News: Marcus Johansson bagged his 10th goal of the season in Saturday's win over the Penguins. Analysis: The winger is now riding a three-game point streak to salvage what has largely been a quiet month of December. Prior to starting the streak, he had just two points in his previous 10 games, and hadn't found the net since Nov. 29. It looks like he's finally starting to rediscover his offense again.
News: Michal Rozsival will be a game-time decision for Monday's game against the Predators, ESPN Chicago reports. Analysis: Michal Rozsival missed Saturday's game against the Avalanche due to the lower-body injury, and his status remains up in the air Monday. If he ends up missing Monday, his next chance to return will come Thursday against the Capitals.
News: Brad Richards (upper body) will play Monday against the Predators, ESPN Chicago reports. Analysis: Brad Richards participated in the Blackhawks' practice Sunday, skating on the second line with Kris Versteeg and Patrick Kane. Over 33 games this season, Richards has tallied six goals and 12 assists with a plus-9 rating. It will be interesting to see what the Blackhawks decide to do with the lines Monday when Richards returns, but Patrick Sharp was not among the top six forwards Sunday, making him the likely candidate for demotion.
News: Zbynek Michalek scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's win over Anaheim. Analysis: Zbynek Michalek now has six points in 35 games, to go with a minus-5 rating. Considering it's been five years since the 32-year-old surpassed the 20-point mark, don't expect much more offense from Michalek this season. Considering he sees almost no power-play time, Michalek doesn't provide much fantasy value outside of the deepest of leagues.
News: Kari Lehtonen made 30 saves on 33 shots in Saturday's win over the Blues. Analysis: Kari Lehtonen is now 4-1-0 in his last six appearances, giving up 14 goals in that span. The 31-year-old is 14-8-5 on the season, with a .904 save percentage and 2.99 GAA. While he gets the call almost every night for Dallas, the Stars have allowed a whopping 113 goals-against this season, with the disastrous Oilers being the only other team to yield more. Lehtonen is a great fantasy option if you're looking for wins, but if you want solid rate stats, don't expect impressive totals from Lehtonen.
News: Jake Allen gave up four goals on 24 shots in Saturday's loss to Dallas. Analysis: Not the best night for Jake Allen, who has now lost three straight games, giving up a whopping 12 goals in that span. While he remains a top fantasy option with an 11-5-2 record, his .899 save percentage and 2.76 GAA is a tad alarming. While he will likely remain the starter with Brian Elliot (knee) out, expect Allen to lose a significant amount of starts once Elliot returns -- especially if the 24-year-old continues to struggle.
News: Martin Brodeur will start Monday against the Avalanche, Lou Korac of the Blues' official site reports. Analysis: Martin Brodeur came in to relieve Jake Allen in the third period of Tuesday's game against the Avalanche, and stopped all of the 10 shots he faced. He will receive the starting nod Tuesday against the Avs, but his status with the team moving forward will be interesting as Brian Elliott (knee) nears his return.
News: Jonathan Drouin (illness) is questionable for Monday's game against the Maple Leafs and probable for Wednesday against the Sabres, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports. Analysis: Jonathan Drouin's illness cost him Saturday's game, but it isn't believed to be related to the mumps that has been spreading around the league. He was in the building Monday morning and rode the stationary bike, likely indicating he was feeling better. Drouin's status should be updated at some point before Monday's opening faceoff.
News: Justin Falk was reassigned to AHL Iowa on Sunday. Analysis: Justin Falk hasn't seen much ice time with the Wild since being recalled Dec. 11, averaging just 9:22 over nine games this season. He will head back to the AHL, where he should be afforded much more playing time.
News: Leo Komarov (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Sunday, David Alter of the Leafs' official site reports. Analysis: Leo Komarov' placement on injured reserve was a result of a move to add Christopher Gibson to the 23-man roster prior to Sunday's contest. His return date is still a bit unclear at this points, but it appears shortly after the change of the calendar to 2015 is a still a possibility.
