News: Derick Brassard (undisclosed) did not practice Wednesday, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports. Analysis: Derick Brassard took a shot off the right skate Tuesday night against the Predators, so it seems likely that his absence was a result of that, although we don't know for sure. The center has five goals and nine assists in 32 games to date.
News: Sven Baertschi assisted on the Flames' lone goal in a 2-1 loss to the Bruins on Tuesday. Analysis: Sven Baertschi has been a little more consistent as of late, avoiding the healthy scratch and tallying two points in his last three games. While he's not yet the world-beater he's been expected to be, keep in mind he's still only 21 and has a lot of good years ahead of him.
News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) did not practice Wednesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports. Analysis: Ryane Clowe was able to work out off the ice Wednesday, and is expected to practice Thursday. He's probably just trying to get back into shape, so he should be good to go once he gets his legs back under him.
News: Matt Greene (upper body) is not expected to play Wednesday against the Maple Leafs, Helene Elliott of the LA Times reports. Analysis: Matt Greene was activated off IR on Tuesday, but it appears that he's not yet ready to return to the lineup. He'll likely need a couple practices to get back into shape, but should return soon.
News: Peter Harrold has a non-displaced fracture in his foot, and will be reevaluated in one week, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports. Analysis: Peter Harrold injured his foot when he crashed into the boards during the third period of Saturday's game against the Rangers, and will wear a cast for the next week. It sounds like the injury isn't quite as serious as it sounds, but he'll still miss the next three games at least, until he gets checked out again.
News: Evander Kane (lower body) did not practice Wednesday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports. Analysis: Evander Kane has been sidelined since November 29 with the injury, and is expected to miss Thursday's matchup against the Avalanche as well. The winger has seven goals and seven assists in 26 games to date.
News: Bryce Salvador (foot) practiced with the team Wednesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports. Analysis: Wednesday was Bryce Salvador's first time practicing with his teammates since injuring his foot on October 22. The Devils take on the Ducks on Thursday, but it seems unlikely that Salvador would be ready to return after just one practice. Once he gets a few practices in though, he should be able to suit up.
News: Martin Jones was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, meaning he will start Wednesday's game against the Maple Leafs, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports. Analysis: Martin Jones has only started three games this season, but has been nothing short of stellar. He has two shutouts, a .973 save percentage, and a .65 GAA during his time with the Kings since Jonathan Quick was injured. Ben Scrivens' play has fallen off a bit lately, so Jones could make a run at the backup job when Quick returns if he keeps up his recent play.
News: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his seventh goal and had the primary assist on Jordan Eberle's power-play winner in overtime Tuesday against Carolina. Analysis: RNH has largely delivered the goods in terms of points this season, with 24 in 30 games, but his minus-12 rating has certainly hurt fantasy owners. Those in leagues that count face-off wins had to be excited by his performance at the dot on Saturday, winning 18 of 25, but he took a step back there Tuesday, coming away with just eight of 22.
