Isles' Niederreiter Continues Hot Play

News: Nino Niederreiter is picking up in the Swiss league where he left off in the AHL, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: Nino had 28 goals and 50 points in 74 games for Bridgeport and also leads his Swiss team with four goals, yet the Islanders never called him up this season. The Isles can say anything they like, but it certainly appears he was punished for his comments about the organization last year. The question now is whether the team will shop him for an upgrade on defense or in goal during the off-season. Jonathan Bernier, anyone?

Devils' Matteau Released by QMJHL Blainville-Boisbrand

News: Stefan Matteau has been released by QMJHL Blainville-Boisbriand, the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: The former first-round (29th overall) selection was only 19 years old, but was released due to unacceptable behavior within the organization. Stefan Matteau has been benched multiple times for undisciplined play, but there was no improvement in the young prospect's behavior. Matteau appeared in 17 games with the Devils this season, scoring three points and recording six PIMs.
