News: Adam McQuaid (lower body) did not practice Wednesday. Analysis: Though Adam McQuaid was able to skate on his own Wednesday, he left the ice prior to the start of practice. It makes a return Thursday against Edmonton seem unlikely, but the Bruins have yet to rule McQuaid out.
News: Avs coach Patrick Roy said Wednesday that Jan Hejda (knee) is still on pace to return to the lineup Saturday against the Wild. Analysis: So long as Jan Hejda continues to progress without setback, it seems likely that he'll beat the 10-14 day timetable initially set for his return from a knee sprain. Fellow blue liner Ryan Wilson (back) is also on track for a Saturday return.
News: Avs coach Patrick Roy said Wednesday that Ryan Wilson (back) is still on pace to return to the lineup Saturday against the Wild. Analysis: It's looking increasingly likely that Ryan Wilson will make his return Saturday, after spending more than a month on the shelf with the back issue, so long as he avoids a setback over the rest of the week.
News: Jared Cowen has been suspended two games for his hit on the Sabres' Zemgus Girgensons on Tuesday. Analysis: Upon review of the hit, the NHL Department of Player Safety has determined a two-game ban is sufficient punishment for Jared Cowen. He'll be forced to sit Thursday and Saturday, but look for Cowen to return to action Monday against the Blues.
News: Jimmy Howard is dealing with a knee issue and will not dress for Thursday's game against the Lightning, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports. Analysis: Fortunately, every indication thus far has been that the knee issue, which forced Jimmy Howard from Wednesday's practice, is minor. That said, Petr Mrazek was recalled to serve as Jonas Gustavsson's backup Thursday, and Howard's status for this weekend's games is uncertain.
News: Josh Harding will start in goal Wednesday against the Ducks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports. Analysis: Despite a rather pedestrian 3-3-3 road record, Josh Harding has been very stingy away from home to this point, with a 1.86 GAA in 10 games (eight starts). He'll get the nod Wednesday in Anaheim, then likely sit in favor of Niklas Backstrom on Thursday.
News: T.J. Galiardi (back) will play Thursday against the Hurricanes, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 the FAN reports. Analysis: Back issues have sidelined T.J. Galiardi for the past three weeks, but coach Bob Hartley said the 25-year-old will slide back into the lineup Thursday, possibly in place of Curtis Glencross. The Flames will have to officially activate Galiardi prior to the game.
News: Henrik Zetterberg (back) was placed on long-term IR on Wednesday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Analysis: The herniated disc in Henrik Zetterberg's back was initially expected to keep the 33-year-old out only two weeks or so, but he'll end up missing most, if not all, of December as a result. Even with a backdated IR stint, Zetterberg will not be eligible to return until Dec. 28. Petr Mrazek was recalled to take Zetterberg's spot on the active roster, after Jimmy Howard suffered a minor injury in Wednesday's practice.
