Troy Grosenick, G, SJ

Troy Grosenick

Grosenick Stops 30 For SJ In Scrimmage Loss

News: Troy Grosenick got the start in the Sharks' second prospect scrimmage against Anaheim. He stopped 30 of 32 shots in a 2-0 loss.
Analysis: Troy Grosenick will start the year with AHL Worcester and will battle J.P. Anderson for minutes in net there. Should an injury occur or should San Jose trade Antti Niemi — there's been much speculation on that front — the battle for minutes between Anderson and Grosenick would gain significance as it's not 100% clear who is third in line on the depth chart. For now, his significance to most fantasy formats is nil, though Sunday's performance is a step toward being number three on for the Sharks.

Philippe Desrosiers

Desrosiers Gets Win For Dallas In Prospect Tourney

News: Philippe Desrosiers got the win for Dallas in the first game of the tournament, stopping 19 of 22 shots against the Rangers on Friday.
Analysis: Philippe Desrosiers got the start in game one, but the team went with Henri Kiviaho for game two on Saturday. Desrosiers, at this early stage, looks like he's above Kiviaho on the AHL depth chart with Jack Campbell as the number one. But it's a long way for Desrosiers to climb to become fantasy relevant with three netminders also in the system at the NHL level.

Leland Irving, G, CGY

Leland Irving

Bolts Invite Goalie Irving To Camp

News: Leland Irving will attend the Lightning's training camp on a tryout invite, reports the Tampa Tribune. He played last season with Jokerit in Finland.
Analysis: His numbers were good overseas -- he delivered a 23-18-12 record with a 2.14 GAA and .922 save percentage in 55 games. Competition will be stiff -- the duo at the NHL level is set and so is the AHL pairing, so he'll need to stand on his head to displace another twinetender.

Martin Brodeur, G, NJ

Martin Brodeur

Brodeur Would Entertain Offer From Montreal

News: Martin Brodeur says he would consider joining the Canadiens if the team made him a contract offer, reports TSN.ca. "This is Carey Price's team," said the free agent goaltender. "I would definitely still want to be the No. 1 goalie, but it wouldn't bother me to play in only 20 to 25 games during the season if I know I'll have fun playing within a winning team."
Analysis: Martin Brodeur, who has played all 21 of his NHL seasons with the Devils, delivered a 19-14-6 record, 2.51 GAA and .901 save percentage last season. The Devils did not re-sign him, choosing instead to go with Cory Schneider as their top dog. The Habs have Peter Budaj and Dustin Tokarski on contract, so it would be odd to ink the 42-year-old Brodeur. But stranger things have happened. Marty's best fantasy days are far in the rear-view mirror, regardless of where (or if) he lands.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere, G, COL

Jean-Sebastien Giguere

FA Giguere To Announce Retirement Next Week

News: Jean-Sebastien Giguere will announce his retirement from the NHL next week, Elliot Teaford of the Daily Breeze reports.
Analysis: Jean-Sebastien Giguere's last start came in the season finale for Avs, saving 33 of 36 shots. He has had a long NHL career, first starting in the NHL in the 1996-97 season. His best seasons came with the Ducks, including a playoff MVP performance in the 2002-03 season. Giguere was a free agent in the offseason, and rather than look for a contract for another season likely serving as a backup, the 37-year-old goaltender will hang up his skates.

Malcolm Subban, G, BOS

Malcolm Subban

Opportunity Knocks For Bruins' Subban

News: Malcolm Subban is slated to participate in the Bruins' annual summer development camp, which runs from Wednesday through Sunday, the Providence Journal reports.
Analysis: With Chad Johnson having signed with the Islanders, Niklas Svedberg would appear to have the edge in claiming the job as Tuukka Rask's top backup in 2014-15. In such a scenario, Malcolm Subban would have a chance to see plenty of action this coming season as AHL Providence's top netminder. In his first campaign as a pro, Subban put together a 15-10-5 record, 2.31 GAA and .920 save percentage in 33 games for Providence while working in tandem with Svedberg, who appeared in 45 AHL contests. With Rask in his prime, the Bruins have no reason to rush the 20-year-old Subban to the NHL, but the 2012 first-rounder remains a top prospect and thus maintains value in keeper formats.

Harri Sateri, G, SJ

Harri Sateri

Sateri Given Qualifying Offer by Sharks

News: Harri Sateri was given a qualifying offer by the Sharks on Monday, ensuring they retain his negotiating rights.
Analysis: Harri Sateri is unlikely to sign a contract, as he inked a deal with Vityaz Podolsk of the KHL in May, saying that was best for his development. That must not have offended San Jose too much, as they've made an offer in order to retain his NHL rights. Don't expect to see him in a Sharks jersey anytime soon.
