Fantasy Analysis
Considering that he doesn't shoot often (just 14 shots on goal this season), Jonathan Ericsson's value will come mostly in the former of helpers. With a plus-5 rating this season, Ericsson is contributing in plenty of formats. (Updated 3/7/13).
05/18/2013 15:48 Red Wings bounce back, even series with Blackhawks
Damien Brunner and Brendan Smith scored in the second period and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 Saturday in Game 2 to even their Western Conference semifinal series.
05/13/2013 01:01 Red Wings oust Ducks in Game 7, advance to Western semis
Henrik Zetterberg and Valtteri Filppula each had a goal and an assist, and the Detroit Red Wings finished off the Anaheim Ducks with a 3-2 victory in Game 7 on Sunday night.
As offensive blueliners go, Jonathan Ericsson doesn't appear to have much forthcoming in terms of growth. Perhaps he'll earn the nod alongside Niklas Kronwall as the second member of the Wings' top defensive pairing, but the 28-year-old has never exceeded 15 points in a season and anything beyond 20-25 seems like a long shot even with a larger role. Further, he'll have a stable of offensive-minded competition for time with the man advantage, which also limits his offensive ceiling. Rolling the dice on a Detroit blueliner could pay dividends, but Ericsson is hardly the best option for that gamble. (Updated 8/14/12)
