News: Ryan Getzlaf briefly left Wednesday's game against Montreal late in the third period after blocking a shot with his left foot. Analysis: He returned shortly thereafter, but keep an eye on Ryan Getzlaf's status in the next few days in case he'll be forced to miss any time. Getzlaf leads all NHL forwards with 81 blocked shots this season.
News: Rickard Rakell ended a 15-game goalless skid with a second-period tally in Wednesday's win over the Habs. Analysis: He's currently playing on the Ducks' third line with Emerson Etem and new acquisition Jiri Sekac. The trio were the bottom three Ducks in terms of ice time Wednesday night, so don't expect their scoring to greatly improve while their opportunities remain so limited.
News: Ryan Kesler recorded an assist on Cam Fowler's empty-netter Wednesday night against the Habs. Analysis: Ryan Kesler now has points in three of his last four games, so it looks like he's worked himself out of the slump that plagued him for much of February. It's probably time to start rolling him back into your lineup.
News: John Gibson stopped 37 of 38 shots Wednesday night in a 3-1 win over Montreal. Analysis: John Gibson's stellar play of late is a nice luxury for the Ducks. He's managed to win six of his past seven starts -- pretty successful for a backup goalie. If Gibson can continue delivering strong performances in net, expect him to see a number of starts down the stretch, as the Ducks are likely inclined to keep No. 1 goalie Frederik Andersen fresh for their playoff run.
News: Eddie Lack is slated to start Thursday's game against the Coyotes, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports. Analysis: The matchup certainly looks good for Eddie Lack, with the low-scoring Coyotes in the midst of franchise record-tying, 10-game losing streak.
News: Coach Peter Laviolette indicated that Eric Nystrom (lower body) remains under evaluation, John Glennon of The Tennessean reports. Analysis: Laviolette's words would seem to suggest that Eric Nystrom's injury is being viewed as more than a day-to-day situation, so it probably wouldn't be wise to bet on a return to action over the next handful of games. As a fourth-line player with only seven goals and 12 points in 60 games, Nystrom's absence probably won't make many ripples in the fantasy realm.
News: Andrew Desjardins, who was acquired from the Sharks on Monday in a deadline deal, is expected to be on the ice for the Blackhawks on Friday against the Oilers, ESPN Chicago reports. Analysis: Andrew Desjardins will most likely be on the fourth line. With Desjardins expected to be in the lineup on Friday, Teuvo Teravainen would not suit up. The Blackhawks are hoping that a change of scenery will do the trick for Desjardins who had only eight points in 56 games for the Sharks.
News: Cory Schneider is slated to start Friday's game against the Blue Jackets, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports. Analysis: Cory Schneider -- who has allowed just one goal over the course of back-to-back wins -- will face a struggling Columbus squad Friday that is 0-6-1 over its last seven games.
News: Jonathan Quick was the first goalie off the ice at the Kings' pregame skate and is thus in line to draw the start Thursday against the Canadiens, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports. Analysis: Jonathan Quick will look to maintain the momentum he built Tuesday by stopping 21 of 23 shots in a 5-2 win over Edmonton which snapped a three-game slide for the Kings.
News: Ryan O'Reilly recorded an assist, three shots, and skated to a plus-2 rating in a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Analysis: Ryan O'Reilly has been an assist machine of late, tallying eight assists in the last nine games, the most recent one coming off of Gabriel Landeskog's goal late in the third period to seal the win against Pittsburgh on Wednesday. O'Reilly's production continues into the the month of March and the Av's second line of O'Reilly, Landeskog, and Nathan MacKinnon appear to have found their groove of late, scoring 12 goals in the last 10 games.
