Calvin Pickard
Avs' Pickard Makes 17 Saves For First NHL Win
Calvin Pickard, G, COL
12:54 PM
News: Calvin Pickard stopped all 17 of the shots he faced for his first NHL win Saturday against Carolina.
Analysis: Pikcard didn't start Saturday's game, but was called upon in the first period after starter Reto Berra was pulled. Berra gave up three goals on 10 shots, but Calvin Pickard was able to step in and help the team comeback to defeat the Canes. With the way Berra has struggled this season, there is a chance Pickard could stick with the Avalanche once starter Semyon Varlamov (groin) returns from injury. The 22-year-old youngster is 1-2-0 this season with a respectable .913 save percentage and 2.66 GAA.

Steve Mason
Flyers' Mason Holds Jackets To Two Goals In Win
Steve Mason, G, PHI
11:18 AM
News: Steve Mason claimed his fourth win of the season Saturday, holding the Blue Jackets to two goals on 22 shot attempts.
Analysis: Steve Mason referred to the outing as the Flyers' best all-around effort of the season, as the team never trailed at any point and delivered sound play at both ends of the ice. The 22 shots represented the fewest amount that Mason had faced in his 11 full games this season.

Travis Hamonic
Isles' Hamonic Earns 15 PIM In Win
Travis Hamonic, D, NYI
11:14 AM
News: Travis Hamonic was tacked with 15 penalty minutes in Saturday's win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Travis Hamonic earned a five-minute penalty for fighting Steve Downie in the first period, then was later padded his total with a 10-minute misconduct with 30 seconds remaining in the contest. The blueliner typically offers most of his value as a scrapper than a puck-mover, as his 44 PIM and 48 hits over 16 games would attest.

Rocco Grimaldi
Panthers' Grimaldi Scores First Career Goal
Rocco Grimaldi, C, FLA
10:59 AM
News: Rocco Grimaldi scored his first goal career goal in Saturday's shootout loss to the Predators.
Analysis: The marker came with less than one minute left in regulation with the extra attacker on the ice, which sparked a comeback to get the game to overtime but eventually losing in the shootout. Rocco Grimaldi should continue to play for the Panthers until one of their regulars can come back into the lineup from injury. Scottie Upshall is day-to-day and considering Grimaldi can be sent down to the minors without having to clear waivers, he should be the first option to be taken out of the lineup.

Jaroslav Halak
Isles' Halak Solid Again In Victory
Jaroslav Halak, G, NYI
10:52 AM
News: Jaroslav Halak notched his sixth victory in a row and ninth overall on the season Saturday against the Penguins, stopping 27 of 28 shots in the 4-1 win.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak's winning streak looked to be in jeopardy heading into the final period with the two teams deadlocked at 1-1, but the Isles' attack heated up thereafter, scoring three unanswered goals to pull away. The netminder's season numbers aren't quite elite, but he's starting to look like a highly dependable fantasy option behind an improved Islanders squad.

Marcel Goc
Pens' Goc A Nonfactor So Far
Marcel Goc, C, PIT
10:48 AM
News: Marcel Goc went minus-2 over his 11:47 of action in Saturday's loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: The minus-2 puts Marcel Goc on the negative side of the plus/minus ledger for the season, but that's not the only area the center has made little to no impact for the Pens. He's contributed just one point, 18 shot attempts, 17 hits and two penalty minutes in 19 games.

Steve Downie
Pens' Downie Drops The Gloves Saturday
Steve Downie, RW, PIT
10:46 AM
News: Steve Downie spent 17 minutes in the penalty box Saturday against the Islanders.
Analysis: Donwie earned a five-minute penalty for fighting with Travis Hamonic in the first period and would later receive a 10-minute misconduct in the third. That penalty would ultimately yield a power-play goal for the Islanders that essentially salted the game away, but Steve Downie's fantasy owners won't be negatively impacted. The winger's 79 penalty minutes on the season lead the league and make him a major asset in that category, but he's not a total liability elsewhere like most bottom-six forwards. He's been a viable contributor on offense with his new team, netting three goals and seven assists over 19 games.

Thomas Greiss
Pens' Greiss Drops Spot Start
Thomas Greiss, G, PIT
10:40 AM
News: Thomas Greiss took the loss Saturday against the Islanders, yielding four goals on 35 shots.
Analysis: Called upon to relieve Marc-Andre Fleury for the back end of a home-and-home set with the Islanders, Thomas Greiss was able to keep his team in the game for the first 40 minutes, but came unhinged in the third period. He allowed the Islanders to pot three unanswered goals, effectively turning a close game into a blowout. Saturday's outing was only the fourth of the season for Greiss, who doesn't figure to see much consistent action behind Fleury.

Nathan Lieuwen
Sabres Send Lieuwen Back To AHL
Nathan Lieuwen, G, BUF
10:38 AM
News: Nathan Lieuwen was sent back to AHL Rochester on Sunday, Bill Hoppe of the Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Nathan Lieuwen was called up after Michael Neuvirth went on the disabled list so since Lieuwen is being sent back to Rochester it likely means Neuvirth is healthy again. In the AHL this season, the 23-year-old goalie has compiled a 3-4 record in 10 appearances.

Jimmy Howard
Wings' Howard Folds On Saturday
Jimmy Howard, G, DET
10:36 AM
News: Jimmy Howard surrendered three goals on 27 shot attempts in Saturday's loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: A couple of egregious turnovers by his defense proved costly to Jimmy Howard, who saw his record dip to 8-4-4 with the defeat. The netminder probably deserves some leeway for the poor outing, as he's otherwise been dazzling with a 2.03 GAA and .922 save percentage over 16 outings.
