Brad Stuart
Avs' Stuart Assists Twice Tuesday
Brad Stuart, D, COL
4:37 PM
News: Brad Stuart picked up two assists in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Blues.
Analysis: The two helpers marked the first points in 18 games on the season for Brad Stuart, who offers his most value to the Avalanche on his own end of the ice. The 35-year-old blueliner won't blow you away with his hit or block totals either, making him mostly a non-entity in the fantasy game.

Steve Downie
No Mumps Update Until Friday For Pens' Downie
Steve Downie, RW, PIT
4:30 PM
News: The results of Steve Downie's tests for the mumps won't be available until Friday.
Analysis: With the NHL observing a three-day break in the schedule for the holidays, the status of Steve Downie, Brandon Sutter, and Thomas Greiss will remain shrouded in mystery until the Pens reconvene for practice. Downie has already missed the team's previous two games as a precaution.

Thomas Greiss
No Mumps Update Until Friday For Pens' Greiss
Thomas Greiss, G, PIT
4:28 PM
News: The results of Thomas Greiss' tests for the mumps won't be available until Friday.
Analysis: With the NHL observing a three-day break in the schedule for the holidays, the status of Thomas Greiss, Steve Downie, and Brandon Sutter will remain shrouded in mystery until the Pens reconvene for practice. Greiss has already been unavailable for the team's past two games as a precaution.

Brandon Sutter
No Mumps Update Until Friday For Pens' Sutter
Brandon Sutter, C, PIT
4:26 PM
News: The results of Brandon Sutter's tests for the mumps won't be available until Friday.
Analysis: With the NHL observing a three-day break in the schedule for the holidays, the status of Brandon Sutter, Steve Downie, and Thomas Greiss will remain shrouded in mystery until the Pens reconvene for practice. Sutter has already missed the team's previous two games as a precaution.

Trevor Smith
Leafs' Smith: Fringe Fantasy Future
Trevor Smith, C, TOR
4:16 PM
News: Trevor Smith has two assists, nine shots and 35 hits in 20 games since his his call-up from the AHL.
Analysis: Geez -- with numbers like that he's bound to be a fantasy star. #sarcasm. Trevor Smith is a fringe option on the ice and even worse in fantasy.

J.T. Brown
Tampa's Brown Mired In Slump
J.T. Brown, RW, TB
4:04 PM
News: J.T. Brown has been a healthy scratch the last two games. He has just one point in his last 13 games and four points overall in 26 games this season.
Analysis: The Bolts are deep up front and a lot of guys -- not including J.T. Brown -- are having solid, if not breakout seasons. He's a fringe fantasy guy and should be jettisoned to the wire until he lights a fire under his game.

Brian Boyle
Bolts' Boyle: Just One Point In Last 22 Games
Brian Boyle, C, TB
3:54 PM
News: Brian Boyle has just a single point -- a goal -- in his last 22 games.
Analysis: He's still contributing hits, blocks and a few shots on net. And winning face-offs, too. But none of that is enough to make him fantasy worthy, even in the deepest and most obscurest formats. We're pretty sure you can find better.

Andrei Vasilevskiy
Bolts Reassign Vasilevskiy To AHL
Andrei Vasilevskiy, G, TB
3:50 PM
News: The Lightning have reassigned Andrei Vasilevskiy to Syracuse of the AHL.
Analysis: He was 2-1 with a 2.01 GAA and .940 save percentage during this call-up. He's 8-3-3 with a 2.34 GAA and .918 save percentage in the AHL this season and had been named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week on Dec. 15. He'll be back, but only if there's another injury.

Nicolas Deslauriers
Sabres' Deslauriers Finds Net Tuesday
Nicolas Deslauriers, LW, BUF
2:37 PM
News: Nicolas Deslauriers potted his third goal of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: A rash of injuries at forward forced Nicolas Deslauriers from his usual bottom-six spot up to the second line Tuesday, a role he's probably a bit underqualified to fill. While he was able to come away with a point, his overall scoring marks (10 points in 35 games) on the season don't make him much of an interesting fantasy option. Roster him only if you need help in the hits category, where his total of 108 ranks first on the team.

Chris Stewart
Point Streak Moves To Three For Sabres' Stewart
Chris Stewart, RW, BUF
2:33 PM
News: Chris Stewart netted his fourth goal of the season in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Red Wings. He's now tallied a point in three straight games.
Analysis: Slowly but surely, Chris Stewart is beginning to dig himself out of his painfully slow start to the season. His shooting percentage still sits a full seven points below his career rate, giving Stewart some potential to notice a surge in his goal scoring as the season progresses. Even if that shooting rate stabilizes, however, Stewart's plus/minus rating -- which currently sits at minus-15 -- might be too much of a drain to get much utility out of any increase in goals.
