News: Martin Hanzal netted a goal and spent four minutes in the penalty box in Saturday's loss to the Kings. Analysis: After witnessing the birth of his child a day earlier, Martin Hanzal didn't join the Coyotes in Los Angeles until Saturday morning, but it didn't seem to affect his performance. The goal was Hanzal's first since Nov. 14 hat trick against the Canucks.
News: Ryan Suter contributed a pair of assists in Saturday's loss to Nashville. Analysis: It's good times for Ryan Suter's fantasy owners. The 29-year-old has delivered 10 assists in his last eight games, putting him at 21 points (one goal) in 29 games on the season. While his goal total is shockingly low, his 66 shots on goal suggest he will start finding twine soon. He's one of the best fantasy defensemen around.
News: Devan Dubnyk let in four goals on 35 shot attempts as the Coyotes fell to the Kings by a 4-2 count Saturday afternoon. Analysis: Devan Dubnyk and his mates came out looking groggy for the matinee, as the Coyotes were outshot in every period (35-17 for the game) and gave the Kings five power-play opportunities, two of which resulted in goals. The poor showing could prevent Dubnyk from grabbing his fourth straight starting nod Monday in Vancouver, but he still looks like a better option in net for the Coyotes at this time than Mike Smith.
News: Marian Gaborik scored for the fourth straight game with a goal and an assist in Saturday's win over Arizona. Analysis: Marian Gaborik's lit the lamp six times in his last four games in addition to adding a pair of assists. Both he and Anze Kopitar are finally beginning to show the chemistry that they displayed during the postseason, and it's resulted in a surge in production for both of late.
News: Zach Parise scored a pair of goals and added an assist in Saturday's loss to the Predators. Analysis: Zach Parise now has 13 goals and 26 points in 26 games, to go with a plus-8 rating. He has been super consistent this season, never going more than two games without appearing on the scoresheet. Keep him rolling.
News: Jamie McBain notched two power-play assists in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Coyotes. Analysis: An upper-body injury to Robyn Regehr allowed Jamie McBain to reenter the lineup for the first time since Nov. 29, and he took full advantage of the opportunity. With Regehr slated to miss the next two-to-three weeks with the injury, McBain figures to see close to a regular role on defense during that time, though performances like Saturday's can't be expected with much frequency. As a third-pairing player, McBain's limited time on ice probably won't afford him consistent chances at making an offensive impact.
News: Anze Kopitar dished out three helpers in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Coyotes. Analysis: Now this is more like it. After registering as one of the fantasy hockey's bigger disappointments for the first two and a half months, Anze Kopitar has now produced eight points over his last two contests, with five coming on the power play. That massive uptick in production has vaulted up his season total to a still-substandard 22 points in 31 games, but it at least gives him a fighter's chance of reaching the 70-point plateau again if he can manage a point-per-game pace the rest of the way.
News: Marco Scandella impressed Saturday, scoring a power-play goal, adding an assist, blocking four shots, and dishing out three hits in a loss to Nashville. Analysis: Marco Scandella has delivered of late, recording three goals and five points in his last eight games. The 24-year-old has been a fantasy gem this season, scoring a career-high seven goals and recording 12 points in 27 games. Averaging 22:01 of ice time, the blueliner has hit his stride in his fifth NHL season, potting three-game-winning goals, recording 55 shots on goal, and helping fantasy owners with 38 PIM. He's somebody you should be looking at right now. What a stud.
News: Charlie Coyle snapped a seven-game scoring drought Saturday, picking up two assists in a loss to Nashville. Analysis: The 22-year-old now has two goals and 13 points in 31 games this season, to go with an even plus-minus rating. While Charlie Coyle is on pace for a career-season points-wise, he hasn't been able to duplicate the scoring success of his carer-high 12-goal season in 2013-14. Centering Minnesota's third line, the youngster should still hit the 30-point mark in 2014-15.
News: Calle Jarnkrok scored a goal in just 7:43 of ice time during Saturday's 6-5 OT win over Minnesota. Analysis: Calle Jarnkrok, who normally skates on the Preds' third line, has been seeing fourth line duty of late, drastically reducing his already-limited fantasy appeal. He does not warrant much fantasy attention outside of ultra-deep leagues.
