Player News
Calvin Pickard
Avs' Pickard Makes 17 Saves For First NHL Win
Calvin Pickard, G, COL
12:54 PM
News: Calvin Pickard stopped all 17 of the shots he faced for his first NHL win Saturday against Carolina.
Analysis: Pikcard didn't start Saturday's game, but was called upon in the first period after starter Reto Berra was pulled. Berra gave up three goals on 10 shots, but Calvin Pickard was able to step in and help the team comeback to defeat the Canes. With the way Berra has struggled this season, there is a chance Pickard could stick with the Avalanche once starter Semyon Varlamov (groin) returns from injury. The 22-year-old youngster is 1-2-0 this season with a respectable .913 save percentage and 2.66 GAA.

Nathan Lieuwen
Sabres Send Lieuwen Back To AHL
Nathan Lieuwen, G, BUF
10:38 AM
News: Nathan Lieuwen was sent back to AHL Rochester on Sunday, Bill Hoppe of the Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Nathan Lieuwen was called up after Michael Neuvirth went on the disabled list so since Lieuwen is being sent back to Rochester it likely means Neuvirth is healthy again. In the AHL this season, the 23-year-old goalie has compiled a 3-4 record in 10 appearances.

Jimmy Howard
Wings' Howard Folds On Saturday
Jimmy Howard, G, DET
10:36 AM
News: Jimmy Howard surrendered three goals on 27 shot attempts in Saturday's loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: A couple of egregious turnovers by his defense proved costly to Jimmy Howard, who saw his record dip to 8-4-4 with the defeat. The netminder probably deserves some leeway for the poor outing, as he's otherwise been dazzling with a 2.03 GAA and .922 save percentage over 16 outings.

Marcus Johansson
Caps' Johansson Breaks Point Slump
Marcus Johansson, LW, WAS
10:33 AM
News: Marcus Johansson assisted on a goal and attempted five shots in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Sabres.
Analysis: The assist ended a season-long four-game streak without a point, but Marcus Johansson's fantasy owners aren't about to complain. Thanks to a dramatic rise in shot attempts (1.33 per game in 2013-14, 2.35 this season), the 24-year-old has emerged as one of the primary offensive threats for the Capitals. His 13 points rank third on the team behind Nicklas Backstrom (19) and Alex Ovechkin (18).

Erik Karlsson
Sens' Karlsson Scores PP Goal In Loss
Erik Karlsson, D, OTT
10:27 AM
News: Erik Karlsson scored a power-play goal in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Blues.
Analysis: It was Erik Karlsson's five marker of the season, giving him a point in each of the Sens' last three games. Karlsson's 14 points rank sixth among all NHL blueliners, but he's a whopping nine points behind the leader, Calgary's Mark Giordano.

Jay Bouwmeester
Blues' Bouwmeester Struggling Mightily
Jay Bouwmeester, D, STL
10:19 AM
News: Jay Bouwmeester assisted on a goal, spent four minutes in the penalty box and finished with a plus-2 rating in Saturday's win over the Senators, but left with a lower-body injury late in the game, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Despite being limited to 16:40 of ice time in the victory, Jay Bouwmeester managed to turn in one of his better performances in what has been a dismal season, but the injury could represent another pitfall. It's uncertain if he'll be able to suit up for the second game of the Blues' weekend back-to-back on Sunday versus the Jets, putting the defenseman's streak of 737 consecutive games played on the line. With the Blues not holding a morning skate Sunday, Bouwmeester's status likely won't be known until pregame warmups.

Alex Burrows
Canucks' Burrows Unlikely Sunday
Alex Burrows, LW, VAN
10:17 AM
News: Alex Burrows (upper body) will likely miss Sunday's game against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Alex Burrows missed Thursday's contest and Saturday's practice, so it would be no surprise if he misses it. Linden Vey will likely slot in on the second line while Bo Horvat should dress assuming Burrows can't go.

Adam Burish
Burish Officially Clears Waivers
Adam Burish, RW, SJ
10:06 AM
News: Adam Burish officially cleared waivers on Sunday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
Analysis: Adam Burish had a terrible start to the season scoring just one goal and two assists in 20 games. Burish will likely report to AHL Worcester and remain there for the rest of the season unless San Jose suffers any injuries.

Mike Fisher
Preds' Fisher (Achilles) Nearing Return
Mike Fisher, C, NSH
10:01 AM
News: Mike Fisher (achilles) has been cleared for contact and was a full participant in Friday's practice, the Predators' official site reports.
Analysis: Back in August, reports suggested that Mike Fisher, who had surgery July 3, was targeting a late November return, so this week's news certainly suggests he remains on that timeline. Fisher will likely slot in as the Preds' No. 2 center behind Mike Ribeiro once he gets the green light to rejoin the lineup.

Mikko Koivu
Wild's Koivu Plays Despite Illness
Mikko Koivu, C, MIN
9:40 AM
News: Mikko Koivu (illness) had just one shot on goal in 18:45 of ice time in Saturday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Mikko Koivu missed the third period of Thursday's game due to the illness, but looks like he's back to full speed. The bigger worry is Koivu's lackluster production as an early slump has lingered and he now has just five points in 19 games.
