Backup
Corey Crawford, G, CHI
9:32 AM
News: Corey Crawford (upper body) will be available as the backup to starting goalie Scott Darling for Thursday's game against the Senators, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Corey Crawford declared himself "100 percent" after taking part in Thursday's morning skate, so it would appear coach Joel Quenneville is just taking extra precaution by limiting Crawford to backup duties. Darling fared well against the Senators in his first NHL start on Sunday, likely leading Quenneville to feel comfortable with sticking with the backup netminder for a third straight game. Crawford figures to reclaim the net Saturday in Toronto, and should immediately assume his usual heavy workload for the Blackhawks.

Jonas Hiller
Flames Name Hiller Starter For Near Future
Jonas Hiller, G, CGY
9:29 AM
News: Jonas Hiller has been named the No. 1 starter in Calgary for the near future, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller has been spectacular his last four games, only yielding three goals in the process. Backup Karri Ramo hasn't been bad, but Hiller has just been better. If Hiller struggles, however, don't be surprised if Ramo gets another dose of starts.

Ray Emery
Flyers' Emery To Start Again Thursday
Ray Emery, G, PHI
9:28 AM
News: Ray Emery will be in the crease for Thursday's game against the Lightning, CSN's Sam Carchidi reports.
Analysis: Ray Emery turned in a third straight quality outing his last time out, and he will be rewarded with his fourth start in as many games Thursday. Head coach Craig Berube said earlier in the week he is simply riding the hot hand in going with Emery over Steve Mason of late, but Emery has been the far more effective of the two early this season.

Scott Darling
Blackhawks' Darling Back In Thursday
Scott Darling, G, CHI
9:28 AM
News: Scott Darling will be in the net for the Blackhawks' third straight game Thursday versus the Senators, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Corey Crawford (upper body) took part fully at morning skate and declared himself fully healthy after missing the previous five games, but coach Joel Quenneville will ease him back into action by listing him as the backup to Scott Darling on Thursday. Darling dominated the Sens in him first NHL start on Sunday, stopping 32 of 33 shots in the victory. Though Crawford figures to reclaim the net Saturday in Toronto and for a large portion of the Blackhawks' games thereafter, it seems Darling could still stick around as his primary backup over Antti Raanta, who will be in the press box Thursday.

Brad Marchand
Bruins' Marchand A Game-Time Decision Thursday
Brad Marchand, LW, BOS
9:24 AM
News: Brad Marchand (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Sabres, Amalie Benjamin of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Brad Marchand suffered an unspecified injury during practice Wednesday, and it appears that whatever setback he is dealing with could prevent him from playing Thursday. Expect an update on Marchand's status when the Bruins make a decision on his availability for Thursday's game.

Evgeny Kuznetsov
Caps' Kuznetsov Pots First
Evgeny Kuznetsov, C, WAS
9:21 AM
News: Evgeny Kuznetsov notched his first goal of the season in Thursday's loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: After opening the season as the fourth center on the checking line, Evgeny Kuznetsov has since been bumped up to the third line. The presence of Nicklas Backstrom and the thriving Andre Burakovsky above him on the center depth chart may prevent Kuznetsov from climbing much further, though the Capitals could move him to the wing if the team decides he's ready for a top-six appointment. Before that happens, however, he'll need to dominate with consistency against lesser third-line competition. Wednesday's goal was a good start, but his overall production on the season (four points, 12 shot attempts in nine games) has been lukewarm.

Jonathan Quick
Kings' Quick To Sit Thursday, Start Friday
Jonathan Quick, G, LA
9:17 AM
News: Jonathan Quick will not start Thursday, but he will be in the crease for Friday's game against the Red Wings, Lisa Dillman of the LA Times reports.
Analysis: The Kings are playing back-to-back games Thursday and Friday, so Jonathan Quick will be held out of the first game so that he does not have to play two nights in a row. Martin Jones will get the start for the Kings on Thursday.

Martin Jones
Kings' Jones To Start Thursday
Martin Jones, G, LA
9:14 AM
News: Martin Jones will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Penguins, Lisa Dillman of the LA Times reports.
Analysis: The Kings are playing back-to-back games Thursday and Friday, so Martin Jones will get the nod Thursday to prevent regular goaltender Jonathan Quick from playing 120 minutes in two days. Jones will likely need to be at his best Thursday facing a Penguins team that currently leads the NHL with 4.13 goals per game.

Evander Kane
Jets' Kane To Return Thursday
Evander Kane, LW, WPG
9:10 AM
News: Evander Kane (knee) will suit up for Thursday's game against the Devils.
Analysis: Evander Kane has been sidelined since injuring his knee in the season opener, but he is set to return to action after making it through Thursday's morning skate without issue.
