News: Viktor Fasth has arrived in Edmonton and could start as early as Sunday. Analysis: The Oilers have done a solid job of upgrading their goaltending with the addition of Ben Scrivens and Viktor Fasth this season. Fasth could have a shot at the starting role should Scrivens falter but at this point in time he looks like the backup.
News: Vincent Lecavalier was ejected after twice fighting Capitals' defenseman John Erskine. The Flyers' center said the fight was "instinctive," according to Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly.com. Analysis: Vincent Lecavalier rewarded owners with 17 PIM as a result of the fight. But don't expect much more PIM-performances like this -- he's only earned four game misconduct penalties in his career.
News: Rickard Rakell was recalled from AHL Norfolk on Thursday. Analysis: The 20-year-old made a minimal impact with the Ducks in seven games earlier this season, but he's been highly productive for Norfolk, notching 14 goals and 23 assists over 43 contests. He'll likely play Friday in the event Teemu Selanne (flu) is not ready to play.
News: Martin Brodeur will start Saturday's game against the Hurricanes, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Analysis: Prior to the NHL's Wednesday trade deadline, there had been plenty of speculation that Martin Brodeur might be traded, but the report notes that the veteran goalie wasn't approached about possibly waiving his no-trade clause. As a result, he'll continue to work in tandem with Cory Schneider, who will start Friday's game against the Red Wings.
News: Cory Schneider will start Friday's game against the Red Wings, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Analysis: Moreover, Martin Brodeur, who will now finish up the season with the Devils despite rumors circulating that he would be dealt by the team in advance of the NHL's trade deadline, is on track to start Saturday's game against the Hurricanes.
News: Jeff Zatkoff was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate and appears likely to receive the start Thursday vs. the Sharks, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Analysis: With the Penguins beginning a back-to-back set out west, it appears Jeff Zatkoff will lead off, with Marc-Andre Fleury presumably drawing the nod Friday vs. the Ducks. Zatkoff has actually performed better on the road than he has in Pittsburgh this season, owning a 6-1-1 record, 2.50 GAA and .917 save percentage over eight appearances.
News: Radim Vrbata opened the scoring Thursday and tacked on a second goal in the third period of a 5-2 win over Montreal. Analysis: The tallies snapped a three-game scoreless streak for the veteran winger. With 17 goals and 42 points, he's again offering solid under-the-radar fantasy production.
News: Shane Doan picked up a power-play goal and an even-strength assist Thursday in a win over Montreal, giving him five points in the last four games. Analysis: Good to see Shane Doan back to producing -- prior to this stretch, he'd gone six straight games without a point. With 36 points on the year, split evenly between goals and assists, Doan's been a decent option for deeper formats.
News: Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored a goal and added an assist in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Canadiens. Analysis: Though he'd gone without a point over his last two games, OEL still has five points in five contests since the Olympic break. He's also collected eight PIM in that span, and if your league counts hits, you can't complain about the 10 of those he's collected, too.
News: Andrei Markov scored one of the Habs' goals and assisted on the other during Thursday's 5-2 loss in Phoenix. Analysis: While Andrei Markov has been racking up assists regularly, this was his first goal since a two-score game way back on Jan. 11. But over the 18 goal-free games in between, Markov collected a dozen assists to keep his fantasy owners satisfied.
