News: Sami Vatanen scored two-power-play goals and earned first star honors in Sunday's win over the Blues. Analysis: Sami Vatanen is a machine with the man advantage, netting all five of his points this season on the power play. After posting six goals and 21 points in just 48 games last season, the 23-year-old is well on his way to a career-year.
News: Ondrej Pavelec surrendered four goals on 29 shots for his third straight loss Sunday vs. Calgary. Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec hasn't necessarily been as bad as the losses indicate, but the team in front of him certainly has. Pavelec is a workhorse and the clear starter in Winnipeg, but don't expect much, as the Jets aren't good enough for Pavelec to put up strong win totals.
News: Mark Scheifele scored his first of the season in Sunday's loss to the Flames. Analysis: Mark Scheifele has had a slow start to the season, netting a goal and an assist in five games, to go with nine shots. Sunday was a good sign, however, as Scheifele's goal was assisted by Blake Wheeler, a player the team hopes Scheifele can mesh with on the top line. If these two find chemistry, Scheifele will start racking up the points.
News: Jonas Hiller stopped all but one of the 35 shots he faced in Sunday's win over the Jets. Analysis: A phenomenal outing from Jonas Hiller, who was really tested in the first and third period when his team was outshot a combined 25-11. Hiller has now won two straight games, stopping 83 of 85 shots in that span. Hiller is playing lights out right now and fantasy owners should take advantage. Remember, though, wins don't come as easy with the Flames as they did in Anaheim.
News: T.J. Brodie netted a goal in Sunday's win over Winnipeg, extending his point streak to six games. Analysis: What a start for the 24-year-old, who now has three goals and seven points in his first seven games. T.J. Brodie leads the Flames with a plus-5 rating and is currently averaging a whopping 25:10 of ice time. Playing on the top defensive pairing and top power-play unit, Brodie is well on his way to a big breakout season.
News: Dennis Wideman had a goal, an assist, four shots, two hits, and was a plus-2 in Sunday's win over the Jets. Analysis: Quite the night from Dennis Wideman, who logged 23:19 of ice time in the victory. He now has three goals and five points in his last three games after opening the season with three straight scoreless efforts. If he manages to stay healthy, there is no reason the offensive defenseman can't net 40-50 points with the Flames in 2014-15.
News: Johnny Gaudreau scored his first-career NHL goal and added an assist in Sunday's win over the Jets. Analysis: After a Mason Raymond shot was turned away, Joe Colborne passed the redound behind the net to Johnny Gaudreau, who used his speed to score a slick wrap-around goal. Gaudreau's two points Sunday were the first two of his career, but if he continues to skate with Raymond and Mikael Backlund on the second line, more points will follow. The 21-year-old rookie has a bright future and will be a key fantasy player in the coming years.
News: Mason Raymond netted a goal and two assists in Sunday's win over Winnipeg. Analysis: That's seven points (five goals) in seven games for Mason Raymond, who skated on a line with Mikael Backlund and Johnny Gaudreau Sunday. The former-Leaf has fit in great with a young Calgary team, using his speed and skill to create offense. Even though it's unlikely he maintains this point-per-game pace, a 50-point season is very reachable for the speedy winger.
News: Marek Zidlicky added three shots and two giveaways in 23 minutes of play on Saturday. Analysis: This makes the third game in a row that Marek Zidlicky has had a plus/minus of -1. Coupled with the two giveaways against the Sharks, it seems as though the lineup struggles on both ends when he is involved. However, it is still early enough in the season for fantasy owners to give Ziddles the benefit of the doubt.
News: Adam Henrique was one of five in Saturday's loss to the Sharks. Analysis: While Adam Henrique's goal output is nothing to rave about, his offensive aggression can be an asset to fantasy owners, especially given the amount of minutes he plays.
