He is starting to score again after having some struggles in January, so it appears safe to keep Kessel active in Fantasy. (Updated 02/08/2010).

| Phil Kessel made quite a name for himself in the Boston area. Aside from the fact he was taken fifth overall in the 2006 NHL draft, Kessel won over a lot of folks after overcoming cancer and resuming his pro career with great success. Kessel, who often drew praise as the U.S.'s version of Sidney Crosby, didn't live up to the high expectations until the 2008-09 season. He posted career highs in goals (36), assists (24), points (60) and plus-minus (23). He came out of the gate on fire with 23 goals and 39 points in his first 37 games. He slowed down after he dealt with a case of mono, but we finally saw the potential everyone always talked about. Kessel was anticipating returning to Boston in 2009-10, unfortunately, the restricted free agent could not hammer out a deal. He was eventually dealt to Toronto in mid-September for a few draft picks. Kessel isn't expected to begin his Toronto career until November at the earliest as he continues to recover from offseason shoulder surgery. While the Maple Leafs might not be top contenders like Boston, Kessel still has high-end Fantasy potential when healthy. He is just an injury-risk Fantasy option Draft Day. (Updated 9/18/09) |
