Player News
Justin Braun
SJ's Braun Scores First Playoff Goal
Justin Braun, D, SJ
3:38 AM
News: Justin Braun netted his first career postseason goal, a game-winner, and posted a plus-3 rating in a Game 2 win over the Kings.
Analysis: Justin Braun is averaging just over 20 minutes per game and is a plus-5 through the opening two contests. He's played strong and is getting good ice time. Though, don't expect offensive production from him. He may get some, but that's not why he's out there for San Jose. Through 17 previous postseason games he had zero goals and one assist.

Matt Nieto
Two-Point Night For Sharks' Nieto
Matt Nieto, LW, SJ
3:35 AM
News: Matt Nieto bagged a pair of assists in a Game Two win over LA.
Analysis: The rookie winger has played strong in the opening games of round one, accumulating three assists and a plus-3 rating. After opening Game 2 to a two-goal deficit, coach Todd McLellan refocused the lineup on scoring depth, moving Joe Pavelski back to third line center. If the depth chart stays that way, Matt Nieto could be a beneficiary, as the top three lines would be full of offensive potential and tough for the Kings to manage.

Antti Niemi
Niemi, Sharks Win Game 2 Over Kings
Antti Niemi, G, SJ
3:28 AM
News: Antti Niemi stopped 24 of 26 to backstop the Sharks to a win over LA in Game 2.
Analysis: Antti Niemi let in two goals early, but turned into a wall as the Sharks rallied from a two-goal deficit to win 7-2. He's been solid so far, posting .912 and .923 save percentages in the first two matches. His next test will be to keep that going on the road.

Matt Duchene
Avs' Duchene To Start Skating Monday
Matt Duchene, C, COL
12:55 AM
News: Matt Duchene (knee) will join the Avalanche for the two-game road swing in Minnesota, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Matt Duchene will resume skating Monday, but it's still looking unlikely that he'll be available for Round 1. However, with the Avalanche already owning a commanding 2-0 lead, the series could end up going as few as four games, affording ample time for Duchene to rest up before Round 2 commences.

Joe Pavelski
Sharks' Pavelski Tallies Three Points
Joe Pavelski, C, SJ
4/20/2014
News: Joe Pavelski scored a goal and added two assists against the Kings in a Game 2 win on Sunday.
Analysis: Joe Pavelski has four points in these playoffs after a career best regular season that saw him score 41 goals and 79 points.

Jonathan Quick
Kings' Quick Lets In Seven In Loss
Jonathan Quick, G, LA
4/20/2014
News: Jonathan Quick gave up seven goals on 40 shots in a Game 2 loss to the Sharks on Sunday.
Analysis: Jonathan Quick, the former Conn Smythe winner, has now let in 12 goals in two losses. If Quick's play doesn't pick up, the Kings could be in for a short playoff stay.

Rene Bourque
Canadiens' Bourque Scores Another Goal
Rene Bourque, LW, MON
4/20/2014
News: Rene Bourque scored a goal on eight shots on net in Montreal's Game 3 win over the Lightning on Sunday.
Analysis: Rene Bourque only scored nine goals all season, but he now has three in his last two games, and has looked good. It probably won't last, but he has two 27-goal seasons to his name.

Carey Price
Canadiens' Price Stops 27 In Win
Carey Price, G, MON
4/20/2014
News: Carey Price made 27 saves on 29 shots in a Game 3 win over the Lightning on Sunday.
Analysis: Carey Price was mediocre in Game 1, but he's been strong in the two games following that, and most importantly the Habs are up three games to none. It is safe to say Price and Montreal are headed to the next round.

Steven Stamkos
Bolts' Stamkos: Two Assists
Steven Stamkos, C, TB
4/20/2014
News: Steven Stamkos, who had earlier taken a knee to the head, returned to the Sunday's game and finished with two assists. He also had a goal waved off.
Analysis: He has been doing his part offensively, but he is struggling to carry this limping squad. The Bolts are down 3-0 to the Habs this series.

Ondrej Palat
Bolts' Palat (Upper Body/Knee): Goal in Return
Ondrej Palat, LW, TB
4/20/2014
News: Ondrej Palat (upper body/knee) returned to action Sunday and scored a power-play goal in a 3-2 loss to Montreal. He also laid five hits.
Analysis: Ondrej Palat had an outstanding season and is showing real chemistry with Steven Stamkos. The Bolts may be headed for an early exit, but that doesn't mean you should forget about him. Mark his name down on that little list you keep on the side and be prepared to push him up a couple notches on next season's draft list.
