| 5/26/2012 | Chris Bourque, LW, WAS |
Bruins Acquire Ray Bourque's SonNews: Chris Bourque was acquired by the Bruins in exchange for Zach Hamill on Saturday, the Globe and Mail's James Mirtle reports. Analysis: Chris Bourque lit up the AHL during the 2011-12 season with 93 points in 73 games. He should be ready for the NHL this year, but is not a guarantee to make the Bruins' roster. He doesn't have Zach Hamill's upside, but does have a better track record in the AHL. |
| 5/25/2012 | Jakub Culek, LW, OTT |
Sens Sign Culek To Entry-Level DealNews: Jakub Culek signed an entry-level contract with the Senators on Friday, the team's official site reports. Analysis: The 19-year-old, who was the team's third-round choice in the 2010 entry draft, put up 40 points (13G, 27A) in 55 Canadian Hockey League games this year. That brought Jakub Culek to a total of 109 points (33G, 76A) in his 173 career games at that level, and he'll look to make a successful transition to the AHL. |
| 5/23/2012 | Ryan Shannon, RW, ANA |
Bolts' Shannon Signs With Swiss TeamNews: Ryan Shannon (rotator cuff) has signed a three-year deal to play for the ZSC Lions in the Swiss league next season, reports the Tampa Bay Times. Analysis: He had a disappointing year with the Bolts, scoring just four goals, adding eight assists and finishing minus-11 in 45 games. The deal with the Lions affords him an opportunity to continue to play pro hockey; he won't be back in the NHL. |
| 5/19/2012 | Petr Straka, RW, CLB |
Straka Goes Unsigned By Blue JacketsNews: The Blue Jackets have elected not to sign Petr Straka to an entry-level contract, and he'll return to the draft-eligible pool. Analysis: This is a very odd decision by a team that should be beating every bush to add talent to its depth chart. The 2010 second-round pick has seen his development stall the last couple of seasons in part due to injuries, but Petr Straka still managed a point-a-game pace in this year's QMJHL playoffs and would appear to have some upside yet. |
| 5/16/2012 | Jerry D'Amigo, RW, TOR |
Leafs' D'Amigo Sniping In AHL PlayoffsNews: Jerry D'Amigo is tied for the AHL postseason goal-scoring race with six goals. Analysis: He has nine points total to lead the Marlies and is a playoff-leading plus-10. He's skating with Nazim Kadri and Matt Frattin, and the trio sit one-two-three in team scoring. He could battle for a lower-line role with the Leafs next year. |
| 5/15/2012 | Nikita Filatov, LW, OTT |
Sens' Filatov Signs Two-Year Deal With KHL TeamNews: Nikita Filatov has signed a two-year deal with Salavat Yulaev of the KHL reports the Ottawa Sun. Analysis: It certainly appears that the Nikita Filatov experiment is over for good in Ottawa. The Senators will need to make a qualifying offer to Filatov, who will become a restricted free agent come July 1st, or he'll become unrestricted. Ottawa's management is debating whether or not to do so, but odds are good that GM Bryan Murray will take a pass and end the team's association with the winger. His fantasy value next year is next to nil. |
| 5/11/2012 | Kirill Kabanov, LW, NYI |
Isles' Kabonov Could Be Headed To KHLNews: Kirill Kabanov could be headed to the KHL, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple. Analysis: This not confirmed and Isles GM Garth Snow admitted that it's "news to me". Kirill Kabanov has never played in the NHL but the Isles do have high hopes, he is under contract with the team for three more seasons. |
| 5/3/2012 | Kirill Petrov, RW, NYI |
Petrov Will Not Join The IslandersNews: Kirill Petrov will not join the Islanders for the 2012-13 season, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple. Analysis: Kirill Petrov signed a one-year deal with the AK Bars of the KHL on Thursday. Seems he won't be playing in North America anytime soon. Petrov is staying for two reasons. One, he can make more money in the KHL and two, his mother is very ill and he wants to be close to her. The good news for the Isles is that Petrov had a multi-year offer on the table and turned that down so one could might think that he still has plans to play in North America eventually. |
| 5/1/2012 | Sean Collins, LW, WAS |
Capitals Recall CollinsNews: Sean Collins was recalled Tuesday, the Capitals' official Twitter page reports. Analysis: Sean Collins only put up 10 points (2G, 8A) in 65 games for AHL Hershey this season, but he should provide some defensive depth for the Capitals in their series against the Rangers. |
| 4/12/2012 | Emerson Etem, RW, ANA |
Anaheim Sends Etem To AHLNews: Emerson Etem was assigned to the AHL on Thursday, AnaheimDucks.com reports. Analysis: It's only the WHL, but Emerson Etem's 107 points (61 goals) from this year are certainly encouraging. |
| 4/9/2012 | Jochen Hecht, LW, BUF |
Hecht Wants To Return To Sabres Next SeasonNews: Jochen Hecht (concussion), who is an unrestricted free agent, said that he wants to stay in Buffalo, according to Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News. Analysis: It seems highly unlikely that the German forward will be offered a contract by the Sabres, who have far more glaring needs that they need to address in the summer. |
