Daniel Carcillo, LW, CHI

Daniel Carcillo

Retirement Imminent For Hawks' Carcillo

News: Daniel Carcillo told Kap and Haugh of WGN Radio on Wednesday that he's "about 98 percent ready to move on" from professional hockey.
Analysis: The news isn't especially surprising after the Chicago Tribune reported earlier this month that Daniel Carcillo was focusing his offseason efforts on establishing a not-for-profit organization for post-career NHL players. Carcillo's rough-around-the-edges game doesn't really fit well in the modern NHL, which has resulted in him receiving limited interest in free agency this summer. Unless the 30-year-old has a change of heart once training camps start up in September, expect him to formally announce his retirement at some point in the near future.

Tomas Vincour, RW, COL

Tomas Vincour

Avs' Vincour Signs With Foreign Club

News: Tomas Vincour signed a one-year contract with Sibir Novosibirsk of the KHL, General Fanager reports.
Analysis: Tomas Vincour didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Avalanche after skating in seven games with the big club a season ago. The 24-year-old will aim to restore some value overseas before potentially pursuing an NHL return next summer.

Eriah Hayes, RW, SJ

Eriah Hayes

Hayes Signs With AHL Chicago

News: Eriah Hayes has signed an AHL contract with the Chicago Wolves, the team announced on Thursday.
Analysis: The contract is an AHL deal and not a two-way deal for the NHL, which means that Eriah Hayes is unlikely to find himself NHL time this season and won't have an impact on fantasy leagues.

8/5/2015

Sergei Tolchinsky, LW, CAR

Sergei Tolchinsky

Canes' Prospect Tolchinsky Turning Heads

News: Shugg was extremely impressive at the Hurricanes' recent prospects camp, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Sergei Tolchinsky, who was undrafted two years ago after his first season of hockey in North America, went on to post 91 and 95 points, respectively, in his next two seasons with the Soo Greyhounds of the OHL. Now, video of his dazzling training camp plays are being featured regularly on the Hurricanes' Twitter feed. Looking ahead, there is no doubt that Tolchinsky has the offensive ability to make an impact in the NHL - it's just a matter of when. The most likely scenario is for him to open the upcoming season at AHL Charlotte; however, the Hurricanes are starved for offense, and if Tolchinsky has another strong showing at training camp in September, he could very well skip over the AHL entirely and start the season with the big club. Monitor closely, and don't be afraid to take a flyer on the young Russian in the later rounds of your fantasy drafts.

Dainius Zubrus, RW, NJ

Dainius Zubrus

Devils Release Veteran Winger Zubrus

News: The Devils terminated Dainius Zubrus' contract Wednesday, making him an unrestricted free agent, Frank Seravalli of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Dainius Zubrus had never been much of a top-flight offensive producer in his eight seasons in a Devils uniform, but he saw his scoring output completely fall off a cliff in 2014-15, as he netted just four goals and 10 points across 74 games. With the Devils looking to give some younger players an opportunity in their forward ranks and Zubrus' ice time likely to decline even further in the coming season, the team decided it wasn't worthwhile to keep him around at his $3.1 million cap hit. The 37-year-old could conceivably latch on in a depth role with another club, but no matter where he ultimately lands, an ascension to fantasy relevance probably isn't in the cards.

Turner Elson, LW, CGY

Turner Elson

Elson Inks One-Year Deal With Calgary

News: Turner Elson signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Flames on Friday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports.
Analysis: Turner Elson played well for AHL Adirondack last season, registering 30 points (17 goals, 13 assists) in 59 games with the team. The 22-year-old will likely spend the majority of the 2015-16 season continuing to develop in the AHL.

7/17/2015

Trevor Parkes, RW, DET

Trevor Parkes

Parkes Signs AHL Only Contract With San Jose

News: Trevor Parkes signed a one-year AHL only contract with the San Jose Barracuda on Thursday.
Analysis: Trevor Parkes registered nine points in 20 games with AHL Worcester last season. He will attempt to put a solid 2015-16 campaign together with AHL San Jose in hopes of drawing some attention from NHL clubs next offseason.

7/16/2015

Wacey Hamilton, RW, OTT

Wacey Hamilton

Hamilton Signs With AHL Utica

News: Wacey Hamilton signed a one-year minor-league contract with the AHL's Utica Comets on Thursday.
Analysis: The 24-year-old has never been able to break into the NHL, but has shown flashes of promise here and there. If he's able to put together a solid season with Utica in 2015-16, he could draw some interest from NHL clubs next year. Wacey Hamilton tallied 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) with the Comets last season.

7/16/2015

Jason Williams, RW, EDM

Jason Williams

Williams Signs With German Team

News: Jason Williams has signed a one-year contract with Kolner Haie of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: The former Penguins forward spent all of 2014-15 with AHL Oklahoma City, tallying 53 points in 72 games. At 34 years old, Jason Williams seemingly couldn't land a gig anywhere in the NHL, so he'll instead take his talents overseas.

7/16/2015

Quinton Howden, LW, FLA

Quinton Howden

Howden Re-Signs With Panthers

News: Quinton Howden signed a one-year (two-way) contract with the Panthers on Wednesday.
Analysis: The speedy winger will once again compete for a roster spot with the Panthers in training camp, but will likely spend the majority of the 2015-16 campaign continuing to develop in the AHL. He tallied a total of 18 points in 33 games with AHL San Antonio last season.

7/15/2015

John McFarland, RW, FLA

John McFarland

McFarland Inks One-Year Deal With Panthers

News: John McFarland signed a one-year (two-way) contract with the Panthers on Wednesday.
Analysis: The 23-year-old winger will get a chance to compete for a roster spot with the Panthers in training camp. He played pretty well with AHL San Antonio last season, racking up 19 points in 46 games with the team.

7/14/2015

Mike Halmo, LW, NYI

Mike Halmo

Halmo Accepts Qualifying Offer From Islanders

News: Mike Halmo has accepted his qualifying offer from the Islanders, reports Arthur Staple of Newsday.
Analysis: Mike Halmo will begin the season with Bridgeport of the AHL. He is not one of the Islanders' top prospects but could see a call up should injuries or ineffective play hit the bottom six forwards. He is a high-energy player who adds a little bit of everything but shouldn't be on anyone's fantasy radar unless you're playing in an extremely deep league.

7/13/2015

Sergei Kostitsyn, LW, NSH

Sergei Kostitsyn

Kostityn Signs Wtih KHL Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod

News: Kostityn signed a contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod on Monday, Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo! Sports reports.
Analysis: Kostityn will join his older brother Andrei, who also signed with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod this offseason. A return to the NHL for Sergei is growing less and less likely with each passing season.

7/13/2015

Andrei Kostitsyn, LW, FLA

Andrei Kostitsyn

Kostitsyn Staying In KHL

News: Andrei Kostitsyn signed a two-year contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod of the KHL on Monday, Igor Eronko of Sport-Express reports.
Analysis: Andrei Kostitsyn was reportedly considering pursuing a return to the NHL this summer, but it appears as though he may not have garnered enough interest from NHL teams in order for that to come to fruition. He may, however, attempt to return to the NHL again in 2016-17, as the second year of his two-year deal with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod of the KHL is a player option, meaning he could opt out of the contract in order to make a return to the NHL.

7/11/2015

Alexandre Grenier, RW, VAN

Alexandre Grenier

Grenier Re-Signs With Canucks

News: Alexandre Grenier signed a one-year contract with the Canucks on Tuesday.
Analysis: The 23-year-old racked up 17 goals and 26 assists in 67 games with AHL Utica in 2014-15. The Canucks are pretty deep at forward, but Alexandre Grenier will still get an opportunity to compete for a roster spot in training camp.

7/11/2015

William Nylander, RW, TOR

William Nylander

Nylander To Play Center For Leafs' AHL Team

News: William Nylander, who is at the Leafs' development camp in Collingwood, Ontario this week, will be groomed as a center with the AHL Toronto Marlies this coming season, according to a report on Toronto's Sportsnet 590 The FAN.
Analysis: Assistant general manager Kyle Dubas was quick to tell the station that William Nylander had played pivot for MODO overseas and held his own against cagey vets, so there's no issue on his size or commitment to his own zone. He remains a work in progress, though -- his offensive instincts are at the top of the chart, but his two-way awareness needs refining. That said, a full season (or two) under the tutelage of new coach Sheldon Keefe, with input from Mike Babcock, could mould this creative young player into a effective, difference-making pro. Just don't expect him to be with the big club soon -- Babcock's presence could well turn the Buds' system into a slow and steady one, just like the Wings'.

7/10/2015

Michael Dal Colle, LW, NYI

Michael Dal Colle

Could Dal Colle Start Season With Islanders?

News: Dal Michael Dal Colle is being told that he has a chance to begin the season with the Islanders, according to Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: This is more than likely just extra motivation for Dal Michael Dal Colle to make sure he comes into camp with the right mindset. He is projected to eventually be a top line player but that time is more than likely not going to be this season. He should be returned to juniors - he can't play in the AHL as he is only 19 years old, but his future is bright and he is someone to look at in dynasty and/or keeper leagues.

7/10/2015

Marek Hrivik, LW, NYR

Marek Hrivik

Hrivik Signs Deal With Rangers

News: Marek Hrivik signed a contract with the Rangers on Friday. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Analysis: Marek Hrivik attended the Rangers training camp before the start of last season, but ultimately ended up spending the entirety of 2014-15 with AHL Hartford. He tallied 12 goals and 21 assists in 72 games with Hartford, and will once again compete for a roster spot in training camp this year.

7/9/2015

Matt Ellis, LW, BUF

Matt Ellis

Ellis Signs One-Year AHL Contract

News: Matt Ellis signed a one-year AHL contract with the Rochester Americans on Thursday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: The 33-year-old played in 39 games with the Sabres last season, but was largely a non-factor, only managing to register two points over that span. What Matt Ellis lacks in on-ice production he makes up for with veteran leadership, a quality he will bring to AHL Rochester in 2015-16.

7/9/2015

Paul Bissonnette, LW, STL

Paul Bissonnette

Bissonnette Signs AHL Deal With Kings

News: Paul Bissonnette signed Wednesday with the Kings on an AHL deal, Dhiren Mahiban of The Canadian Press reports.
Analysis: Bissonnete will report to the Kings' new affiliate in Ontario after accruing seven points and 167 PIM in 48 games for AHL Manchester last season. The 30-year-old brings a physical edge, but his style of play doesn't translate very well to today's NHL.

7/6/2015

Rich Clune, LW, NSH

Rich Clune

Leafs Sign Clune TO AHL Deal

News: Rich Clune signed an AHL deal with Toronto over the weekend.
Analysis: Bought out of the final year of his contract by the Predators before free agency started, Rich Clune will head north to continue his career after recording 17 points in 62 games for AHL Milwaukee last season while making one appearance with their parent club in Nashville. Clune, who recently opened up in The Players' Tribune about his prior struggle with drug and alcohol addiction, has been sober for five years and could reemerge as a fourth-line option for the Maple Leafs at some point in 2015-16 if he first excels with their farm team.

7/4/2015

Cory Conacher, LW, VAN

Cory Conacher

Former Senator Conacher Heads To Switzerland

News: Cory Conacher signed a contract Thursday with SC Bern of the Swiss Elite League, David Pagnotta of TheFourthPeriod.com reports.
Analysis: After flaming out with a number of NHL clubs over the last two seasons, Cory Conacher will now try to recoup some value over in Europe. Conacher is still just 25 years old, so the door is hardly closed for a return to the NHL down the road.

7/3/2015

Cole Schneider, LW, OTT

Cole Schneider

Sens Sign Schneider To One-Year Deal

News: Cole Schneider signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Senators on Thursday.
Analysis: The 24-year-old Cole Schneider will more than likely return to AHL Binghamton for the fourth straight season. He recorded 29 goals and 58 points in 69 games for Binghamton in 2014-15.

7/2/2015

Trevor Smith, LW, TOR

Trevor Smith

Ex-Maple Leaf Smith Headed For Switzerland

News: Trevor Smith signed a two-year contract Wednesday with Bern of the Swiss Elite League, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Despite suiting up in 54 games in the NHL last season with the Maple Leafs, Trevor Smith wasn't likely to command much interest in free agency on anything more than a two-way deal. As a result, he'll opt to head to Europe, where he likely received a more lucrative offer. At 30 years old, Smith could still surface in the NHL again somewhere down the line.

7/2/2015

Cody Beach, RW, STL

Cody Beach

Blues Re-Sign Beach

News: Cody Beach re-signed with the Blues on Wednesday on a one-year, two-way contract.
Analysis: Cody Beach racked up 210 penalty minutes in 41 games with AHL Chicago last season, while also spending six games with ECHL Alaska. The 22-year-old winger's toughness and willingness to drop the gloves may make him a fourth-line candidate for the Blues at some point down the road, but with Ryan Reaves filling that role just fine for the parent club, Beach remains blocked for the time being.
