Player News
Jakob Silfverberg
Silfverberg Leads Ducks To Win Over Coyotes
Jakob Silfverberg, RW, ANA
12:08 PM
News: Jakob Silfverberg collected a goal, two assists and a plus-3 rating in Tuesday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: The points give him 30 on the year (10 goals, 20 assists), already well above his previous best of 23 from last season. The Ducks forward core is a fairly crowded bunch at the moment, so the 24-year-old will probably continue to have a hard time consistently hitting the scoresheet. However, he has fired 144 shots on goal this season, making him an intriguing option in leagues that count that stat.

Al Montoya
Panthers' Montoya Suffers Apparent Groin Injury
Al Montoya, G, FLA
7:57 AM
News: Al Montoya, who took the loss in Tuesday's 3-2 defeat to the Maple Leafs, was forced from the game midway through the third period with an apparent groin injury, USA Today reports.
Analysis: With starting goalie Roberto Luongo (neck) initially ruled out for the night after finishing out the first period with the Panthers holding a 1-0 lead, Al Montoya was called upon to man the net for the Panthers. Disaster would eventually strike 22 seconds into the third period, as Montoya appeared to hurt himself while scrambling to stop Nazem Kadri's game-tying goal. Knowing that Luongo had been ruled out for the game, Montoya initially tried to tough it out the rest of the way, but was rendered virtually immobile. Shortly after he conceded the eventual winning goal to the Leafs' Peter Holland at the 5:28 mark of the third period, Montoya was pulled for good. The Panthers initially appeared poised to turn to 41-year-old goalie coach Robb Tallas -- who hadn't appeared in the NHL since 2001 -- as an emergency option in the crease, but after a few minutes, Luongo eventually returned from the locker room to play the final 15 minutes. Though Luongo finished the game, it's clear that both goalies should be considered day-to-day in advance of Thursday's game against the Stars, as evidenced by the Wednesday call-ups of Dan Ellis from AHL San Antonio and Sam Brittan from ECHL Cincinnati.

Roberto Luongo
Panthers' Luongo Reenters Game In Chaotic Sequence
Roberto Luongo, G, FLA
7:48 AM
News: Roberto Luongo, who was removed from Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs following the first period after taking a slap shot the neck and shoulder area, reentered the game in the third period and finished out the Panthers' 3-2 loss. He stopped all 19 shots he faced on the night and wasn't charged with the loss.
Analysis: Upon being pelted by the Leo Komarov shot with four minutes remaining in the first period, Roberto Luongo remained down on the ice for a few moments and was examined by the Panthers' team trainer. Though he was permitted to finish out the period, Luongo remained in the locker room after the first intermission, with the Panthers deciding to rule him out for precautionary purposes. Backup Al Montoya then manned the net for the next 20 minutes before suffering an injury of his own 22 seconds into the third period. With no other goalie option on hand with Luongo seemingly ruled out, Montoya tried to play through the injury, but was clearly limited. After he conceded the game-winning goal, Montoya was mercifully pulled, with Luongo, who had been in street clothes just a moments earlier, returning to the crease. It doesn't look like the injury Luongo sustained is too severe, but with the Panthers recalling two goalies from the minor-league ranks Wednesday, he should be considered day-to-day in advance of Thursday's game against the Stars.

Antoine Vermette
Hawks' Vermette Decent In Debut
Antoine Vermette, C, CHI
7:32 AM
News: Antoine Vermette was so-so in his debut with the Blackhawks on Monday against the Panthers after the deadline deal with Arizona last week, ESPN Chicago reports. He skated for just under 13 minutes and only won 29 percent of his faceoffs.
Analysis: Antoine Vermette should see a bigger role on Friday against the Oilers. He centered the second line on Monday, with a takeaway and a giveway in the game. It will take some time to adjust to the Blackhawks' system -- but with Edmonton and Arizona, his former team, in two out of the next three games on the schedule, it will help him adjust.

Anders Lee
Isles' Lee Finds Back Of Net In Loss
Anders Lee, C, NYI
7:15 AM
News: Anders Lee netted his 21st goal of the season in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Stars.
Analysis: Anders Lee, a former sixth-round draft choice, has been one of the bigger surprises in the NHL this year. Only 30 skaters have more goals than the Minnesota native, and it's worth noting that he's fired 17 shots on goal in the past five games. Lee is quickly becoming a household name in the fantasy realm.

Ryan White
Flyers' White Collects Assist In OT Loss
Ryan White, C, PHI
5:32 AM
News: Ryan White added a helper to the box score in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to Calgary.
Analysis: After a four-points-in-four-games streak two weeks ago, Ryan White entered a zero-points-in-four-games streak last week. His fantasy value is of particular interest to dynasty owners, as he doesn't figure to have a tremendous impact on the remainder of this season.

Henrik Sedin
Canucks' H. Sedin Scores Twice In Loss
Henrik Sedin, C, VAN
5:30 AM
News: Henrik Sedin scored both Canucks goals -- one on the power play -- but went minus-3 in a loss to the Sharks on Tuesday.
Analysis: Vancouver fell behind early in this one, as goalie Jacob Markstrom put them in a 3-0 hole, but Henrik Sedin -- in tandem with brother Daniel, of course -- drew the team back within a single goal with a pair of second-period tallies. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, as the Sharks scored three unanswered goals after that. The minus-3 rating is a rare occurrence for the veteran center, who hasn't finished in the negative for a season since his rookie year, and with a plus-7 this year, he probably will maintain that streak. Speaking of streaks, Henrik's found the scoresheet in eight consecutive games, with an impressive five goals and 13 points in that span. He's starting to approach a point-per-game pace.

Claude Giroux
Flyers' Giroux Snags Assist In OT Loss
Claude Giroux, C, PHI
5:28 AM
News: Claude Giroux assisted on the game-tying goal in Tuesday's overtime loss to Calgary.
Analysis: Claude Giroux has six points in his last 10 games -- not exactly the kind of numbers owners would expect from one of the league's top players. He's also on pace to fall short of last season's points-total. While he's undoubtedly part of the NHL elite for years to come, the Flyers are entering what seems to be a rebuilding process. As a result, shrewd dynasty owners might consider moving Giroux.

Daniel Sedin
Canucks' D. Sedin Sets Up Brother Twice In Loss
Daniel Sedin, LW, VAN
5:26 AM
News: Daniel Sedin assisted on a pair of goals by his brother Henrik -- one on the power play, one at even strength -- and went minus-2 in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Sharks.
Analysis: Unfortunately, other than a Daniel Sedin-fueled second-period flurry, the Canucks weren't able to keep up offensively in this one. Daniel's goal-scoring remains way down from its old levels, but he's been piling up assists lately, having tallied 10 points (nine of them helpers) in his last eight games.

Patrick Marleau
Sharks' Marleau Gets Two Helpers
Patrick Marleau, C, SJ
5:23 AM
News: Patrick Marleau rattled off a pair of assists, a plus-2 rating and two penalty minutes Tuesday in a 6-2 win over Vancouver.
Analysis: That's a four-game point streak for the veteran now, in which he's got three goals and now these two helpers. It's also nice to see him finish on the positive side of the plus-minus ledger, as he'd managed to do that only one time in the prior eight games and had gone minus-7 in that span, cratering his season number to minus-16 before he pulled it up two notches Tuesday. At 35 years old, Patrick Marleau isn't the scorer he once was, but he's still been plenty productive if you can take the rating hit.
