Malcolm Subban

Opportunity Knocks For Bruins' Subban

News: Malcolm Subban is slated to participate in the Bruins' annual summer development camp, which runs from Wednesday through Sunday, the Providence Journal reports.
Analysis: With Chad Johnson having signed with the Islanders, Niklas Svedberg would appear to have the edge in claiming the job as Tuukka Rask's top backup in 2014-15. In such a scenario, Malcolm Subban would have a chance to see plenty of action this coming season as AHL Providence's top netminder. In his first campaign as a pro, Subban put together a 15-10-5 record, 2.31 GAA and .920 save percentage in 33 games for Providence while working in tandem with Svedberg, who appeared in 45 AHL contests. With Rask in his prime, the Bruins have no reason to rush the 20-year-old Subban to the NHL, but the 2012 first-rounder remains a top prospect and thus maintains value in keeper formats.

Dubnyk Signs With Coyotes

News: Devan Dubnyk has signed a one-year deal with the Coyotes worth $800,000, the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: With Thomas Greiss having signed with the Penguins, Devan Dubnyk (a former starter with the Oilers) now slots in as Mike Smith's top backup for the Coyotes. He regressed badly last season, posting a 3.36 GAA and .894 save percentage over 32 games, but with a far better defense in front of him in Phoenix, it shouldn't be hard for Dubnyk to improve those crooked numbers.

Sateri Given Qualifying Offer by Sharks

News: Harri Sateri was given a qualifying offer by the Sharks on Monday, ensuring they retain his negotiating rights.
Analysis: Harri Sateri is unlikely to sign a contract, as he inked a deal with Vityaz Podolsk of the KHL in May, saying that was best for his development. That must not have offended San Jose too much, as they've made an offer in order to retain his NHL rights. Don't expect to see him in a Sharks jersey anytime soon.

Leafs Interested In Brodeur?

News: The Leafs have expressed interest in Martin Brodeur, but they are looking for a backup, not a starter, reports Tom Gulitti of the Bergen County Record.
Analysis: The info came straight from President Brendan Shanahan, who was at the draft in Philly. It's hard to think Marty would go to Toronto and even harder to see him as a backup ... even though that's his best option right now.

Stars Will Not Make Contract Offer To Thomas

News: The Stars announced Tuesday that they will not make a contract offer to Tim Thomas, Dallas Morning News.
Analysis: Tim Thomas is 40-years old and started the season in Florida before being traded to Dallas where he spent time as Kari Lehtonen's back-up. He finished the season with 48 games played, a 2.88 goals against, and a .908 save percentage.

Ilya Bryzgalov

Wild Unlikely To Re-Sign Bryzgalov

News: The Wild are not expected to try and sign Ilya Bryzgalov when he becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: It looks like the Wild plan to go into training camp with three goalies and have a competition for the starting job between Niklas Backstrom, Darcy Kuemper and Josh Harding. Ilya Bryzgalov should find a robust market for his services after a strong playoff performance (2.63 GAA in nine games) when the other three Wild goalies were injured.

Rangers' LeNeveu Practices in Talbot's Absence

News: David LeNeveu practiced with the team on Sunday, reports Andrew Gross of The Record.
Analysis: With the team's usual back-up Cam Talbot reportedly dealing with an eye injury, David LeNeveu could dress as King Henrik's back-up in game one on Wednesday. The 31-year-old Canadian goaltender, who has just 22 games of NHL experience (5-9, 3.43 GAA), was actually placed on waivers and re-assigned to AHL Hartford in January. Nonetheless, LeNeveu posted a solid 12-8-2 record (2.46 GAA) in 22 games played with Hartford this season.
